Hi folks,

TLDR; Thoughts on "true newb" type of guild for alts using only what we find/loot/earn/sell to each other without outside help of any kind?

I have been kicking around an idea in my head (I'm sure its not new for this server) about an alternate rules guild for folks interested in a different sort of experience on specific alts. The idea would be to do an as "pure" as possible fresh start on any alt(s) that join the guild, and then only group/help/accept help from other players following this same rule. I'm interested in your thoughts on any other rules/guidelines and potential hurdles to consider.

The rules/guidelines for the guild are of course all honor system, opt-in (by joining) and intended to be the basis for joining the guild. Folks interested in skirting/breaking rules could just as easily play the way they want in any other guild and should do so. The rules also only apply to your char that is in the guild, while in the guild BUT if it is not a brand new char these rules should have been observed prior to joining. Other mains/twink alts/etc. out of guild is totally fine. These rules should be seen as like RP-elements you are choosing to follow for the char that is in the guild.

Here are the things I am thinking so far

Classic/"newb" experience

No twinking
No grouping with twinks
No accepting help from outside of guild unless they are also true newbs (including plat, items, buffs - click these off yourself if someone buffs you without your consent)
No use of mains/alts to help (ie breaking camps, camping/MQing items, Dial a Ports etc, SoWs for CR, rogue alts for CR, etc.)

Use only what you loot or buy/share/sell from in guild members or other true newbs (ie players following the same rules as you)

No buying/selling/trading from outside of guild (easy to get cheap powerful items)
Example (not OK): not allowed to sell bone chip stacks for 10p outside of guild, or buy Wraith Bone Hammer for 30p etc.
Example (totally OK): Selling banded armor you crafted to an out of guild newb who (as perceived by you) probably earned their limited plat from a true newb experience

Considering other guidelines
Use in game interaction with guild only for advice/help/suggestions/etc.
No use of wiki/forums/non-guild players for the purpose of researching things for your char

In theory these things wouldn't mean not interacting with out of guild players, but being careful not to group/accept help/plat/etc. from players who haven't followed these same rules because it then dilutes the intended experience for your char. We'd be looking to sort of pretend to the best of our ability that it's a brand new server and we have only each other and other true newbs to rely on. The guild tag is one form of "proof" that a char is following the same rules, but playing along with other true newbs (as perceived by you) who aren't in guild also fits in to the experience.

Ex:
Grouping with a random level 4 in GFay who has starter gear - OK
Grouping with a level 4 with a fungi - not OK

And again, this is all as an opt-in (by joining the guild) basis, per-char (not per person/account). People are free to leave the guild at any time to go pursue PL/buffs/epic MQs/etc. but that character would not then be allowed back in. Likewise any characters already leveled outside of these rules (lvl 30 fungi monk who then banks all gear) should be considered eligible to join. You will know if this was the case and enforce it on yourself.

Please share any thoughts/recommendations/questions below, thanks!

I was literally considering setting up EXACTLY this. I intend to involve all my characters in this.

The way I've played so far is refusing to buy/sell from any PC, only NPCs.

I've violated these proposed rules once, by looting a Fine Steel weapon from a guard someone else killed. I'll give that away and join up!

*The reason I haven't done this yet is the "grouping with newbs only" rule. I figured this would be a non-starter, but seeing others have the same idea...

Haha that is awesome!

Yeah I figure it is lonely to do this alone but could be a fun, extreme-classic feeling to plod along with others. Hence the guild.

Some good discussion is happening on the server chat thread about this. I am planning to drum up some more interest and flesh out the intent/vision a little more simply with feedback and then get something more concrete in place in game.

It was done once that i recall but I cant remember the name of guild. I love this type of idea. I feel the challenge makes it worthwhile. Do it and see what happens. Ill roll and join.

I would also be interested in joining up. A few weeks ago I started up on p99 and rolled a SK, up to lvl 15 everything I had was from killing mobs on my own, wearing a mix of raw-hide, leather and patchwork armor because I was saving up and working on my trade skills. On my way to Freeport from Qeynos a lvl 60 Druid took pity on me and passed on some high level gear, it felt like cheating but i took it anyway haha.

Let me know if you decide to form one and I will roll an alt to play in it.

I would be interested, let me know if it comes to fruition.

as much as this is a pretty fun idea i just dont see this going anywhere past a few people playing for a few hours then never logging into those toons again. or even more realistically finding people who arnt at least a bit twinked. at this point in the server i dont even consider it twinking to throw a set of banded or some hp rings on a alt to start them off.

p1999 had classic no twinked guilds. now they are geared raid guilds. i think unfortunetly for you you may of kinda missed the boat on the experience yer looking for. having played classic and starting very soon after this server started, i can honestly say you missed out on some very fun but very frustrating times.

I just got into P99 and haven't even played any on my toon yet, so I'd be down for a "total newb" guild.

I don't remember if it was mentioned here or your other thread, but if buying from NPCs is NOT allowed, that seems a bit extreme. Otherwise I'd be interested.
