View Full Version : New to 1999 - Want to do a Ogre Shaman / Iksar Monk duo
Hi,
Me and my brother just found out about project 1999 after being off EQ since well Velious. We've decided to do a classic shaman / monk duo but the problem is he wants to be an Iksar Monk and I want to be an Ogre Shaman. The difficulty is we'd like to play together from level 1 ideally which is difficult given our factions and starting zones.
The solution I came up with is that I would get my Ogre monk to Cabalis somehow and then he'd handle all the vendor stuff until some level later when we'd move on and start trying to fix our faction in the good cities.
So my question is, is it even possible to get a level 1 Ogre to Cabalis and if yes what's the best route to take?

You're honestly better off doing it the other way. Have him haul his butt over to Antonica and you take care of the vendoring. The leveling will be better and you need access to Oggok for your spells.
Good luck!

well just put everything in the bank and there is no real death penalty but you may die a couple times trying to get there, id recommend trying to enlist a druids help from these forums...once you are in field of bone you can bind in the arena outside of the kaesora zoneline and just let your brother handle the vendor stuff

iksar shaman guild will have your spells and the monk trainer is in cabilis, you are going to be pretty short on gear for awhile probably

Or have his brother buy the shaman spells in cabalis if he really wants to be an ogre ;)

probably better off going iksar shaman.. Without Druid ports that run would be nasty. But it's possible. Either way welcome to the server guys!

Like it was mentioned, you probably both should roll iksar. The racial traits benefits
both of your classes greatly and solves your distance issue before it even becomes an issue :D

Got a gnome to cab at 5, best advice would be run along waterfronts in oasis, OT and warsliks, except for that part in the middle of warsliks on the waterfront where there's an iksar npc on a little island
Even with the help of a higher level it would be a difficult trip, but it can be done
And ofc make sure to move with caution just inside fob things can be rough at 1 in the area near ww zl
*edit* I took ec>nro>Sro>timorous>OT>warsliks>fob
You won't be able to run a lvl1 char into OT due to the zoning restrictions. You would either have to lvl1 the character to lvl5.

DreadLands port...(need invis/sow and recomend levi, HP buff)
Go thru the tunnel, left wall to Front Mountains. Watch for see invis spiders and a few giants/doggies)
Right wall in FM to Lake of Ill Omen, this is pretty safe.
Left wall to Cabilis, watch out for pretty spread out mobs.
You can ask someone for an invis to get thru Cab I suppose, hmm.
You can got FM-OT-WW-FoB otherwise.
What is the level restriction for OT? It's pretty easy to solo to 5 right outside Ogguk.

Druids occasionally stop by Field of Bone, but in the time it takes to sit around waiting for that, you'd already be level 10.
Thanks for all the advice everyone. Well the end result is my brother and I ended up leveling to 5 separately and then running to gfaydark for reasons neither of us could really understand. Nostalgia mostly. We died about 20 times trying to get on the boat but we made it it the end. Hopefully by the time we're done by crushbone we won't be so KoS on Faydwer.

I should be on this evening, and have a druid bound in FOB..happy to help. You do not have to be 5 to zone into FOB..how else would newbie iksars be able to go in and out of cab? If the restriction is you must go through cab then we will do that too..send me a PM and lets set it up, we can get you and your bro together..

I'd take this guy up on his shuttle offer ^^ Kunark is a and amazing place to level and ogre shaman are in all honesty much more reaching than iksar shaman. Neither compares well with a barb though of course.

I agree melon, FOB/Kurns to 20 and then giants in WW to about 30 is my favorite leveling experience in any game I have ever played...
Shamans don't get meditate until level 8. Stranding yourself away from a trainer before getting that would be pretty horrible. Consider getting to level 8 before heading over to Kunark.

This advice makes a lot of sense....Also someone should donate a field of bone gate potion to this guy when he gets level 8.

If you're going to be duoing as opposed to soloing, I think going iksar is a better choice. Being nubs and on opposing factions will be tuff

Ogre in FOB will be fine with a brother to merchant for him...the level 8 advice is SOUND
Hey again guys. Sorry it's a bit slow to reply I seem to need to make a few posts before they can be auto-approved.
I made a post earlier that hasn't been approved yet but will likely pop up soon and this post is an update to that post. If this post shows up first well that's probably fine. Also I'm not yet allowed to send PMs yet.
Anyways, so as I said in the other post that may or may not be posted yet my brother decided to go human for nostalgia reasons but he really is a bit of a min/maxer at heart and after playing human for a few levels he decided that in fact he really did want an Iksar monk and has rerolled. My shaman has gotten a few levels though he isn't level 8 yet. I do like the advice on waiting til level 8 though if I do decide to go to Kunark which may yet happen. After making it to Gfaydark without help I'm sure I can manage to get to the FoB without imposing on anyone's generosity but if I do die like 20 or 40 times I might have to take up you up on your offer Gildor.
Anyways thanks again for all the advice.
