fight was at 170. In boxing changing even 1 or 2 pounds for a weight class is considered a huge deal when it comes to the fight science. So take it easy...
Its the equivalent of playing basketball really good in junior high whipping all kinds of ass, going through your biggest growth spurt 9-10th grade not touching a basketball, then not being able to make a single freethrow as if you never played in your life.

It was a good fight nonetheless and I'm not a McGregor fan. McGregor's ego is bruised but I think he is the type of fighter who will obsess about the holes in his game and get them fixed ASAP. I only hope his hype is over.
Nate Diaz is no slouch. Take a look at the people he has lost to and then take a look at how many of them have held titles or beaten top contenders. The biggest problem with Nate is that he is not a good finisher and his fights go the distance, leaving the fight in the judges hands.
McGregor has nothing to be ashamed of. He knows what he has to do, how he has to improve, and how he must evolve to continue.

The wieght was a big advantage knocking some one out at 145 doesn't translate to 170 in most cases. I like mcgregor was disappointed. Hopefully he comes down to defend his featherweight belt against aldo

You make a point but we're talking about striking as it relates to the fight and McGregor expecting to KO him.
Weight doesnt necessarily give you an advantage in BJJ but having long and slender limbs certainly does.

Mcgregor is a good striker, not a great fighter. Going up in weight as a small fighter with only striking abilitity is extremely hard. If he had a ground game or size he could. All he does is talk and puts on a great show with his mouth though.
The sad part is alot of fighters out there right now are better fighters and not getting a quarter of the money this guy does. Thats why the ufc has became a show where boxing is still an art.

Weight class didn't come into play all that much, he gassed out after 3 minutes in round 1 because he was throwing haymaker after haymaker and jumping around like an idiot. Once he gassed there was no way he was KOing Diaz... and when he gave his back it was because he was already KO'd and clearly gave up, unlike Holms who was actually put to sleep.

Felt like the Golden age again (minus having the whole card stacked) with the big moments.
Dana was just telling Miesha Tate to retire last year like a wise-guy douchebag when Miesha said she was waiting for a title shot and not taking any bullshit fights.
Feels good when the bully doesn't get his way. Not sure Miesha deserves the belt in 2016, but she's paid her dues and I was really hyped for her.

Penn signed to exclusively fight for the Japanese Fighting and Entertainment Group's (FEG) K-1 promotion citing a lack of challenging fights left for him in the UFC.[21] The UFC promptly stripped him of the welterweight title, claiming Penn breached his contract and that the signing constituted him refusing to defend his title. Penn filed a suit against the UFC and publicized his side of the conflict, claiming his UFC contract had already expired. Penn filed a motion to stop the UFC from awarding a new welterweight title, but that motion was denied.[28]
In his second fight for FEG, Penn fought again at welterweight (170 pounds) and defeated Duane Ludwig at the 2004 K-1 MMA Romanex show in under five minutes by arm triangle choke.[2] Following the Ludwig fight, Penn moved up in weight class to face the undefeated Rodrigo Gracie at middleweight (185 pounds).[29] Penn won by decision, extending his winning streak to four fights.[19] On March 26, 2005, at the inaugural event of FEG's new MMA promotion Hero's, Penn faced future UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida, losing by unanimous decision at K-1 Hero's 1. The fight happened at an open weight class with Penn weighing in at 86.5 kilograms (191 lb) and Machida 102 kilograms (225 lb).[30] Later that year at K-1 World Grand Prix Hawaii, Penn returned to middleweight to face Pride Fighting Championship veteran Renzo Gracie, which he won by unanimous decision.[2]

