High Court Rejects Electronic Arts' Free Speech Claim (http://fortune.com/2016/03/21/supreme-court-rejects-electronic-arts-free-speech-claim/)
As a corporate sports figure where image is everything, you'd think it a good thing to get recognized in a major video game with your fellow corporate co-workers. Clocking 9-5, making millions and having all the benefits corp money can buy just isn't good enough these days. Maybe time for another strike! All that lost loot! Life w/o a few extra expensive cigars, they have it soooo hard :(
Hey, wait, thought the supreme court was at a grinding halt... lol
thanks 0bama..

please elaborateI know, if it's not pokemon, it's not news. But for the rest of us that like video games, this may be of some concern.
I'm mad at them all but that's not the point. Actually I'm prolly more mad at EA, but not on account of this :D (they crapped on EnB and UO).
But still, this is a matter of free speech? Why do sports peeps need to be so money grabby over a game made for kids and adults? If this is a glimpse of the things to come, this is likely the last authentic sports game of it's kind. With this many people, they going to settle on like $20 each from the franchise?
I know free speech probably doesn't apply, but still it seem so petty to go after a game maker because they used the likeness, and of so many, in a game. Maybe if were just a few people, but these are teams that play in the public venue and get paid really really well for that. imo deeply petty.

if EA used your likeness(identity) to make tens of millions, wouldn't you want to be compensated fairly and/or given advanced opportunity to consent?

Me personally? sure, most likely and depending on the usage. But say on a team with everyone else and where we are making millions of dollars from what we're doing in public? heh no. I mentioned that though in there.
But this isn't about money, it's about vanity.

it is about money. a vast majority of athletes, NFL athletes especially, are incredibly bad with money. and average career earnings are much lower than you may think.
wealthy or not, they still have a right to their identities.

Let me get this straight: OP believes that EA should be able to use people's likeness without permission for profit?

But it wasn't their actual identities, just a "likeness".

How would they make money off a likeness if it was not obviously linked to a person?
Are you just being contrary for its own sake? THATS MY THING
Also it's about NFL, not sure what you mean by NCAA

What would Bernie Sanders do in such a situation as this? :D WWBSD
Oh wait, these corporate millionaire jocks don't count because they have star power worship, might make BS look bad. Look how impossible it was just to nail OJ! But I started the thread dangit, so obviously they are going to take the total opposite side until they can figure out what the social media groupthink is pff hhehe
Throwing the ball, yes, and million dollar endorsements. These guys must be so hurtin!

Crazy enough, if they took away superdelegates he might win. Hillary is dropping like a rock. Anyway, IRYD and a couple others in this thread might be excited about that, thought I'd tie in a mention. Could be fun watching TRUMP slaughter him in general election.
WWBSD... hmm...... hehehe

Anyway, it's not "a millionaires success". If it were an individual I'd might say otherwise. But it's a class action lawsuit. That means lawyers will get the money and anything left I could imaging will go to union reps or something hehe. This is more like corporate warfare. And where does it stop? What about fantasy football?? Sports websites?
Washington Redskins: they're stealing our souls with teh photographs!
It's a photograph, that's how character textures are typically made. No different than any website that uses photos from a game. This isn't Europe for balls sake.
and btw, the US supreme court get something like 20000 requests a year, and they manage to handle around 40. This is priority?
