Played here for over a year and I've never seen a GM event. I don't think they exist.

Live had GMs who were employees of Verant/SOE that were specifically hired and paid to run events.

Here we have volunteers that have to spend all of their free time to the tune of 20-60 hours a week answering petitions, Skype conferences, and phone calls about botched MQs and which monk caused Tormax to turn around for 10 milliseconds after he or she got FTE.

We had one on red last year at Halloween. Think blue had one too, but with lines and stuff.

They don't have the staff necessary. The closest we can get right now is player-run events with staff support.

GM events take a lot of time and effort to set up, with both GMs/Guides and developers contributing. It's all on a volunteer basis, too. Given the choice between GM events and fixing bugs, they're going to fix bugs.

No it was a good question. I might add that the last GM event we had, the blue community raged at "how shitty" it was. With the way people acted, I would not be interested in hosting another one anytime soon.

Next event should be to make he blue server into a red server for 12 hours. You know like that movie with no laws for 12 hours a year

You idiot, when it shakes on red it shakes on blue. Never had 4 in a month, and been 2 or 3 since velious released

definitely have had 4 in a month in kunark
I remember because it was the same day each week for that month, right after all the mobs were down, they were back up.

also its been 10 months since velious was released and we had 2 instead of the 1 that I remember? ok. still went from 2-4 a month to 1 or 2 in 10 months

Transfer OP to red, put all his plat on his body and announce to world where he is and whoever coins him first is the winner.

Sounds like a great event to me

On live there were different kinds of "GM events". You had actual zone changes, such as the Halloween events that made changes to NPCs, loot tables and other things. You had scheduled events in which large scale events happened on every server, usually prior or directly after releasing new content. The last type were events that were run by Guides off scripts from the Guide website, that could be run with 1 person, or up to six.

The first type I assume requires a large amount of programming changes in the server, which would delay changes and fixes the staff are already working on. The second would probably require full participation from the server staff and would black out any customer service needs for the duration of the event.

The last type is feasible to do with one person, but are done a much smaller scale. All it required was that the event be requested through the Server GM, a character be created on the Guides' accounts, loaded with rewards that were to be either looted, or handed out, and given the appropriate buffs (HP/DMG Table/DS/Regen ect.). Once in the Guide could use a command to flag the character as an NPC, find some players, and then act out the script. The issue being that this is not live, and the data for the commands and buffs required to make a character act like an NPC may not exist, or be appropriately tuned. Also new scripts would have to be created and approved, as I doubt anyone has an archive of the Guide website correct to the server timeline.

To elaborate on what Sorn said. Dept of Fun is the closes thing to GM events you can get. They are few far and between because again we are volunteering our time and don't have the powers of a GM. So we are limited to the type of games/events we can do.

We have hosted many events this year and last. The latest event we did was Easter Egg Hunt in Gfay.

The Biggest event ever would probably be our Bum Fights in EC.

The Hardest part we have is getting the numbers to do anything. The forums don't really get as much attention as IN game and if you are not popular in game than you event falls to the way side.

If you have any sort of ideas or something you would like to try and set up our doors are wide open and we are will to try and make your event come to light.

You can drop a PM to me or Sorn if you have any questions.

Also maybe they could get a new gm/guide just for making the server fun and just do GM events/mazes scavenger hunts, etc maybe it could be an item like a guise manastone etc for something really challenging, I am a casual player I dont raid I like to level have fun and explore. so I think this could be done by the server gms here :).

Fanbois can stop claiming they don't have the time, it's more burnout from current staff than anything.

Also Rogean has to approve literally everything that is done on p99 and either because he's busy or just burned out I've heard from aimpals/sources he just isn't around really anymore.

Gm events would be cool, but no doubt takes a lot of time to setup and handle. The last one with the teleport around and gather stuff up for halloween was catered specifically to porters. I was fairly slow and still managed to miss first place and the title by around 5 minutes(I stopped to med a few times just from constant OOM, with c2 wouldve been cake) only to get a Sarnak Earring of Station +5str no drop on my druid because they said they set the reward to common loot table or something accidentally.

Velious opening event, got a ceremonial iksar bp first turn in which was cool just because quick plat. But really I think what most people want from GM events is either a good time, some pvp, titles, guises, illusion potions(the gukta ones sirken gave out were always cool) etc. Plus the mistakes made early release, with rewards such as AoNs which tipped the balance and lead to some crazy stuff.

So don't hold your breathe OP

This might not sit well with green names in here, but we used to have more events under Uthgaard and Hobby.

Granted the population was smaller at the time and there was no red server.
