View Full Version : Uncommon Camps

Hey all. I'm looking to compile some less common camps across all levels. These camps will typically not be great for money, obviously, since that would make them common camps. I'm just looking for places off the beaten path, preferably not in dungeons.

Any ideas you guys have would be appreciated! And please include suggested level range.

what sort of money / items are you after ? Ballpark for level range?

This question is pretty broad - Sol A has a ton of named camps that can be held down with items ranging from 300 - 2k.

Not interested in money at all, to be honest. Just new places to exp. I'm currently level 24, but I think a lot of players might like some new ideas.

The sythrax in field of bone are pretty decent for a level 30. They do hit a bit hard for their level but it's easy solo pulls and no one is ever really around. Cool place to fight too, hidden in a cave in the ocean!

Aviaks (Arena zoneline) and/or the undead gnolls (by SK zoneline) in Lake Rathetear. Good for low-mid twenties, not sure about upper twenties.

Skulking brutes in warsliks woods were also great for a long time. It's gotten pretty well known now, though. :(

The cave with spiders in Thurg used to always be empty on live. Easy place to kill some stuff with guards near by!

I'm not sure how uncommon this camp is but I only learned of the rabid wolf quest (http://wiki.project1999.com/Rabid_Wolves) in Qeynos Hills playing p99.

It's a great non-twink newb camp (levels 4-10) as they are pretty easy to kill even if in cloth gear and you get a couple plat per turn in. The wiki might not be 100% accurate as only one of the spawns consistently popped in the /loc listed. The other wolf wandered the zone and was a pain to track down. So sit at one spawn, kill, set the timer, get more exp killing nearby wandering mobs for 7 minutes, kill wolf again. Turned in 8 bagfuls at a time. Got to 10 pretty quickly.

Troll guards in rathe were perma camped on bertox, no one ever there here. Lvl 35 sk and 35 shm with 6min ish respawn, solo pull easy. Solo camp probably.

No one ever at frog town in swamp next to cab, unsure how goods the exp is but it seems cool. Past doors in paw i don't think groups do often, that's another fun one.

The iksar bandits in Swamp at the TT zoneline are great. There's a group of 3 on the left that you can split if you're not an ench. Think I do 25-30 there.

fuck this is both uncommon and awesome, both the butler and the maid spawn in that area too.. an awesome destination in classic, an unfrequented one here :(

Also the tower in MM is not often camped, and a great camp location! like right up the stairs where the Avenging Catlif spawns.

Can pull that named, the earring named, the chestplate of dark flame named & maybe 1 or two crappy nameds near by too.. easy escape to zoneline if something goes wrong!

Anywhere in Swamp of No Hope

Man frog town is one of the coolest things in Kunark, and the made it worthless.. if there is any custon content added, i hope its turning that into a kos town, capable of building faction with to shop bank and other stuff for RP's

Najena. Lots of solo pull ogre guards and skeletons you can kill at 24. A few interesting names, but no crazy loot.

At 35 none of the skeletons will be blue anymore, leaving the guard captain as the only frequent blue con melee spawn.

Loot is spell research, whore's bane, a few minor magic items, fine steel, large ringmail and occasional large bronze from office groosh.

Will have to beat up the occasional green skeleton on the way in to your camp, but you can save those bone chips for ECmart.

Alluring Sirens in OOT.

Wisps on Erud's Crossing Isle, which also happens to be great money.

Never tried it, but it doesn't get any more uncommon than Kerra Isle. Easily the least used zone ever in EQ.

Was coming here to post this. I believe from 24-34 I was here on my monk. There is an undead camp southwest of frog town that has about 4 skeletons that spawn there, plus tons of blue wandering adds. You can see the adds from far away and can avoid them if you're careful. Was a great spot to exp for me. Started out hard but got easier and easier as I leveled.

If you're a good race FV isn't that far away for supplies, but if Iksar then cabilis is right there.

I wouldn't recommend frogtown unless you have a snare or root capability. When frogs ran they go through the hut walls in that town and agro everything.

what about the warrens? hah idk if anyoens doing those.. the sirens, thats a fucking cool one, nice.

Runneye is not ever camped. That weird mudman zone that king zorb right outside too, that was a fun classic camp.

there are a static 3 spawn of Treants in SK that were perma camped on live but not here.. fast respawn, decent plat, easy pulls

those two half elfs in between the ruins and the half elf town, they're sitting at the campfire in QHills.. 6 min respawn, 2 mobs.. decent solo static camp for doing homework & EQ at the same time.

