i am a cigarette smoker who wants to quick smoking. it's kinda funny, but i literally went on youtube and tried to find a video to hypnotize myself to quick smoking, which i only did because i was watching americas got talent at like 3AM, and someone hypnotized one of the judges.

anyways... other than just "quit", what tips do you former smokers have, or what helped you quit smoking?

BTW the self hypnosis didnt work rofl.

I've known several people who have been able to stop through a bunch of different methods. However not all of them quit forever.

I think the number 1 thing I've heard that would be the most helpful is to not be around others who smoke or if that's part of your day; walk outside for a smoke break with your smoking buddies, just eliminate that from your life completely. Fill it with something else.

If you really want to stop, you need to not be around it and fill that time with something that works for you.

Good luck,

i smoked for many many years. the way i quit was using vaporizers. i bought a really nice one that nilbog had suggested and vap'd my eyes out whenever i felt like smoking. i used the vaporizer with cigs for a few months. vaping at work /smoking at home. after a few months of doing that, i started replacing cigs at home with the vaporizer until i was only smoking like 2 or 3 cigs a day. After that, i started ordering the "lite" nicotene juice for my vapo, and starting dropping off from there. the whole process took probably a year or so, but I'm hardcore off cigs now. I can still smoke a pack here or there at the casino or parties or shit, but i'll never be a full-on smoker again.

ultimately, you need to be ready to quit. if you are not ready, you will not quit. I told myself I was ready to quit hundreds of times and always went back. You have to mean it to get the motivation to do it.

I vape. I'm not a cunt about it. That was what broke it for me. Otherwise I'd quit for a year or so and find my way back to it somehow (smoking that is).

Look at the book "the easy way to quit smoking" by Alan Carr. It's just the right amount of motivation.

Good luck.

Proof that there's still hope for the world... I know a few people who vape and it's like EQ players who have to tell you about their weed habits and why they're afk'ing again lol

It's a lifelong addiction. It sucks. I know older folks that have quit for 20+ years and would comment on how badly they would love to have a smoke when I would light up near them.

Once you're past the first 30 days it's all a matter of discipline. Making the conscious decision to have "just one" or sticking to your guns.

I have no discipline hence my vape crutch. :p

Vaping helped me quit cigs. I recommend getting a decent setup and starting your e-cig juice at 18mg nicotine, then gradually weaning yourself down.

I went from 18mg, to 12mg, and now I'm down to 6mg and go days without a nicotine craving. Haven't had a ciggy since the day I switched.

there are many different choices out there. whatever you do choose, make sure you get the liquid juice and not the cartridges. the liquid is so much better imo. i bought a "cigarette style" vapo my first time around. you inserted a nicotene cartridge and smoke it till it taste burned, then you replace it. that burned taste was awful as shit.

this is where i got mine and i loved it. lots of decent flavors. havn't been here since i quit tho, it looks like a lot of stuff has changed. check it out

Come spend a few days on my oncology unit and visit all of the lovely folks that smoked for 20+ years, who now have multiple lung lobectomies, a neat little chest tube drain they carry around to ambulate, and metastatic disease. It's a pretty strong deterrent let me tell you.

Laynes no fail methods to quit smoking

#1 Eat a pack of cigs

if that doesn't make you throw up every time you smell a cig burning try #2

#2 Eat a 30 day supply of nicorette gum in a few hours.

Note I am not a doctor and will not be held responsible for any nicotine over doses that might come from using these methods. Although I have herd first hand from someone who chewed nicorette gum like it was juicy fruit and never touched a cig since. Personally never tried to quit enjoy shorting my life and lives of others around me too much to give it up.

I havent fully quit, and never intended too, but I've gone from a peak of about a pack a day to less than a pack a month. I just enjoy certain cigarettes too much to want to fully quit. I like being able to smoke when I go out drinking, or sitting by the lake with a cold beer and a smoke in the summer. The early morning cigarettes during winter, or spazzing out cause I havent had one in hours is what I wanted to quit.

