View Full Version : Cisco Part Needed
Rogean

Hi Pals.
We are in need of a particular Cisco part. We can pay for it but I just can't find it for sale anywhere since Cisco does not sell them separately.
What it is is a Hard Drive Tray/Caddy in 3.5 Size for a Cisco UCS M3+ Server.
If anyone has any of these, or can find a place that sells them, let me know. I've already checked the obvious places (Ebay, etc).
It looks like this, without the hard drive in it:
http://i.imgur.com/cxQ53IY.jpg
Note that the part number in the picture would be for the whole hard drive and tray, as Cisco does not sell them separately. We only need the Tray.
Need atleast QTY 2.
Thanks.

Isn't this what the donation button is supposed to cover?

He's not asking for a donation, just help sourcing the part.
Sorry Rogean, we use Dell and HP SANs so nothing kicking around.

Could you guys possibly rig something up with a similar part, or is it a matter of connections and not dimensions?

There is no part number for it because Cisco does not sell them separately. They sell them bundled with the hard drives under their part numbers.

I put some feelers out but most of the people that I have been talking to is saying what you already said. I would try to sweet talk a rep at Cisco.

So I guess there is a part number for this, but I don't know what it is. The part number for the 2.5 version is 800-35052-01.
Still looking to find these for sale, or if anyone can atleast find the part number for it.
Thanks.

Ok, I might have found the part number.

Can't really find it for sale (except for ridiculously stupid prices).
But that's a start, for any of you mentioning Cisco contacts.

Yeah nothing atm, no ebay no craigslist, just resellers at ~$125 (chunk of metal made in china). One sold on ebay.de this month for $25. Does this caddy have any electronics in it, or just plugs and wires if even that? From the pics I see, I only see rails and a hollow face. You could fabricate it with a little metalworking skill.
We're talking something to cut, grind and drill. Design doesn't need to be exact, just the dimensions. Square tube with vents and rails that you can make or modify. Some clips for the top, maybe slot them in and use a metal bond adhesive (e.g. JB Weld).
Don't think it odd, some people really enjoy building their own custom computer cases etc.

If you only want to spend 20$ I vote making one if you want it now sort of thing. If not pray for it to hit eBay or CL.
Keeping my eyes open but 20$ is a hard budget.

Use a 3d printer to print the frame then add the wiring separately the plugs used are probably used in other things also. Take the 2.5 one gut it and make a frame to use the wiring add whatever adapters you need to plug it in? Sorry I am not real familiar with Cisco products I have made a couple external enclosures for internal hard drives before.
Edit: didn't realize what this was. The posts above about metal fab seem like the best idea just have someone make one and then you can 3d print the front. Or is there something that needs to be plugged in or fit exact? If you have one already you can just take it to a shop and have them make one similar.
Well that is unless your trying to sell whatever it is your fixing then you probably want an original part.

Out of curiosity, do you keep your SmartNet contract up to date? If so, you can most likely open a TAC case, tell them "Oh one of my guys accidently broke two of them while we were re-racking the enclosure" and get them to send you out a couple for free.
If they want a return part, just stick the blanking plates in a bag and send it back, nobody's going to check.

No, but you can get pretty much anything that wasn't straight up stolen covered under a contract after having it recertified by Cisco.
One of my guys on staff apparently did this all the time at his previous job. Usually they'd bill him a hundred bucks to check the equipment out, then sell a normal smartnet contract.
I, of course, am saying this with zero understanding of the financials of the project; it may be something financially viable, it may not.

Come on what? We are not spending $260 on $20 worth of parts. That is just stupid and a waste of funds that is already very limited with what we can spend on Hardware.
