Hello!
First I'd like to say I'm excited to get started back on Classic EQ. A little bit of my history: I played on the Torvonillous server back on live from 99-03ish. I was very young in that time so I only hit level 40ish on my Half Elf Druid, but I loved every minute. Since then I've played several different EMU servers, but mainly the Irreverent solo server on which I mained a bard and a ranger. I also had a stint back during the classic days of p99 which I played a druid up to lvl 14 before RL kicked me off.

But I'm back and ready to give this game another shot! I've been missing that old nostalgic EQ feel too much. So I'm curious on everyone's opinions of a couple of classes depending on how useful to the server they are, how smooth it would be to start fresh untwinked, etc. I'm considering:

Wood Elf Bard: I mained the class on Irreverent so I'm pretty comfortable with the Bard class.

High Elf or DElf Ench: I've always been curious about the ench class. Have never played it, but the thought of illusions, clarity, charming, and mezzing sound fun.

Barb or Iks Sham: I've never played the Shaman class and I have literally no idea what they're useful for. I've heard they're alot of fun and very useful in groups so I'm kind of leaning towards this to have a fresh play experience I've never experienced before.

I'm excited to be back and can't wait to see yall in game!

Bard will level extremely fast if you AOE kite, but it can get tedious as a main since you're always twisting
Ench is incredibly powerful and useful in just about any group, not as versatile as Bard but can do the important stuff (mez, charm, mana regen, slow) better
SHM is an outstanding solo class and great in groups, if you pick SHM go with Ogre or Iksar

I'd go Cleric, Rogue, Wizard/Magician or Bard for a first character. Groups are always in need of heals and damage. Magicians are great soloers and are less gear dependent at lower levels, and Bards are amazing in pretty much every instance. If you're the tanky type, Paladin would be great. You have buffs and can taunt, basically. Even if a group doesn't need a tank you're still functional as an off healer with better damage than a Cleric.

Go with a Druid. You will enjoy it here again. It is also a grea way to fund any other character being that you are starting from the ground up.

Give us a call in game we will be more then happy to help out.

Wouldn't troll be better for Shaman? They have better stats than Iksar and have the same regen, right?

Trolls have 70 base WIS, Iksar have 90. From a spell casting standpoint, it's kind of one sided.

Thank you for the tips everyone. Despite all of the feedback for shaman, I've decided to roll bard. I know the class well and while I love to group, my playtime is limited most days so the solo ability will help a lot. I figure I'll roll an ench and sham alt later

Keep an eye out for (or send me a tell and say hi) Kluamienn, half elf hard native to Qeynos. I hit level 3 this morning but I have to go to work. I plan on staying in the Qeynos area till 10ish then making the classic trek to Freeport area. I'm starting completely fresh so any help and advice is greatly appreciated. Also if any social/leveling guilds are recruiting, I'd love to get in on one.

See you all out there!

Fantastic! Another bard from Qeynos! Remember the rabid wolf/rabid bear quests! Gnoll teeth! And bandit sashes!

I'm relatively new and started a bard so I could level quickly and farm for alts. It has worked out very well and I'm having a blast.

Recommendation: Keep the Bard for when you want to do some crazy swarm kiting, but make a Druid, main it, and level it to 29. Start porting, and you'll make all kinds of money to spend on the Bard and any other characters you want to play.

make a Druid, main it, and level it to 44.

Changed that for you. 44 is when druids get the last of their group ports and therefore make the most money. At 29 they can only go to BBM, WC, Tox, and NK, so unless they're bound somewhere like OT, they'll only get a small percentage of the players who need ports.

An update, Kluamienn has hit level 7 and is over bound in Freeport now. I asked an awesome Druid at Qeynos bank for a SoW to make the journey and he did me a better one and ported me to WC! Really loving the bard and gonna group/solo through EC/NRO/Oasis for the next few levels.

On a side note, awesome advice to do the gnoll fang quest. I saved up like 8 or 9 while I was soloing some gnolls out in the QHills and didn't even know what the quest was. Did the turn in and gained a full level and a half from empty 5 to halfway through 6! If anyone wants to group up on the Freeport side send me a tell.

Also I may or may not start a Druid in the near future too. I loved my Druid on live and am missing it a little bit. But still having a blast with the bard
