when i started this game up and got ranked at silver my whole dream was to top Emperor Rogean one day.

i doubted it could be done. i doubted in myself, i doubted in my faculties, i thought it might be hubris ever to compare myself to a man and Global of such greatness even in this small way. I played 1 or 2 games with him, we stomped, I could only meet 60% of his score and I felt like I was already at my peak. With my spirit settled I accumulated practice day by day, hour by hour. I climbed in rank until I could touch the ceiling, yet felt only to grow daily in my incompetence until yesterday.

I guess even emperors have bad days, and even a peasant like me can channel the spirit of the void once in a while when the drugs are hitting just right and the clouds of bewilderment clear away.

On behalf of my accomplishment Emperor Rogean, I humbly request from you a minor supplication ITT that will change my life and self image forever: "thanks 4 carry"

also, while the gameplay is definitely shittier than Source, the core mechanics are pretty much intact, there's a lot of skill carryover from when I had time to practice nonstop back in the day, and now i dont have to be a fulltime irc sperg with a server sponsorship to get 5. It's the first and only playable competitive fps with an alive scene since CGS and CoD4 ushered in the great crash of 2007 and CAL folded, and prolly the only popular game since then worth money too (other than Terraria). Hate on it and risk revealing your low videogame powerlevel and the fact that you were too casual back when 1.6/source were relevant to get nostalgic about scrimming and CAL matches with the boys today.

The game is the CS equivalent of SOE filling the p99 market niche by keeping EQ's mechanics and style intact and marketing a graphical update, in an alternate universe where SOE employed competent people. Don't tell me that a decent iteration of live EQ wouldn't interest you if such a thing actually existed.

The retarded patches and skins and 64 tick servers are just terrible though, I'm prepared to admit. I would much prefer it if they had just bolted the matching system onto CSS or 1.6 and marketed the fuck out of it. But they probably never would have hit a critical mass of players with that approach, so fuck it I love the game.