McGregor is an absolutely huge featherweight who can only make that type of cut because he is so young. He is a big, but more natural lightweight and he had a complete training camp for a fight at 155.
Nate Diaz is a natural lightweight who fights at 155. He is way too small to be a contender at 170.
Neither fighter had to cut and both came in a few pounds under 170.
The reason the UFC booked the fight at 170, despite BOTH fighters previously agreeing to a 160lb catch weight bout is that a SAFE weight cut needs to start 14 days(or more) before the day of the weigh-in. The fight was at 170 because the UFC does not want the liability of a contract requiring a fighter to risk their health.
Nate Diaz was a good match up for McGregor on paper. Dos Anjos wrecked Diaz with leg kicks to the point Diaz could hardly stand up. McGregor could/should have done the same. Diaz does not have an aggressive takedown game to counter McGregor's perceived advantage in the power striking game. I'm sure Dana White expected Diaz to get bloodied for a few rounds and then TKO'd.
Instead, Diaz kept boxing with tight, straight jab/cross combos. And McGregor, instead of landing KO shots to the jaw like he did with Aldo*, landed on the eyebrow/forehead and only caused superficial cuts and minor swelling.
*note: Most of the Brazilians have looked like shit since UFC updated its drug testing policy, e.g., Renan Barao.
Sorry to all of you who think McGregor is some superhero just because he runs his mouth. His ground game is shit. That shot was sloppy, and if he even attempted to defend during the scramble and choke, it was so bad as to be unidentifiable by commentators and media. And how about that chin? He got wobbled, backed up, and wobbled again by a guy who has never in life been associated with punching power.
McGregor is just the new poster boy for the WWE mentality UFC fans. He talks out his ass for hours so that a few funny quotes will end up on the media, and it ends up working the same way as it does for scripted heels.
Good chance he loses the 145 belt to Edgar if that gets booked, and no chance he cracks the top 3 at 155, which is the weight he should have been fighting all along.

Conor, with 1 N Conor, has fought 2 total fighters with what would be called good ground games.
Chad Mendes cut ~15 lbs in 3 weeks and had no camp, yet battered McGregor for 2 rounds until gassing badly. Still, McGregor toughed it out and ended up with the KO when Mendes couldn't even lift his arms.
And then the Diaz fight where his ground game looked like shit and he lost.
That is the picture of his ground game. It isn't "very good", at best it is still a big question mark even in the minds of other fighters and experts. At worst, he has no wrestling and needs to get some sub defense advice from Holly Holm.
Idiots like you were the ones eating up the McGregor v. Lawler hype a week ago. Diaz is an attrition boxer with nearly half of his fights determined by decision, he isn't "amazing" and he still beat up McGregor standing.
You're an idiot parrot of every mma forum that jumps from conclusion to conclusion.
You are half right. I am citing the conclusions of the vast majority of the MMA media and the podcasts of a few current and former UFC fighters. That is called news.

Like fight of the year potential.

His ground game could use some serious work. He's a brown belt. Nate has been a black belt forever.
His standup is great unless he's gassing. His head movement and footwork was great against Nate, but you could tell even in that round he was getting tired. He started getting flat-footed, lost the bounce, ate some shots.
I also don't think he's as well rounded as everyone claims, and when he fights Edgar, we'll find out for sure. But the Mendes thing was... yeah. He did not look good there. Edgar is just going to be a stronger version of that.
2nd Aldo fight should be interesting, too. I was hoping that would be a better fight. That honestly had potential to be fight of the year given their styles, but Aldo got dunked real quick. I wouldn't necessarily call it a fluke like most would. Aldo was being dumb.

Why he needed to beat nate's ass n tie things up by calling lawler out.
UFC better protect that ass with canceled fights, injuries, and delays while conveniently rotating edgar out of schedule.
But with connor's big dollar contract, I'm thinking its a W for UFC if Connor takes 1 L.
Similar to how they treated Overeem and Rampage (wrestler after wrestler after knee surgery) after he signed his big contract. If they feel someone is overvalued they take care of it. Reem had his revenge last fight and went into the JDS matchup without renegotiating a new deal.

Ya he gassed and lost because of it but it seems crazy that no one can see that mcgregor drinks his own koolaid and believes his own hype. Anyone who goes into a fight thinking they can just leave their guard down within reach of another guy is fucking up. if he ever starts taking fighting seriously, trains hard keeping his endurance up, and remembers that he isn't invincible, I don't see anyone in either weight class beating him.
