When I was in Empire the second time around I hung out with Rygrim a lot, we would farm Fungi's and do exp groups around the clock and I had a blast with him. He was always a real positive guy, always enthusiastic about what we were doing. I had a lot of fun playing with him, he was a real open guy and always shared personal stories and had a great sense of humour. When I left Empire and fought against him he remained a pal, he would allways be the first to send me a tell saying good fight and explaining how excited he was, this box lost a good person and a wonderful person of this community. Rest in peace big dawg ill see you later

Too soon. Hope it was nothing accidental, or stupid, but what does it matter anyway?? Too soon. Was a pleasure doing those late night generals with him and his presence will be missed.

Didn't know him outside of the game, but naturally you get a sense for people after spending so much time with them.

Very sad news :( I only had one encounter with Rygrim and it was a positive one. I was in mistmoore looking for the Black Dire wolf and asked a player in the zone where he spawned...He said right down here in the pit and do I need any help killing him...I said any help be appreciated but this wolf requires a full group at least according to the wiki so we will need more and he said "no worries I am Rygrim main tank for Empire we got this :)." Sure enough he came in and with nothing but small shaman spot heals he killed the wolf for me.

That one small encounter was all it took to see what kind of a guy he was not only in game but spoke volumes to his character in real life.

RIP Rygrim you will be missed =(

Like everybody, im still in shock about hearing this news. Kohl, aka Rygrim, was an amazing individual. He had the kindest and gentlest heart and soul of anybody I have met online or in real life. His good nature is so easily conveyed through his words in teamspeak, that anybody who hears him talk is quickly disarmed by his thoughtful and down-to-earth tone of voice. What a great person this world has lost today. There is an endless amount of good things I could say to describe .. I love you buddy, I miss you already. You will be missed and remembered forever !

Generally don't care about 90% of the populace here, but Rygrim was always there to help a stranger out (myself included) and in a game like this, it can really reflect on the overall goodness of your personality in real life.

I spoke with him a couple times usually during or after pvp I posted on the other thread my first encounter with him he apologized for attacking me and then explained why it kind of stood out. I know others have said similar but it stood out. He seemed like a good person I think I may have only spoken to him twice or so but I never had a bad encounter with him. Its always sad to hear about someone passing away and to know that they have friends and family suffering because of it. It is worse when they were a good person because you know that they impacted others in a positive way and that light gone but not forgotten. I don't like the statue idea for the simple fact it kinda cheapens what he was for the server. I like this sticky and would definitely support something to help his family. Also maybe a support group online we can all make level 1s and sit in a safe town and tell stories about him. Oh and Lite you should probably watch it bud ugly like what your showing tends to affect a person moreso than the people around them.

I'm sure myself and others appreciate the sentiment, but please don't post any information regarding the services. Rygrim was one of the nicest people I've ever met online, and on this server in general. He didn't care that I was new to the game, always told me to not worry and just gave me some advice and carried on helping me. Not once did I ever catch him getting angry at someone for making a mistake, just gave a "next time we'll get it" and everyone believed in him.

Truly one of the best people I've ever encountered and will encounter online. Echoing everything said here, nothing bad can be said about Rygrim. Wish I didn't take a break so I could've spoke more with him. RIP.

Terrible news. The community lost a great person today. Often times we forget that these are real people behind their avatars, and this is a harsh reminder. Based on the overwhelming amount of posts speaking to his personality however, you can immediately feel the impact he had here.

The internet is often a great equalizer when it comes to meeting people. You cannot see their face, judge them on their appearance, their social status, their past… anything. There are no preconceived notions – you initially base your friendship off of personality alone. This is why the news is so devastating to so many people here.

Rygrim was a shining example of someone with an amazing personality and the ability to bring out the best in those around him. Like many have said, he truly cared about the relationships that were forged as opposed to just in game progression. He simply enjoyed hanging out, helping out, and making the game more enjoyable for so many people.

It’s easy to look at Rygrim and see what an asset he was from a gaming perspective. One of our main tanks since the beginning, stellar attendance – he will not easily be replaced. When you look at the intangibles that Rygrim brought to Empire, you begin to realize that he will NEVER be replaced. We will never be able to replace his consistently positive attitude, his calming voice and demeanor. We will never be able to replicate his willingness to help anyone at any time with literally anything they needed. We will never be able to replace the warmth of just sitting in TeamSpeak with him, bullshitting about sports, music, beer, Chaturbate, etc.

Not only was Rygrim an asset to Empire, but to the server as well. Those on the opposing side of Rygrim should have nothing bad to say, as he was always honorable and willing to chat with anyone. He never let the toxicity of the server get to him like so many of us have. New players to the server may have also come across him quietly leveling characters in their newbie groups, offering them help by just being a good group mate. His reach was extremely wide. His presence felt by many.

