View Full Version : <Cracked Staff Artisans> Tradeskillers Anonymous!
Cracked Staff Artisans is a guild for tradeskills, leveling (for tradeskills), and occasionally RP.
Full disclosure: We're tiny!
We have no level requirement, but we do expect members to have at least 1 tradeskill focus. (Note: Fishing doesn't count.) Our secondary focus is leveling. We're all about enjoying the journey, so you won't find us racing to the top. We like taking breaks to explore places and help others.

(in)Frequently Asked Questions
What do I get if I join CSA?
You get...
* to hang out with people who understand your strange obsession with hitting that combine button
* assistance with farming materials and setting up shop in EC tunnel
* to ask other CSA members for help making components (like tempers, studs, boning, etc)
* to tap into the vast repository of EQ knowledge (tradeskilling and otherwise) that I have stored in my brain
* unsound advice regarding your love life and dog training tips
* no raiding drama because we don't raid
* A fun guild tag
What would get me rejected from CSA?
* Being a jerk
* Hating tradeskills
* Betraying your god at any point (Heathen!!)

I refuse to tradeskill and buy my arrows from CSA.
A++ would buy again
Other guilds post screenshots of dead things, CSA posts about tradeskills!
What are we up to?
* Leveling up a rogue so we can make color extracts for armor dyes
* Related to above, compiling screenshots of all dyes (ALL OF THEM) on all plate-wearing races!
* Also related to above, looking for FP armor models :P
* Looking for sources for leather padding (!!)
* Master Smith still looking for his enchanter (Alokin, where are you? :( )
* Planning to provide handmade arrows in EC on occasion! (Sorry if prices seem all over the place when we get out there, we have no market comps so we have to guess wildly to see what sells)
* I'm getting baking up so I can provide BIRTHDAY CAKES and WEDDING CAKES (where mah birthday homies at, I know you guys have them because everyone has a birthday. And if you wanna get married I can do that too. Brewing is at 192. Just saying.)
Shenanigans with other people:
* Thousands of muffins pending for factionquest with Aalderon
* Uh...??? Who knows!

The Cracked Staff Artisans are also looking for suppliers! As tradeskillers, we have a constant need for ingredients, components, and a Phychoanalyst to examine my strange fascination with Edible Goo. Now that we are gearing up for dyed armor, contact us if you have items to sell! here's the list of items we need to continue to bring you quality products!

Today, I visited the Miller farm in the hopes that the scarecrows might give me some of the Jack-O-Lantern Fungus that grows naturally in their heads. They were keeping up with their bleach routines so I didn't get much.
What I did find was a lone scarecrow gazing wistfully across the river. It occasionally waved its arms in a half-hearted attempt to scare the lions and bears that constantly traipse through the farm, but most of its time was spent gazing.
http://i.imgur.com/fRyFWnl.jpg
Being a scarecrow, they don't talk too much, so I don't know why it was there. Maybe it was pondering the green haze on the horizon. I loitered for a while, waiting for the fungus to grow (it takes a while), when all of a sudden...
http://i.imgur.com/ZO7ezjs.jpg
What in Tunare's name were those little beetles and why were they after the scarecrow? I raced to help, but I was too late.
http://i.imgur.com/zKRCvj1.jpg
RIP, scarecrow :(
The scarecrow and I had vanquished the beetles at the cost of the scarecrow's, uh...'life', you could call it, but not long after my poor ally lit its last jack-o-lantern, I discovered there were MORE of them! Actually, there was an army! I sought out one of the farmers for an explanation.
http://i.imgur.com/lVCrN45.jpg
He just looked at me and grumbled.
He didn't tell me much, given that he was busy watching his farm get invaded by--wait a second, what's that enormous one in the middle of the swarm?
http://i.imgur.com/GUup6W8.jpg
A druid was harmed in the making of this screenshot.
Gah!
The swarm was insatiable. I succeeded in finishing off the big one, only to find the little ones attacking everything in sight.
http://i.imgur.com/0pzZ7e4.jpg
Luckily the farmers managed to defend their farm from the swarm with the help of myself and the scarecrows. One of their neighbors told me that the swarm had been sent by Bertoxxulous, the god of disease, who was also responsible for the green haze and the pestilence that has stricken so many of the animals in the Karanas.
At least I now had an explanation for that rash on my--but never mind, that's not important. All I can say is visitors beware! The plague is upon us and it is highly uncomfortable.
PS: WTB Jack-O-Lantern Fungus!
WARNING: If you are wearing dyed FP in the EC tunnel, I will find you and I will take screenshots of you! (Thanks for holding still, Auxinput and Bucks...you were AFK, but whatever, who cares about the details.)

Guild rosters aren't usually relevant to guild threads, but I feel like ours is. Here's what we've got! Please note that due to the amount of time and resources necessary to work on tradeskills, we will have varying levels of skill and the skill levels listed may change from day to day. I try to keep track of what everyone's doing but I'm only human :P
Apprentices are members who have plans to progress in a skill but have not gotten past 100. I include them for transparency's sake but anonymously so people don't hit them up at random just because their names are in the guild thread.
If you need to contact any members for something, do a /who all cracked in-game OR go to our forums at http://p99csa.prophpbb.com/ and leave a message. You do not have to register to post in the Leave a Message section. (Our forums also function as a tradeskill board! Feel free to register and contribute and/or ask questions.)
Your best bet at getting into contact if the chosen member isn't on is usually to send a tell to me (Tadhg/Gladoree/Saldi) explaining yourself. I will happily stalk members for you.
By the way, we have 7 active(ish) members at the moment. Come join us if you <3 tradeskills!

