Same here. Was working before the patch, after patch files, getting this error. Can't log into ANY server, much less the P99 ones. So it's not like it's just the P99 server isn't ready, something is borked on the client files.

EDIT: Rebooting didn't help. But rebooted again, and now it's working. WTF?

I was one of the hundred or so people in. Worked fine for me. No one was on so I decided to do a drop transfer to a mule. Success, no issues. I log back in to my main and start running from freeport to commons and suddenly I froze. In task manager it showed the game as not responding. I logged back in, successfully, appeared in EC for half a second and then it just froze again. Now I cannot get in the game at all, and am getting the same message as you guys at the server list. I'm just thankful that it didn't bug out when I was doing the transfer, but I'm just here confirming that this is an issue even for people who did make it in initially then logged out and back in.

Tl;dr: Was able to log in, then game froze every time I got in game, now I cannot get in game and I get the unknown error message.

I'm also getting this problem with "unkown error occured while trying to join the server". Anyone know what this is about? I've tried restarting my computer twice, shutting it down also. I even went as far as to re-install the patch. Nothing works. I posted this same thing on the patch notes thread but I don't think the mods gave it the OK. Whats going onnnnn? :(

Opening Command Prompt then doing ipconfig /flushdns worked for me. Restarted after good luck :).

I seem to be able to log in on my laptop, but my Desktop doesn't let me get past the server screen without giving me the unknown error message box.

Bout to update my GF's laptop later on, I hope she has better luck than I did.

Edit: Managed to get to the character select screen on my desk top, So glad i dont have to play on my laptop :P

ok I managed to log. I downloaded again and copied the files. Make sure you also copy old files from "uifiles" as well but don't overwrite. Just copy the old files back into the uifiles. Sorry if it sounds confusing.

just happened to me, game crashed while zoning into ak'anon on green server and i restarted the game and got the error message, i logged back out and tried to log onto blue and got the same error, worked perfect before now i can't play at all

I'm getting this message now (just past midnight west coast time on 10/31/19) when I try to log in. Earlier posts don't show how to resolve this, but clearly people have been playing. Server pop is dropping fast. I'm guessing others having the same problem this AM?

I followed the instructions under the technical discussion sticky for #10 -- [[ "An unknown error occurred while trying to join the server" I get this error, what do i do?

This issue can happen for a number of reasons, usually it can be fixed by simply attempting to log in a few times. However, if you find that you still can't log in,
try changing your eqhost.txt file from:

[LoginServer]
Host=login.eqemulator.net:5998

to

[LoginServer]
Host=leqemulator.net:5998]]

-- When I changed the eqhost to "leqemulator.net:5998" i was not able to login at all to the server selection screen. Only after reverting to "Login.eq.." was I, at the very most, able to log to the server selection screen but no further.

I'm getting this error on only one account. That account is able to log into breeg or red but not blue. on two different computers, on those two computers different accounts are able to log into blue and play just fine, have been unable to resolve this issue

jUsing a VPN made this stop for me then eventually after about 3 or 4 days i was able to log in regularly again, but i'm not exactly sure what fixed it, i had applied for an IP exemption in that time as well. Good luck

Just started getting the error today, seems completely random I don't think there were any updates...

Edit Update: Server list was much different with many locked, found Green in the list and chose play everquest option, server logged in successfully. Still weird.

I was playing around 2:30am CST and the server list was weird with many locked servers, but now I cannot find any servers listed. Should I re-install?

Confirming this under Linux as well. Seems like a server problem, but unsure if it's at the p99 or eqemu level. When resolved, can someone explain the underlying issue? "Unknown error" is not very descriptive.

This occured to me around roughly 6:30AM EST (this morning) during Manastone camp. I was #2 on list with 28 hours in. It prevented me from logging back in for 20-30 mins just long enough to lose my place on list.

This issue seems to be ISP specific. I receive this error on my Comcast and my Optimum connections, but never on Verizon. I was able to log in using my Verizon ISP at the same time the other two were giving me issues.

I'm fairly sure this has to do with DNS propagation. If you're accessing a nameserver that hasn't been updated then you're going to see this. Not sure what caused the initial issue though - like what kind of server-side update to the game or is someone messing with the DNS settings, no idea.

hi just did what was suggested before and it worked:
open cmd and enter
ipconfig /flushdns

launched the game and it was fine.

I just changed from static DNS of 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 to get DNS dynamically from my ISP. It fixed my problem and am logged in.