Anyway, what I did was bought a vape pen and kept smoking while I tried out different flavors and found one that I felt would work as a substitute. Then I slowly started replacing cigarettes with vaping. I originally quit smoking during working hours and would only vape. Then I just chose certain cigarettes I wanted to keep (morning with coffee, lunch, before bed) and replaced the rest with vaping. Over time I just scaled the smokes back - probably over 2-3 months.

I think one of the reason I wasnt able to quit before was because I tried to quit completely and then would beat myself up over getting blitzed and having a smoke at the bars. In the past year I've probably only smoked 4 or 5 packs, which is about what I used to go through in a week. I read a lot of BS about how if you have even one smoke after quitting that you failed. That mentality is retarded. Your goal should be progress, not perfection. Cutting back on one or two smokes that you normally would have had is progress, next shoot for 3 or 4. Rome wasnt built in a day, and you dont have to pick a "quit day" and then never smoke again.

Just start smoking less and figure out what works for you. Maybe going cold turkey is your thing and everything I have said is BS to you, but you wont know what works for you until you start trying. Dont make it a big deal, just do it, and if it doesnt take try again or try a different method. I tried patches, gum, some pill (not chantix), cold turkey, etc. It took awhile but eventually I was sick enough of most cigarettes I had and found something that worked for me. Now I've almost quit vaping too.

Also, I'd suggest not telling people youre quitting. Dont add that pressure. It is a trial and error thing, and youre provably going to relapse a couple times before it takes. You dont need friends and family nagging you about it if you decide to light up even though you had said you were gonna quit.

As far as vape juices go, I like Spacejam Eclipse, but almost no one else I know likes it, so idk if that is a great recommendation.

Good luck though.

It really all depends on if your addicted to nicotine or if you just need to satisfy your oral fixation as it was put by someone else. For me it was just a oral fixation so i quit smoking cigs cold turkey and replaced with chewing gum while working and just smoking more weed while i was at home. If its the nicotine that has you hooked just ween yourself off of it i guess.

take 5 cigs, smoke them 2 at a time to the filter, (make sure you taste the plastic) then, take the 5th one and empty to contents directly into your mouth. Chew on that shit while you use your fingertips to shred the butts up (make sure to really pick at the cotton in the filters, you dont want it clumpy for this next step) Once shredded, spit our the wad of tobacco you were chewing on and place to the side. Now take the shredded and burned butts of the 4 you smoked and refil the hollow 5th cig. Smoke the whole thing until you feel the cherry burn your lips. Take discarded wet tobacco wad and put it back in your mouth, chew for 5 more minutes and swallow. You will never smoke again in your life. Or, you could not take this advice and live the rest of your life as slavepussy

So... Maerilith, don't you think it's good that we live in a free country where people have the right to choose things like which gender they wanna be and have taxpayers foot the bill for sex reassignment surgeries? But cigarette smoking is clearly a problem in the conservative retard community and if we don't do something about it these people will actually have a choice in the matter. "That's not what America is supposed to be about! We need Hillary to take care of this shit for us!"

^^Are you fucking kidding me? Calling for shit to be banned here is kind of a slippery slope. Think about it. Because it's embarrassing how many people who benefit from living in a free country are such ingrateful stupid assholes deep down, no matter how much they cry on the outside for "freedom, equality, and everyone has the right to pursue happiness"...... then they go and say some fucked up shit about how we need an even bigger bloated nanny state.

Fuck off with that Hillary shit. Seriously.

So this is what they mean when they say nicotine is more addictive substance than opiates/heroin.

Most people without pre-existing conditions would be recovered in 2-3 months tops off a heavy year+ long daily narcotic habit.

this nicotine receptor shit is boggling to me. it seems to be easier to kick a cocaine habit too, I have zero experience with nicotine only what club friends from a decade ago have told me. They said the big stuff was cold turkey no problem, drugs A to Z they were able to pick up and drop, even the hard stuff. None of them successfully got of off their nicotine habit and were equally baffled as I was hearing about it. And I do mean none of them.

