In the same zone/area and within level range?
Also, if anybody in FoB wants to afk in my group I can PL you. I just want the bonus.

If they are afk you don't want the bonus. You will get less exp than killing mobs yourself.
For a group of 2 to get more than a solo person you need to be able to kill something like 1.5x the amount of mobs as you would solo.
There is a 50% exp bonus across the board

What? How is it a bonus if you aren't getting more exp? I was told there's additional bonus for each person in group. This was supported by the fact I was in a group yesterday and got like 3 blues for a white mob where I was getting substantially less than that soloing the same mob.
I'm talking about red here.
Edit: From the is your body ready thread:
Project 1999 Red now has a 50% experience bonus from 1-60. In addition to this, for each group member, a 40% experience modifier will be added to all XP the group obtains. This means that with a full 6 member group, you will be provided a 290% bonus to all experience gained, 1-60.
This will provide a faster leveling experience than on blue, but still allow people to take the time to learn their character, meet new friends, and encounter new enemies on their way to level 60. Have your friends roll on red with you, and enjoy the journey!
So, if someone was in my group, even if AFK, I'd be getting nearly double xp (compared to blue) by having a single person in group.

On red, you receive a 50% flat bonus for joining the server, and a 40% bonus for each additional member in the party. These bonuses add to the total xp the party gains for a total of 290% xp. Lets say the mob gives 100xp base. Solo, you would receive 150 xp. Your group of 6 would receive 290 xp, but you only get 1/6th of that. 48 xp.
As a duo, you would receive 190% xp then split between you and your partner for 95% of the base for each of you. HippoNipple is correct in saying that you would need to kill at least 1.5x the mobs to receive more xp.
Racial penalties apply to yourself, not your group and take from your final cut. Higher level members in the group will receive a larger cut than lower level members. Its based on total xp gained so if I am 45 at 95% i get more xp than you at 45 at 1%. This is so that the characters level at a similar rate while grouped even though the higher level requires more xp to ding
If adding another member to your party does not make you kill more mobs in the same amount of time, then you will not get more xp. You will get less.
Hope this helps.

^Thanks for the clarification. So I was fooling myself when I thought I was getting more exp per kill.

The two mobs, while the same level, could have just given different amounts of xp. A case of confirmation bias, maybe

I believe for a duo it would be 50% + 40% + 40%, which equals 130% additional exp; also known as exp per mob x 2.3. But then it gets split between the two of you, so each of you would get 115% exp, or an extra 15% compared to Blue. Soloing on Red, you would get an extra 50%. So yes, unless you have a vested interest in your groupmate's advancement, an AFK groupmate does not add to your exp.

this is correct I neglected to include the 40% for you being in the group

Way to much math for a server that you literally level up for killing a blue ungrouped. This math sounds blueish, that server just a click away and I hear it's way more popular.

You get more overall exp with grouping. And the 6th person is entirely free.
Basically get a little more than half normal exp in a duo. Duos are good when they make you amazing.

Exp in a full group on red absolutely flies and I think the guesses at the math have been a bit under what it works out to.
I think exp works like this.
100 xp flat on red becomes 150xp every time.
On blue, a 100 xp mob killed by a group of six doesn't give 16.67 xp per mob, because the group bonus increases it. Something like 100/6 + 4.3 xp (some amount of group bonus xp). This mechanic existed on live and was huge on EQMac since you could engage it while out of range: 4 people soloing in a zone would all group up and spread out and get bonus xp.
On red, this xp bonus is increased by 40% per group member and I believe the formula becomes:
100xp mob increased to 150 xp then killed by 6 people = 25 xp plus the group bonus multiplied by 290% for a full group.
Blue: 100xp mob killed by group of six = 100xp/6 + theoretical bonus of 4.3xp = 21 xp per group member.
Red: Same 100xp mob killed by group of six = 150xp/6 + theoretical bonus of 4.3xp x 290% group bonus = 37.5 xp per mob.
When I leveled 2 years ago, we would have multiple group members go afk from time to time and it was better (so we thought) to keep them in the group instead of them camping out for extended (30+ minute) periods.
