I have a policy in this game and other MMOs where I refuse almost all offerings from higher level players. I feel it is a way of cheating, but NOT to say it isn't okay for others to do I don't judge, but for me I feel is tarnishes the game experience for me. That being said I do accept help in the form of people buying my wares for a good price in EC and doing trades with me or crafting me things for a decent price. I don't know, maybe it is just my OCD or something.

Lol helping new players and giving and receiving gear is part of the fun.

yeah I realize it isn't considered bad or anything and I am all for it for other players and will even help out lower level players, but as for me, I simply can't accept handouts unless it is something minor but even then I want to earn it or pay for it. Just a weird quirk of mine...

Just be sure and take your meds before you go in game, so you can actually enjoy it

leveling on this server 1-60 from scratch is as close to classic eq as one can get. I think your policy is actually pretty smart. Enjoy the ride!

If you leveled on red you'd probably find everyone you level with was next to naked.

I think gear is cheating, and using spells. I leveled 1-60 as a necro with no gear and without casting spells. Hand to hand only.

When im bored or usually blasted drunk, I like to go into Field of Bone and power level noobies from lvl 1 to 15 by pulling the zone, they seem to be thankful

My son feels the same as you. I got him started on p99 and he wanted me using a rusty sword and not take the fs weapon the guy offered. Im going to miss playing with him but rusty's sux.

Yup, weird. I've given tons and tons of starting gear away in gfay, they always accept. Whenever I drop SOW's in the newbie area, I never see anyone ever click them off. They'll even go get things like batwing or elf parts for you if you offer some more starting armor as a reward. Saw that all on early live as well. More of an EQ and UO thing I think though. Didn't see much of that at all in newer games.

What if you encountered the Nightwolf? Your nemesis? Would you share gear with him?

I'm getting better.. Accepted some gifts, nothing extravagant but helpful, plus I am a sk so I am gear dependent

We would endlessly chase each other (https://youtu.be/iBL13LkR618) through the forests and plains of Norrath.

Not too bad, but you do need some AC. Otherwise better off than the other tanks.

Sometimes I sit in EC and auction off low level items, then when someone comes up to purchase one that clearly is a new player I will then give them the item for free or throw in a few other items they can use. I feel like since they were originally willing to pay for the item that they are more deserving of handouts. When random people send tells or do an /ooc asking for free stuff that just annoys the hell out of me.

For a moment I was thinking you might be a barb I ran into in Everfrost the other day. Didn't want buffs then got all passive aggressive lol.

You aren't alone, I know a few people who enjoy this playstyle. I have one friend who doesn't like buffs and only wears gear that is obtainable by their level and makes RP sense. I had another friend (Had to escape from that friendship) that didn't like buffs as well. He would go into an indignant rage on voice every time some "a-hole" high level came and buffed him. HAHA.

I love buffs and gear. Everyone feel free to come PL me and give me gear. Level 54 sucks.

I feel the same way, I don't refuse an offering but when I'm trying to level a non-twink character, having some lvl 60 hand me 1k kills my experience....problem is almost all gear you wouldn't be caught dead wearing at 60 is dirt cheap and not worth taking the time to sell

I remember a guy bragging on live that if he looted something that he wanted another of his toons of his to have, he would make that toon pay market value in return. This justified or satisfied his anti-twink stance.

It took years before the right term came in to the English language to describe this - Autism. (not saying you are - Just brought back memories).

I'm the same. I started on red and a druid gave me some stuff but it wasn't super OP items, but they definitely were an upgrade, but this was after I had been grinding for days in The Feerrott and wasn't making any exp gains. Was stuck at like lvl 5. If I went anywhere else I just couldn't kill them. (Later learned there were other options like in innothule swamp near a guk or something) I didn't want to be ported somewhere and given a bunch of awesome high level gear and skipping through levels like a breeze. So I asked the druid what would a person who was starting where I was without any help go? And he answered that and other questions. I just wanted to understand the real experience a player has when the server starts and there is no one to give hand me downs. He showed me lower guk or maybe it was upper, I have no idea. So confusing. We floated through some zones with levitate, was kinda funny following a midget through a swamp. Then he said the place I ought to go next for leveling was Crushbone. He ported me there, showed me some stuff and even told me about the shiny brass shield from the orc trainer. Then bound me when I was okay with it. So I spent a few days in there grinding and would meet people and form groups. I loved forming groups cause I had low dps and a long recovery time between fights(im shaman). I did group with this Fungal Tunic monk named Civec and that made it very easy.
Also, I got the shield because I persistently farmed that Orc Trainer. It has a neat glow around my character.
