If you have a group of all magicians, what pet should they use? Does the strategy change with 2, 3.. 6 Magicians?

1 earth pet, the rest water with taunts turned off, on the assumption its one mob per pull. $profit.

At least 1 of each. You don't want to discriminate.

Depends what level. Water pets are pretty solid leveling up

Pre 50... I doubt we make it past 50.

Fire Pets. Make sure their DS is up and meditate while the enemies kill themselves. Summon replacements as needed.
This is very general,. you didn't specify a level range or accurate number of mages.
Do they have focus items for any element?
earth pet is a nice tank but you could do better with all water pets,. but you could do even better with all fire pets,. This is all based around all the mages having pets up and fighting a single target.
Air pet if you're fighting caster mobs.
6 earth pets low dps, high health.
6 water pets good dps, no mana free DS, medium health.
6 Fire pets good dps, free ds, low health.
I'd take my chances with 6 fire pets DDing, DSing and being replaced by mages one after another.
Any adds would get hit by the DS also,. you could literally walk through any dungeon at your level with an army of 6 fire pets. Then med break somewhere.
Just make sure none of the mages themselves use a DD or heal spell. ;)
PS. I use to be super anti fire pet. I used earth pet fully buffed for the longest time before I made the switch.

The fastest exp my magician ever got was in a 3 fire pet group at level 39. The regen is so awesome we just turned off taunt of our pet was low health and turned back on when ready to tank again.

There is no need to have a designated tank pet. It won't taunt effectively and it's really inefficient to try and keep a mage pet up. Instead, just pick one type of pet for everyone to use and then have resummon theirs as they die.
Good luck, I always thought an all magician group would be fun as hell.

1. With 6 pets the DS damage will be small compared to the melee damage.
2. Fire pets are lower level and on average hit a bit less hard than water pets. They also don't get certain skills until after the other pets (dual wield for sure, double attack on offhand almost for sure)
I did fire pet duo for many levels on mages I just think with 6 pets the DS isn't worth as much. IMO you'd rather have survivability for breaking rooms with no CC / heading
