View Full Version : Project LFG is LIVE!!
You heard that correctly! I got frustrated seeing people shout throughout the lands of Norrath – “Ranger LFG!” I felt bad for those poor Rangers! I wanted to do something about it…:)
What I basically did was create a web application to bring the /lfg feature to Project 1999. It was an in-game feature released in a later expansion after Velious. That means it will never be available in-game on the Project 1999 server. I think it’s such an essential tool for bringing people together. After all – we are getting older with more responsibilities and need to maximize our productivity with the limited time we have to play. No one should be spending hours /lfg

Happy grouping! :D

Hmm, interesting if people use it. I was never much a fan of the tool back on live myself though. But I bookmarked it, could be handy if I don't feel like running around one day.

Get this stickied, along with the new EC website thread. Otherwise people won't use it.
Maybe put it in the Newbie forum too.

I was going to make a similar site. Nice work hope it gets some attention.
One thing I would recommend adding is automatic removal of groups/people lfg because what will happen is people will go offline and not set lfg to off on the site. I'd do a 1 hour auto lfg/lfm off.
Another idea is a button people can press that makes a popup box appear with a pre-made message that can be copied then pasted in game like..
/tell <NAME> Hello I saw you are LFG want to party?
Also maybe make Show All the default tab so people see that other people are using it.

Hey! It is up and running. You might just be the only one on it right now. I launched it last night and I have been trying to spread the word about it but it has not caught on just yet. I didn't expect it to catch on over night. I saw about 6 people on it earlier and just 1 right now. Give it time and keep on using it. The more people that continue to try and use it the more and more it will encourage others to do the same. It will eventually catch on and making grouping so much easier.

This is a very valid point.

It's already set to remove any records that have not been updated within an hour. Also it will delete all references to the character if you close the browser / tab :)

Fantastic. Hope the people this would help find it and use it.
Although you may want to have it listed on the page that closing out of the page will remove them from the tool. People might not realize that and assume they can just toss their name on the list and close out, having it still be there. Just a simple "Closing this page removes you from the tool" statement.

Its this kinds of things that make me want to keep playing this game.
I've been making note of some of the suggestions I have heard and will work on implementing those in the future. I'd like to see a larger number of people using it first...I've got a couple hundred hours into the application already hehe.
I added some verbiage to the page as well to point out some valid points and also explain a little bit how the application works.
Hope everyone continues to use it and the adoption rate climbs! :)

I've noticed a couple of these and I find it rather annoying myself. I try to monitor it and remove them as I see them. I'll try to think of a better solution. If it continues I will start to ban the childish n00bs from the site.

I really like this idea. Such potential to be a great tool right alongside the EC Auction Logger.
I'm not sure if you're aware of it, but there's a Project 1999 Facebook page (surprising, right?) that gets quite a few views. Lots of followers. I recommend posting your website there! If you don't have a Facebook or you don't want to do that, I'll do it for you.
Cheers. Good work, man.

Hey Zhex! You must have gotten into the site before I pushed a bug fix for this same exact issue this morning. It should work as you would expect now. I deleted your record. Let me know if you run into further issues or if this problem continues.
Thanks for using Project LFG!

Hi. I think you filled a need that has been long standing here at P99.
Last hear I tried to initiate something like this but much simpler just by setting up an IRC channel on the same IRC server that #p99 runs on. But everyone that joined it saw no one but me in the channel and left. Rather than staying in the channel to hopefully get more people to stay.
The site looks great but you're definitely fighting an uphill battle.
I'm at work now but I'll be sure to start using it when I'm LFG at home.
The only real suggestion I have is to let me post multiple LFGs for all my toons. Not just one.
I seriously have 5+ alts that I would like to be LFG on. Every day when I login I drop something like "58 paladin, 57 rogue, 57 shaman, 45 cleric (com), 45 monk (com), and 36 SK (mm) LFG" in guild chat.
There's a workaround for now to just put yourself lfg for levels 1-60 and put everything in the comments.
But that would be a nice feature add for later.
I'll let you know if I have any issues or further feedback once I use it while actually LFG.

Why would the staff sticky this? This is not the first third party LFG website. It's up to the community to make it popular. Others have come and gone.

I posted it on there a week or two ago. It's on the left hand side under Visitor posts. I still spread the word to anyone I see /ooc LFG. Most of them never knew it existed and start using it which is awesome :)

Oh I know lol!
I try to explain to people that it literally takes about 5 seconds to post your LFG or LFP record, minimize your browser window, and go about your way playing EQ. The 5 seconds it takes to do that is so worth it! I know groups use the tool to look for more players because I have received tells that they saw me on Project LFG and I've gotten a group in zones that I was not even in at the time. Global /LFG ftw!
I've heard the "There is no one on it..." response before but explain that it's because others have the same attitude that they have (or they have already found a group).
Do yourselves a favor my fellow EQers and take the 5 seconds to post your LFG / LFP on the site! It can save you valuable time...or maybe they would prefer to /shout LFG for an hour or more??? lol

Some computer illiterate people on that facebook post.
This is cool . Yet sad. that we have to use some off website to find group because its "classic" to have /who all LFG not work?
Can we agree that's bullshit? IMO they should fix it to help keep the social game going.
Also lots of stuff is not classic on here , so why make things like show no buff timers and break /who all LFG/ a lot of time spent fixing stuff that doesn't really matter (*while some big things are needing help) Seems this does take away from classic experience because it makes it harder to form groups for you new players.
Is your choice dev since all free time but would like to see ya not worry about stuff like breaking who all lfg.
ANY even basic GM events would be nice or some fixing of current issues like flowing thought not working or aura battle and fungi vindi etc not stacking.
Pretty sure /who all LFG worked in 99? use to work here

Kinda feel like we got off on the wrong foot on that Facebook post. People hopped aboard the keylogger bandwagon right out the gate, which was poor logic to begin with, which then turned it into an argument, which was stupid and unnecessary. Maybe a time will come when projectlfg can be broadcasted there again without it seeming like spam.

The UI could use some work on the site, but I like the feature. Maybe an IRC chat room on the site or something for people to talk on about groups before committing to it? Just a thought.

Is there any way to take down an LFG/LFP message manually? If there is, it's not apparent to me. Clicking "LFG Off" doesn't appear to do anything. Without this feature the list would be bound to get cluttered with out of date entries if the tool got popular, which would make it less convenient to use. [Edit: Ah, I misread the info box. Apparently closing the browser tab is supposed to delete the LFG entry, but it doesn't do so immediately.]
Also, I think the comment section should allow punctuation.
I agree that it would be good if this were stickied though. I know the admins might not want to endorse a 3rd party tool that isn't exactly classic, but as long as /who lfg isn't working properly, it would be good to have some sort of stopgap in place.
