Necro - Levels 8-12

I recently started an (untwinked) Iksar Necro and I'm up to level 8 now. I think I'm starting to get a decent feel for the class (I mostly play melee characters) but with the new level 8 pet it's becoming much harder to out damage my pet and gain full exp.

Am I better off fighting blues for exp, or should I be tackling whites and yellows? Do I just let my pet eat the exp or should I always be trying to out damage the pet? I do have the Ward Undead spell, so should I try to focus on undead mobs?

So far I've been hanging in the pit in the Field of Bone, but I'm open to try other nearby areas. Any advice is appreciated.

Group with someone whose out of range so you get full exp.

Or just group with someone. When grouped you don't need to worry about out damaging pet.

Stay in FoB until about 12 then start doing the main floor in Kurns. XP bonus in Kurns is really good and 8-12 goes pretty fast in FoB. Whatever you do, don't kill a mole and don't kill a thick boned skeleton in Kurns basement. One kill of any of them and your KoS permanently. I suggest staying in Kurns from 12-20.

I kind of second what everyone says here. My necro on blue is only lvl 5 where as my red necro is 54. On r99 I didn't care about out damaging pet because of the xp bonus there. On b99 it's a little different. I recommend either finding a partner or just let the pet eat the xp bc you're going to waste soooo much mana trying out out dmg your pet it's retarded

What I've been doing is just fear kiting mob and not letting the pet attack until it's at 50% then there's no way the pet can out damage you and all you have to do is keep fear running.

If you are grouped with someone, but they are in another zone, will i get full xp or half, if pet kills 51%+ of mob

i remember just meleeing with vampiric embrace. i bought a brell's keg popper cheap, hits like a truck for the level like 15/35 1hb, has a proc but you'll be too low but vamp embrace procs + siphon strength to pull worked just fine. idk, those levels seemed to fly by. although i think i had a tola robe, but im not 100% sure i had one.

Fairly certain I grouped with another level 8 necromancer and just killed as much of the first floor of Kurns as possible. Bone walk a pet that is level 9 (cons yellow) and just cast Ward Undead.

Hint for any pet class: Just group! Does not matter with whom
All this "Am i doing enough damage to get full xp" is really not needed. Doing more damage than pet usually leads to slower kills, at least at low levels. Not worth it. Just get *anybody* in your group.