Hey Sheldyn! Thanks for the groups (even though last night was short-lived). Holler at will :) If you ever have any tradeskill questions, I'd be happy to answer them!
Guess what! p99 finally has one of the very first (almost) complete sets of Steelsilk in game! It took a team of dedicated people to make this set of armor, because teamwork is dreamwork and tradeskilling is all about dreams!
Expediency gathered the materials and found the cleric to imbue black pearls, and Milkymilkycamel (a non-CSA artisan) did the combines. (I was the mostly useless expert consulted during the process. 'Expert'. Hah!)

Here at CSA, we all have enchanter alts so we can do more stuff with tradeskills! Yeah, we're pretty hopeless.
Update on what we can do and random stuff -
- We've got a researcher in the house! Necro (lvl 54) and enchanter (lvl 35) research! It's a long road to becoming a research master.
- Skalde the banded guy decided to join us, mostly because the tag is pretty cool. He's furthering his smithing aspirations :D
- I HAVE SO MANY BIRTHDAY CAKES YOU GUYS
- Our JC dude Bailar was eaten by real life, if anyone was sadly wondering where that jewelry dude with the price spreadsheet went
- Kaffee our dwarven smith was also eaten by real life
- The RP is strong with our latest aspiring Erudite tailor
- Informal alliance with <SOTS> for groups and leveling and fun things
/bump to keep this thread from getting locked!

We're sending a monk down to drag your corpse to the surface!
You know you're in Cracked Staff Artisans when...
* Your trainer level in Pokemon Go is higher than your main on p99
* You see nothing wrong with making 15,000 muffins for someone
* Those skeletons in Najena will rue the day your guild leader dropped you off in LS...
* You've got an enchanter alt. You know, for tradeskills.
* The only reason you're in SRo is to farm Terrorantula silks. What is this AC people keep asking about?
* You take field trips out to FoB for spiderling silks. You know...for tradeskills. Duh.
* "Hey Tadhg, where's the best place to find ?"
* You try to convince your guildies to help farm high elves for their meat so another guildy can make some Elven Veal. Unfortunately, you're the only real evil in the guild... (but only a little. Okay, you've mostly just got questionable morals.)
* Complete strangers will /tell you for recommendations on crafters or material sellers
* You've got a spreadsheet going to determine prices for products. For some reason the min-maxers think you're nuts.
* You've got a PUBLIC spreadsheet for prices that you link in EC tunnel when advertising your wares [I]and everyone visits it!
* Your GuildMOTD consists of puns, announcements of open raids, DoF events, messages to other members about tradeskill materials, and nonsense.
* You have an awesome guild tag!

Kaffee has pricing spreadsheets for all blacksmithing that he was working on, I've got spreadsheets for high elf and wood elf cultural, and Bailar has his jewelry pricing spreadsheet that he links in EC when he's on. Those are just the ones I know about :)

HERE IT IS! The full set of cultural everyone's been waiting for: Erudite Steelsilk! We decided to try it on the female erudites to see what it looked like and it blew us away. It's like a crazy semi-steampunk deep sea diver style suit of armor. See below!

The blue tint is for Prexus-specific steelsilk. I believe Cazic Thule is red-tinted and Quellious is gold-tinted (although actually it looks like Quellious is the base color, given the colors of the female erudite version).
In the words of Merman, praise Prexus! ;)

So I started an IKS MNK with the intention of full RP (Lizardman speech mostly, broken common tongue when necessary), questing for items, crafting my own clothing, weapons, etc when I can. I got to level 6 with shackle of dust and clay, curscale armor pieces and a pair of rhino boots I was able to buy (not the super expensive ones, the ones that go for 2gp). I have been skilling up brewing, tailoring, and blacksmithing from the get. Using what ever extra points I have after learning my combat skills. Now that I've read Kaffee's blacksmithing guide on your site, I feel I'm going about this wrong.
My intention is not to make tons of money but for my monk to live in the world as it would be. Not twinking, not just using my main to buy everything. It's tempting but this is a whole other kind of fun play style. Opinions on methods for trade skilling? Should I focus on one at a time or each one little-by-little as I go?

Well, I suppose if you're going full RP, you should first ask yourself this: What would the monk do? Is your monk focused or scatterbrained? Easily bored or willing to do boring things for long stretches?
That said, it's very typical for tradeskillers to spend periods of time simply gathering materials and then doing a single long combining session for 1 skill at a time. It's also typical for high level toons to get gear/buffs first to help you (+Wis/+int stuff, or +str for smithing), but that's not something an RP iksar monk would do. You can do random combines sporadically as you get materials, also. No rules against it! But with super low wis/int like what iksar typically start out with, you'll find skill ups few and far between.
My hypothesis is that tradeskills are meant to be leveled along with your character, either in small spurts or bit by bit as you go. As an iksar tailor, you'd be making silk items from all the spiders in FoB, while someone in EC might be making stuff out of animal pelts :) Or you may only be able to afford brief sessions of smithing as you earn money from hunting out in the big wide world. But do as you feel is right for your character! There are no rules against it if it's possible in-game.

Well, I guess I am going the route of leveling up and gathering mats for future training sessions in the various trades. That is the way it works IRL, right? One does not become a master baker, smith,butcher, (modern examples)interior decorator, Network Security Admin, etc. without years of training and developing. I just hope it doesn't take literal years for Zylys! LOL! If it does, it will be fun leveling among the way.
Thanks for the reply!
