Im looking for experienced people who would know if it's better to have a hander or 1hander and shield? I'm lvl 7 atm, mostly solo.

If you can afford it, a cheap 2-hander like Poison Wind Censor is best for the first 30 or 40 levels.

If you plan on meleeing and not rooting, the best overall weapon ratio will be the best for you.
You should be able to find that cheap Runewood Great Staff 22/40 2h Blunt weapon for around 50 to 100 plat.
A wraithbone hammer for 50p or something similar is also probably a good investment until the dmg cap increases at level 20. Or use the rest of your money to fill out your slots with banded armor and the AC/HP wedding rings.

How much would a full set of banded armor cost me? Roughly
The rule of thumb is 1pp per point of AC -- you're looking at 90pp for a full set (http://wiki.project1999.com/Large_Banded_Armor_Set).

Ac/hp rings will be a big investment for a level 7.
I would suggest banded armor and a charred guardian shield.
That will give you the most bang for your buck at your current level/budget. I had similar gear until around level 30. I could group, duo or root rot multiple mobs at a time with that set up.

Charred Guardian Shield isn't a good investment at low levels since wisdom really does nothing for you until later on. You are better of spending that money on an AC/HP ring instead.

It's not just about the wisdom though. Depending on his race, the shield is also a light source. It also would net him more ac than a ring and he wouldn't replace it for a long while. Not to mention wisdom helps with skillups as well. It might not be the min-max choice of the year award winner, but it's still a solid choice.

A smoldering brand is good for any class up to lvl 20 - speed is to your benefit before the damage bonus kicks in.
Also - it is a very re-sellable item!

I have been using sword and spear so far, but I think a 2 hander would be ideal for the Shaman.

My Shaman is level 29 and I still use the Charred Guardian Shield if I'm wielding a 1 Handed weapon.
It's useful until you can get a Spitestone Shield or a Book of Obulus.

Are you willing to form a dark pact in exchange for wealth?

The Spitestone Shield is barbarian only. It's not bad, if you rolled one.
The Book of Obulus is nice, although it has no AC. It's not bad, if you're not getting hit.
