For some reason whenever I log into my High Elf paladin, my game crashes. It doesn't crash when I log into other characters. How do I fix this?

Roll a shadow knight! :D
(could be a corrupted zone file maybe? which zone is he in?)

Prolly zone file. The fastest way is the log in another toon before you go to bed and petition for the toon to be summoned outside that zone. Last ditch would be to remove the zone file and put it back in from however you installed it.

Yeah you might want to try a reinstall, re-patch or repair. I've had some problems in the past exiting 3rd gate, but not as bad as you have described here with whatever zone you are talking about which no one else is reporting on.
If you have general clunkyness with the game, maybe try running WinEQ 2 lite edition. It really does solve a lot of stability problems.

Related question: I crash when I zone into Gfay or BB - probably 75% of the time and it's usually at that specific zone line. I am able to log back in no problem but it's annoying. Worth it to remove those files and reinstall?

It is fixed now! I just logged in after playing my dark elf for a while, and it is fixed.