My stomach sinks when I think about never being able to talk to him again, never being able to /tell Rygrim, or see his character in game again. Something as meaningless as EverQuest suddenly becomes extremely powerful. When events and relationships transcend P99, you know you had something special. Rygrim was special to so many people here, and even though most of us only knew him through EverQuest, we are better people for having had the opportunity to be his friend.

While Empire will never be the same without his good vibes, his personality is deeply ingrained in our guild and our interactions with each other. He showed us how to strive to be better people overall, and he will forever be with us in spirit.

To his family and friends – all the best.

To Rygrim, Kohl – rest well, brother.

Well said. Thank you Gongshow. My heart hurts right now. I wish I could of played more with you guys in the last several months, but i travel for work and work long hours and eq just does not mix well.

Everquest is pretty much how Kohl and I hung out even though he was only a short drive away. I remember when he first started Rygrim and I farmed him a guise before they were removed...then my account was banned and I didn't play for a while and I come back and see the lowly Rygrim is a decked level 60 Warlord.

Back in the day here, in the very beginning, Danlor, and myself (Left), Cyren/buhbuh, Shody, Maple and other players in <Axis> were leveling together and pvping and it was definitely some of the most fun and hilarious times I've ever had in my life, video games or not.

Rygrim was a great fuckin' guy.

We played together on VZTZ, and he was a part of the first guild I ever joined when R99 started. That small guild <Axis> was just a small group of bros - Shody, Kable, Warren, Masaka, myself and Rygrim. We had a lot of fun nights poopsocking at the ancient croc, Feerrott spectres and in Mistmoore.

Danlor, his rogue, was his first character here, and almost everyday, every person in <Axis> broke his balls the second he logged into Vent because he was the weakest pure melee class in a guild full of casters in old world Everquest. When he grouped with us we just told him to sit in the corner and do nothing while we leveled him. It was the source of many chortles.

He truly was a bro's bro, though. One thing I can say about him is that, unlike a large majority of the this server's population (especially on the forums), his persona never altered or conformed into something jaded, guarded or facetious to meet the bizarre standards of game play on this server. If you treated Rygrim with respect, he was a pal and cordial no matter what side you were on.

He really had/ wanted no stake in the server's direction, so he stayed out of the politics of it. He wasn't a zergling, he wasn't vicious to people, and he wasn't ever consciously thinking about taking the easy road in game - he simply wanted to play Everquest with the bros that he knew best.

When the officers of Empire would move up a channel to divvy out loot, lots of warriors would send tells on nice stuff, and a lot of the time we'd be conflicted on who to give the items to - but more times than not, the consensus was that, coupled with his RA, Rygrim's attitude put him ahead of all the other warrior core. There must've been 5 or 6 different times where his personality alone was brought up to weigh in over a piece of loot. Most of you are probably aware that he got stacked in Empire, and his attitude was a big, big reason for it.

He was great pal and will be missed.

Kohl,

I want to take just a minute to let you know how bad it hurts that you are gone. We've played this god forsaken game together for over a decade and when r99 went live we formed the dynamic trio shody/Danlor/kable. I'll never forget diaper quest as long as we live or the countless hours we'd spend on team speak or texting about how nerdy we are playing on an elf sim for so long.

I hope you are resting well brother, I'll be down to carry you home soon. I want everyone to know kohl was that person whether he was playing rygrim or not. We loved him for being just the best of us. Till we meet again my bro, as always, I got you.

RL DOTS and unhealthy habit --

First off RIP to a solid person.

I read something from a RL pal of his that mentioned a unchecked health issue. Sadly, this is the reality for a lot of us. If you were in your early 20s in 99, you're 16 years older now and hitting a point in life where a visit to the doctor just might save it. I do not know the full extent of his illness but I will say that many if not all of us could benefit from an occasional check up at the Dr. office at this point in life.

Stay safe pals, there is nothing wrong with asking for help from people who dedicate their lives to making ours better.

Very well said and classy post by Gongshow. This isn't about EQ it is about another human being and his loved ones, and the connections you make with people independent of the sandbox we all chose to play in together.

Strongly recommend getting a Guide or GM to officiate and to provide summons and light organizational structure to the event. Alternatively Empire could consider running it. Making it a legit mini event similar to the Friday Night Fights would be very cool way to say goodbye and commemorate.

Would be nice if Moregan was still on staff for something community related like this. Or if Aussie wasn't an Aussie.

If you don't want to wait I'd understand. Staff may not be available.

There isn't any easy way to say something like this, but there isn't necessarily a lot of people in this world that ive never met in real life and only spent times in a teamspeak channel whose death would bring me to cry, it's easy to feel disconnected from the disembodied voices on your headset, but this is a person who you knew was truly a wonderful human being, not an ogre warrior or main tank or whatever, he was a fucking great human being and the world is a worse place with him gone, and having known him in anyway even as strange and fleeting as Teamspeak MMO buddies are was a privilege.

