View Full Version : Is there a consensus on pet weapons?

Hi,

I know this topic has been brought up and discussed numerous times, but when going through the older threads I'm not sure whether or not the information is outdated. Particularily interested in charmed pets, but I guess same goes for summoned pets. Not taking proccing weapons into account to keep it simple.

My perception of how it works today is this:
1) Weapons WILL increase max damage of the pet ONLY IF the weapon given to the pet has a dmg that is greater than 50% of the pet's max damage without any weapon. Naturally, this is only possible to utilize at low levels. Example: A pet that hits for 32 without weapon, will hit for 40 with a 20dmg weapon.
2) Giving the pet 2x 1handers will NOT force dual wield for a pet that doesn't dual weild initially, neither will a torch. Torch worked to do this earlier but was changed this year.

I know that many people are still giving torches to pets, why are they doing that? Am I the one having it all wrong? Assuming the pet already hits for ~100 will giving it weapons/torches increase DPS?

Cheers,

I am only going to comment about the torch.

Pets you charm that have the ability to dual wield; torches WILL work. I know this for a fact. I suggest you carry a bag of torches if you are going to be doing charming. If you give 2 torches to a pet, YES it does increase over all dmg output.

Thanks for your answer Dafier! I agree that pets will use torches as a weapon if they have the ability to dual wield. What I am not so sure about is 1) whether the pet will dual wield (not just equip) with a torch if it doesn't initially dual wield and 2) if the torch/weapon will increase the pet's DPS (assuming that it already dual wields).

So if it has the ability to dual wield, it will attack normally with the off-hand. However what I've noticed is if it has weapons in both hands or torches, the damage output is significantly higher

torch still works for sure.

Does this work only with a torch or can you simply hand the pet 2 one-handed weapons to make them duel wield?

2 weapons work. The torch is secondary only so you only have to give them 1

Wait. Did torches ever not work? Or were they nerfed, then un-nerfed? Or did someone just spread a rumor that torches got nerfed cause they were jelly about charm-killing being so OP.

Even thought it's secondary, charmed pets still dual wield them.

It's been confirmed

the reason this question comes up is because of the june 11, 2015 patch notes

"Haynar: A pet will no longer dual wield if they are handed a non-weapon item like a torch."

Exactly. This is what makes me wonder.