Nicotine is an underrated little beast, to be certain.

Maerilith, I actually like you as a person and would honestly feel bad if I offended you. Sometimes I come across harsher than I intend to. I feel like I've gotten to know you a tiny bit from a couple of our PM conversations and I think you're a pretty decent person.

However, I still stand by my nanny-state bloated-government comments because I feel strongly about keeping the government the fuck out of our personal lives by banning shit that's bad for us. It's been done before and was an utter failure. (Prohibition, anyone?). Obviously smoking is stupid and it kills people, but so many things could fall into that category it would be ridiculous to attempt to make a difference by "banning" anything.

I probably wouldn't have gotten annoyed enough to respond to the whole "ban cigarettes" comment if I wasn't so fucking crabby from not being able to eat or get any real sleep for the better part of a week. To make a long story as short as possible... my tooth broke in half, nerve exposed, massive infection developed, first antibiotic fails, swelling & pain intensifies, second antibiotic giving me nausea, and Vicodin ES is a weenie-ass pain killer.

I wish I could fall into a coma and wake up all better in a week. This shit is worse than giving birth. Not even kidding.

In my line of work there is a big stigma attached to smoking. It can affect your voice and looks, and if anyone thinks you are doing it you are seen in a different light when looking for work, even if it hasn't had that big an effect yet.

Even Michael Richards smoking cigars on the set of the show for a scene was considered rather scandalous on set and in the community of TV people, and he has obviously had some hard times since then.

Two things that helped me to quit. Candy to suck on as has been suggested already (I used lemon drops). Also, stay physically active. When the cravings are driving you crazy get off your ass and do something physical. Work out or something.

That was probably more feasible for me than for some because I live on a farm. I was cutting firewood and doing repairs I had put off and stuff like that pretty intensely for a couple of weeks until the cravings subsided to a less maddening level.

But for full disclosure I have to admit that after two years nicotine free I got re-addicted. I was stressing out about some stuff and a friend who smokes was around and I took a cigarette from him, bad mistake. For like six or seven months I was able to keep it down to just a smoke or two on the weekends but it gradually increased until I was fully hooked again. Now I'm sucking on chaw instead of smoking but it's still nicotine. Gonna have to go through it all again at some point.

I'm 2+ years smoke-free. I did it by vaping. I put the smokes down and that was that. Yo have to be READY to quit, though.

You don't need fancy gear; a simple Ego-T kit (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R7.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xeg o+t.TRS0&_nkw=ego+starter+kit&_sacat=0) (1100 mah) and a decent juice is all you need. Personally, I like Mount Baker (https://www.mtbakervapor.com/electronic-cigarette-nicotine-juice/) juices; as a beginner I'd recommend a 50/50 mix and 18mg nicotine.

I liked it so much I started my own vape shop. I started back to college last semester so I sold the business at a tidy little profit. So trust me when I say you don't need great gear...you just need something to get you off the cigarettes. I still use my standard Ego-T and Ce4 tanks. I didn't replace an expensive habit with an expensive hobby.

EDIT: I breathe better, feel better, and look better. I sleep better. I don't smell like an ashtray. My doctor told me to keep doing what I'm doing...there doesn't seem to be any ill effects after 2 years of vaping and my lungs are as pink as they were the day I was born. You can listen to the naysayers or try it and see if it works for you. Vaping may not be risk-free but it's a damn sight better than those nasty cigarettes.

This is exactly what I did. I grabbed a triton tank, but any decent tank kit with replaceable cartomizers works.

I too use 18mg and mtbakervapor has probably the best variety of cheap juice. I buy the big ass bottle, and that + cartos are still a fraction of the price of cigarettes. Tastes and smells better too.
