Hey everyone, I've been back and forth from p99 for years now. I love that classic feel. Recently my friends and I decided to recreate our original characters from everquest release date and see how far we could get them. Unfortunately I originally made a Ranger, and although I love the class and the utility, they seem lack luster compared to other options. I see a lot of people saying rangers are horrible, usually with some snippy or clever remark, and then I see others saying to not listen. Now, I don't have a fungi or 100k laying around to twink him. But he is 25 and has fairly decent gear for his level. My question is... Can rangers solo without a large budget of gear on them? Is fear kiting animals the only real option? I know they are not the best or most efficient or easiest to level or even most desired in groups. But how capable are they without a fungi and woodsman? I currently have gear like the silver swift blade and a tree weave, 5 ac 55 hp rings. and every slot is filled with something in the 200-500 plat range.

Alternatively, if ranger is really just a piss poor option, I was thinking iksar SK, but I am looking for more relaxed play and I feel being and iksar sk might end up being super tense at times...

Thanks in advance, glad to be back.

They can, but why struggle when every man and his dog seems decked out these days? Silver Swiftblade and other items should still be cheap cheap in EC if you want to try.

Plenty of other melee choices out there. If you're really stuck and want something that'll make you some plat, try a druid (dial a port etc) or necro (can level almost naked without any issues) :)

Appreciate the reply Swish. I have a necro duo I am doing with a friend. Iksar necro and shaman, we just started, so hopefully I can make money from that and fund better gear, like a woodsman staff or something. I also have a 36 druid with semi decent gear from my last go at p99. I've thought about the druid. I just wanted a more martial class since I've always done casters and priests to the higher levels. Ranger just has so much utility and I love utility lol

Join Dial A Port on your druid and enjoy the cash flow from porting. Should make plenty to twink with.