I was super disappointed when I learned the Warrens weren't in yet when I joined P99.
Was an awesome lowbie druid charm spot.

Now I'm just sad there's an easy way to fix Paineel faction. I got chased naked by a 60 rogue through Paineel on red once and just as I was about to die, I rounded the corner and my GM pals in the SK guild triple harm touched that turd. Definitely my favorite kill while I was there.

Yeah, most of the time I am in warrens there's somewhere between 2 and 5 people in there. Not very populated.

It's not necessarily a solo area. I usually team up with at least one other person, esp at KFC or outside splitpaw. Charm / pet duos are good in EK. I just love EK in general. Huge density of mobs.

Cazic-Thule: the temple and or alligators. A druid or ranger with harmony or charisma-loaded enchanter should let you split the most important pulls, the ZEM makes it a worthwhile experience (hue) and the loot isn't all that bad. Good times. It might be a bit tricky to solo, but CT needs more love. Great zone.

EK had to grow on me... the first time I walked into NK/EK where stuff was blue to me it was a freakin scary place full of griffs and HG's everywhere. Now that I've spent a bit more time there and get the 'flow' of both zones I feel a lot more comfortable and really dig them both (including coming back in your 40's to take out some proper griffs)

Oh in case folks don't know (cause it usually ends up being a point of conversation/argument when you ask as a melee for a bind at gypsies) - Melee CAN be bound at the gypsy camp in NK. So if someone helpful tells you they can't it won't work, just ask them nicely to try anyways and they'll be surprised.

I can't remember level ranges off hand, but I recall doing both of these at some point during the 40s on my druid:

- Forest Giant camp in Firiona Vie (not far from drovalgs). There's three of them. I don't think I've ever seen them camped. They have a chance to drop any of the typical stuff for forest giants, so it's not absolutely terrible money either. Pretty laid back camp.

- There's a single ogre guard in Feerrott that paths near the bridge. Easy, predictable mob to root rot. Drops a shield every time.

A couple cool ones I've done when I got sick of the regular grinds:

Shaman - dwarf guards inside kaladim. There are a total of about 12 of them and if you're smart about where you park them you can pull 4 at a time and root rot without adding the others. Requires epic and can be nasty at times but zone out is right there. Total of 12pp/kill which is p nice. Additionally, if you bind at the Druid rings in BB you can gate, sell and kill the dwarven guards you encounter on the way back to kaladim before respawns. 50-54.

Enchanter - FV pirates. Charm the cartographer and fear kite everything in your path. Get a Druid for snares and you're settler from 33-42. Can honestly get like a level/1-2 hours once you get a rythym. Even faster if you can get a puller and another enchanter.

FV dog palace. Seriously, check this place out. I had no idea the drolvargs had a mountain hideout but they do. Crawling with enemies for chain pulls. Literally no loot but also no challenge as well.

TD spirocs also fear kiting. Get a proven and go to town.

Splitpaw - I love this zone for late 30s. In is down to the judges and park on the other side. It's a great place to pull to.

Cecily

I used to fear kite FV dogs in the middle of the field on my second rogue. Omg that was fun and made me so much more aware of my surroundings. That hideout was good too.

Found this in a thread from 2010:

Another option is Krystal Aspen and Ran Walker in surefall glade. It will ruin some qeynos faction but youll make pretty good plat. Krystal drops 2 fs swords each time, Ran drops a staff...total vendor value of 27pp per 6 min spawn. Also a level 5ish mob that drops a 4pp staff that you can kill each round for a bit of extra cash.

If you do the surefall camp, just hug the right wall after killing Ran walker, there is a merchant that you dont lose faction on that you can sell all the loot to easily...just dont wander over to the archery range or go near any buildings ><

Seems like a pretty legit camp for a low mid 30s.

mid 30s to mid 40ish undead ruins in DL in lost valley Close to rings/spires.

Got a neutral vendor in the middle with food, throwing stars and all kinds of useful stuff.

I Went there as a necro for undead fearkites and early charm training :) Can pop over to KC wall Groups if you get sick of soloing, or do other camps in the zone.
Close to ports so dont really need to be bound there for Quick CRs either. Only people i ever saw there was the occational monk farming the one spot for their robe turn in.