I cried and I miss him.

Rest In Peace

After 15 years of playing this game, and being a member in quite a few guilds, having met many wonderful players and friends.

Rygrim was by far the coolest one I had ever met, the most chill and friendly, all around good guy.

I think its possible he may have been the best person to have ever played this game... He certainly was the best that has played project 99.

Kunark era about 2 months prior to Velious. Was down in the basement with a group of pals camping remains for the VP key. Our group was full, Rygrim comes from nowhere and starts helping us dps from out of group. Dude was VP keyed for over a year and had no benefit to doing that. Just felt like helping. Chilled with us shooting the shit for over an hour before goin out to help other pals pvp at the zone-in.

I know its not much of an experience but dude was real cool. Thought I'd add that small thing to the list of generous things he did.

I voted nay on this based on the long list of people who have done 100x worse and have been plaguing and poisoning these forums for years while engaged in RMT, account stripping, account deletion, extortion, doxing, two boxing, and RL attacks. Often simultaneously.

Samwise reacted similarly on day 1, but because people like samwise or respect his "seniority" they won't call for his banning and that to me shows some type of bias among the playerbase when it comes to morality.

Color me very unimpressed with pumped's latest. "Fat shitbag". Not even worthy of a pity reply. HB summed it up well.

Sam toed the ban line, and I'm honestly surprised he wasn't. But it is no different than a typical justice system where people with long history of behaving themselves get off easier on a first time offense. Tomato is someone who literally nobody likes, and he posts nothing but staff/server bashes and personal attacks. Plus the fact that account was a forum ban evasion in the first place so even if he posted nothing but rainbows and unicorns he wasn't supposed to be here.

It is about time they started punishing people in game for forum nonsense though, assuming the staff cares at all about cleaning up the forums. The obvious problem is many of the forum trolls don't even really play anymore and even though I'm one of them maybe all of us just need to get banned or restricted to RNF only.

ya why would a thread about the death of a universally beloved player on this 200 pop server be a sticky on a forum for this 200 pop server. man that just makes no sense at all to me either.

Rygrim you will be sorely missed I hope there's some way to find and meet you in the next life dude, thanks for letting me borrow that cobalt BP for so long. Part of me wishes I still had it to have part of "you".I'm sure you are still a beacon of light where you are now as you were with so many on this server and surely moreso IRL. As I told you many times, you rock dude..see you again someday we will chat :* ]

:(

I'm sorry for your loss everyone.. Would've been a pleasure to know him. Teamspeak. His name does echo in my head from past scuffles and shenanigans between opposing guilds. Haven't played in a while, but will not forget Rygrim.

"Rygrim! Rygrim! Rygrim!" - The man was a target at the time, but also a boss!

Rest in Peace brother.

If memory serves me correctly, we have played together and/or against each other since live. Shody was guilded with me in Aerist, Rygrim in Defiant, and Kable in Aduentus (Aerist's rival guild)? (correct me if i'm wrong.)

When VZTZ came out, in I think 2007? I saw all of your familiar faces once again. Always good times with all of you... I also remember my cousin, Rystar (also a warrior who was in Defiant,) talking with you on several occasions and he always had good things to say about you.

What's awesome about VZ was that it was a server that was praised for it's "honorable pvp," and to my knowledge, most pvp servers didn't have that. We didn't attack people on mobs, shoot we waited for them to finish, didn't train, didn't trash talk (for the most part,) and were overall pleasant to each other. It's funny saying this, but, playing VZ from a younger age (in my mid 20's now,) I found myself to be a better person.

RIP Rygrim.

He was always helpful and never got involved in toxic forum bullshit. Will miss him.

how are the forums toxic? you could hit ignore or avoid posts/threads if you choose too. You know what you can't avoid? 300 people killing a single dorf for loot that's pretty toxic when there is 190 people max on this server.

of course some kid who has no grasp of reality and takes pictures of his garden and talks shit about dead people with no friends would think that talking trash is toxic.

you need to ban ingame for such things

give a signal and show that there is still effort being done here

Lite only served a 3 day ban for doing the same thing and bashing Rygrim directly. Samwise also did the same thing and said Kohl and his friends were drug addicts and the gofundme was a fraud created by a drug addict, nothing happened to him.

Pumped's ban is well over by now going by the same guidelines. If Samwise has done nothing wrong, neither has Pumped at this point.

And all three of those guys griefed off the server and don't play here. Takes a special kind of sickness to spend 8 hours on the forum a day bashing people and constantly talking shit.

yea true, they are so frustrated without outlet they lost any form of decency

really should perm-ban their ingame accounts, it would help the server and perhaps even these people who can't handle their ingame loss
