For those of us who were out of the Loop
why did TMO never got a toe hold on red?
When Nnws broke they would all Transfer from blue, rumor had it they would be the hardest poopsockers Norrath had ever seen
Rule lawyering, unburn-outable, unboreable Pixel Zombies, yet game mechanic geniuses who would establish themselves over the Long run
how / why did they fail ?

My understanding is the top guild had over x2 there number (im guessing recruitment was near impossible on such a barren server) and freaked out at the possibly of competition.
On Velious launch, they had one group preventing TMO from entering Velious in another raiding.
Gratz guys you won the prize,
your server is shit.
But I never played there so I don't know for sure.

Apparently, demanding that 70+ people drop everything and throw away years of work to pacify your tantrum doesn't end well.
Who'd have thought?

They merged in a whole guild of people who hated / were hated by Empire. Strangely enough, Empire didn't take that well and TMO upgraded themselves from amusing novelty to full on KoS with that merger. Wasn't around after that happened to see exactly how it played out, but we all know how the story ends.

Ahh, I forgot that part. I think they would have found a reason to grief TMO anyway, though. Has there ever been a number two guild that hasn't been locked down by the top guild?

People keep bringing that up like it makes any difference. TMO failed because Quickfingers was a troll... right.

I think it didn't help. It gave people more of a reason to kill them and shake their severed heads in glory to prove Tiggles wrong. They might have done so anyway, but with more shame and less righteous zeal.

It's true that trash talk works a lot better on blue to demoralize your opponent than red. EQ players are generally somewhat immune to shit talk after their first year or so playing on a PvP server.
But on blue I think people forget that Tiggles bragging on the forums worked in his favor more often than against him.

If his goal was becoming one of the most loathsome and despised players on the server then I agree with you it worked in his favor.

you're missing a lot, like before that merger tiggles & pals joined red and joined holocaust, were handed out 100's of thousands of plat in droppables to get them started on the server and then they immediately turned and started shit talking holo/emp before a single one of their players who wasn't already on red months before the switch hit level 60.
you like to post about tmo red a lot but i never saw you around. #1 attendance player in tmo red here and i don't even know who ur toon was if you even played.

They were the longest lasting monopoly guild by far -- so you'll forgive me for taking this "it hurts the guild" thesis with a grain of salt. Especially since the founders of this RnF gag BS have a habit of breaking up every couple of months.
If your guild is sucking it up in VP -- people might not like tiggles pointing it out and bragging...but they also take the cue and assume the guild is dead and no one can beat TMO.
If propaganda didn't work every government and corporation in the world wouldn't utilize it.

Of course I like to post about my guild. Now I never was in TMO red because I didn't want to play with GG scum, but you're missing my point. You, mister high raid attendance, and the rest of your guild joining TMO is what killed them. Despite your obviously important contributions.

I was never in good guys or azrael, I ran a leveling guild on red before TMO came over. I also joined well before the merge, I was the first non-blue player to join TMO.

Youre bitter about the whole thing and I can understand that. I'm a little bit upset about it too. In this case, I think an outsider's perspective might have a better view of things.

I'm not bitter about anything. I loved playing with TMO and I have no hard feels against anyone. I'm just telling it like it is, from the perspective of someone who was actually there start to finish. I used to chat with DD on the daily about these kinds of things and there were a lot of non-elfland factors in play that I'm not going to post about as to why he quit and why TMO red died. To keep it vague he had bigger things than an elf game going on in his life.
Also the whole guild shouldn't have relied on 1 player logging on consistently to function in the first place, which brings me back to my point from the other thread which is, all of the TMO blue officers and players abandoning the guild at Velious release is what initiated the slow death of TMO red.

[Sun Jul 05 15:19:26 2015] GUILD MOTD: Gongshow - No raids until Tuesday morning with the exception of a Saturday night Trakanon (if you can't make it, don't sweat). Enjoy the holiday weekend. Work on 60 and VP keys if you still need it; make final preparations for Velious. *Important: Start smashing TMO. They chose to take in all of the servers scum - they are effectively Azrael, Friends, Good Guys, etc. now. Put their dicks in the dirt.*

Again, leadership failing.
I was telling them from the start, to take the good guys disband with strong consideration and not to let just anybody apply. I told them not to ignore players' history and deep rooted grudges on red and I was largely ignored. Their perspective being, "we're only letting these players apply, they aren't members until they prove themselves." which would make sense on blue but as the MOTD you posted shows, empire didn't know/care/give a shit about the difference between an app and member. They saw scumbags with TMO tags and decided to shit on us at any opportunity, rightfully so.
I spied on empire's guild chat through the entire TMO era and informed them of pretty much every single raid wipe attempt Empire ever threw at us, and rather than taking the advantage I had given them to stand their ground and camp empire on zone-ins using a surprise advantage, they would always make the call to camp out resulting in our raid being logout-camped for hours. I can't even count how many good players quit the guild or server because of the camp-outs. Just bad calls in general, I don't blame them because they were just as bad at PvP as us red players are at PvE but eh they really should have listened to the people who knew what they were talking about a little more.

TMO Blue had no leadership. The vast majority of the recruitment pool left on red wasn't the type of players who wanted to fight through adversity.
As much as red players like to shit talk about how wild and fun Red was, the truth of the matter is they were far more likely to join a guild that was guaranteed to get loot even if they had to wait in a very long line.
Red is a myth when Empire was raiding with 50% of the server population (these aren't exaggerated numbers either) Colgate never wanted competition.

TMO could never handle proper competition.
I assume they likely quit when the going got rough.

definite agree, 95% of red players will choose the easy pixels every time and the 5% left is, well, 5 people