Also Spectre guards and one human roamer in qeynos catacombs. Same as the other Spectres throughout the World only not permasuperalwaysmegacamped. They came in pairs so good for charming and pathing lowbie rats make good lifetap-bait.

I've tried to check this camp out a couple times, but I feel like I must be missing something. I'm assuming the Undead ruins in DL in the lost valley is the Combine ruins/spire? I've only seen maybe 3-4 undead in total, with one near the "entrance" that varies wildly in levels. Am I missing them somehow? Sounds like a great charm spot but even checking all the pyramids I'm left wanting on skellys.

Both of these are probably not implemented here for good reasons:

Vorshar the Despised. Killed him a couple times a day for a year or something. Was originally a 2 hour spawn until word got out. Had no idea how deep his table was as you would see something new every couple kills. Quit early OoW and he was still coughing up GM items.

Instant spawn guard in the Freeport Pit. The ultimate low effort exp spot. Kill him as fast or slow as you like. Do it solo, duo, trio, with 6 dudes - fuck it doesn't matter - you barely even have to leave EC.

Dalnir or "The Crypt of Dalnir" looks like an interesting zone to level in...only been there once in 16 years lol. I would say level 29 or 30 solo...a group of high 20s or maybe low 30s would do well probably

After that maybe check out the Mines of Nurga...Guessing mid to high 30s

Kaesora probably mid 30s as well

Crystal Caverns mid 30s to low 40s looks cool ...same with the ry'gor fort in eastern wastes ...people used to level there all the time on live to get that armor to sell...never see the stuff on project 1999

Tower of Frozen shadows!!

I feel like this is the beaten path ... oasis -> guk/karanas -> high keep / mistmoore / overthere -> city of mist (formerly solb/lguk) -> karnors -> sebilis / velks / chardok (howling stones fairly popular as well)

Someone mentioned the two troll guards (SK and Shaman) in Rathe Mountains. This is a perfect camp, as a necro I've gone from 40-42 in no time, and I should be able to hit 44 today. The money isn't too good (occasional FS weapons and large ringmail) but there are merchants nearby and it's never camped. I'd say camp the Great Oowomp for a while then move to these guys around 40 or so.

A nice spot I've used on evil characters is the West Freeport Arena. The guards there are warriors, there have low hp, seemingly low magic resist. Easy to single them out and are on 6 minute timers. Solo'd there on my DE necro and cleric 28-34 (I think) really quickly. They also drop FS if you can find somewhere to sell it.

I would like to think I've maintained alot of off the beaten path camps on P99.

but I tend to stick to my own habits. and I wouldn't necessarily call some of them off the beaten path.

For Iksars a great leveling strat (the majority of my char's)
1- 20 FoB and then Kurns tower.
20-30 Warsliks Woods. Giant fort. hands down best lvl 20-30 camp with awesome money loot Best. I dare anyone to propose a better location. you can even eek out a couple more lvls in that zone if you move to the gorillas in the caves outside of Dalnirs. but the drastic cut to the money you'll make while lvling will definitely curb your enthusiasm for the spot.

30-40ish Highkeep guards. start on the first floor and killing them till about 34 or 35 then you can move up to the upper floors or the basement. If your playing a iksar SK/MNK/NEC this camp is hands down better than anything else you'll find in the game. the Xp bonus in HHK is staggering. and the fact that every guard drops a fine steel short sword worth 5p 9gold to the erudite merchant on first floor. (who is on a faction neutral to iksars) and you can FD to use the banker.

I would regularly make 500-700p an hour at this camp.

35-50 Crystal Caverns terror/spider/geonid caves.

alot of people go to CC for the orcs which i find to be silly. most of the orcs are stacked up so its very hard to get solo or even 2 pulls. which if solo'n on a nontwink character we all know is akin to suicide.

I go straight past the orcs. past the coldain village down into the terror caves. they can be a little challenging at 35ish but they are definitely killable. the xp is fantastic the bonus here is on point and the cash flow is steady. not nearly as good as WW or HHK but its consistent. and gets much much better when you start killing spiders. who drop Crystalline silk which I was selling for 200p a stack. mind you i wasnt even having to leave the zone because many high level players will come to this lower lvl zone to farm the spiders easier than velks. Oh and there is a banker here who is neural. so even if the dwarves look at you sideways you can still use their banker.

after 50 its a crapshoot really. but I enjoyed top floor CoM/Velks Sometimes get lucky and get a group to SolB or something similiar.
