So....

2/3rds of working adults in America are either overweight or obese.

What do you think those numbers are on R99?

Most people on red are young, not even adults yet, I would say red99 fat population would be 10% or less.

Last year, I was brutally assaulted by 4 men in the
downtown area at an hour I should have probably been
home. This attack was unprovoked and left me with a severe
concusion, broken nose, a split face, head and worst of all a
dislocated knee which tore all 4 of my ligaments in my knee.
This included severe damage to the ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL
as well as meniscus. The damage was so bad that I almost
lost my leg due to vital blood vessels being disrupted. The
attackers fled the scene and witnesses could not get a good
description besides them being in jeans and driving a big
pickup truck. I filed a police report at the hospital and was
released before being diagnosed with my leg injury. I sat in
extreme pain for an entire month before I could have an MRI
performed by the Veteran's hospital at Mather AFB. It was
then I was informed of the severity of my injury and risk of
possibly losing that leg.

Honestly, even the weasel is considered "overweight" using the American standard - anything 25+ BMI. Also, BMI does not consider how the weight is distributed.

Ronnie Coleman has a 41.4 BMI in this pic http://www.scientificpsychic.com/fitness/bmi2.jpg

Also, I'd consider a chick in the "middle normal" (22BMI) fat and needing a boob job:

I like how everyone condemns BMI because it "doesn't take into account muscle mass". Stupid excuse for fat people.

If you have a lot of muscle mass, you aren't concerned about your BMI...you're concerned about body fat%...and you're eating insanely healthy and lifting religiously 3-5 times a week.

Getting below 10% for a dude is a major commitment...and only then do you start having the BMI being high for your weight.

Then you also know guys claiming to be 10% or less are all lying.

Forum warriors frequently claim 8-10% body fat in their pics while at 12-15% BF. The FAT look doesn't start until you get a few clicks over 15%, depending on other appearance factors like skin thickness/texture and water retention, and becomes legit fatass status at 18% and over.

This is assuming good genetics. Someone could have 13-15% and look like shit, and another guy could be rocking solid abs.

Sound fat. While yes, there are far better methods of determining body fat, calipers and underwater for example, my point was the scale to determine obesity isn't flawless - please continue to put everyone in a box. Even the military uses a similar flawed metric and will measure tape you for being over height/weight ratio.

JboxCSU

99% of the time they are lying. You aren't single digit body fat and playing EQ regularly. Way too much time needs to be invested...not only in the gym, but in the kitchen.

EQ fat is easily determined though...

Seltius

I have only met a few people who were actually single digit body fat. I never got below low double digits even in my prime. If you're in single digits normally then a doctor has probably suggested different ways to eat to try and put on weight. Even professionals don't remain in single digits all the time if at all. Like someone above posted you can look amazing and still not be in single digits. I am referring to body fat % btw not BMI. BMI has always been flawed.

And yes the tape tests the military uses were flawed recruiters used to and may still tell people to do things like dehydrate, suck in, or use diuretics to help pass the tape tests. Some of that is also true for caliper tests.

Do not take my post as negative towards anyone I would never call someone else fat nor any other derogatory term.

Not fat.

My point is people who whine about BMI being a bad metric are just looking for an excuse. BMI works just fine for the vast majority of the population.

It gets laughably bad in taller people.

I am 6'2 and the BMI says I can be 150 pounds before I'm underweight, which demonstrates the absolute failure of using the BMI index to determine anything to do with appearance or health. Kinda irresponsible of the military and health organization to religiously follow this system that everyones eyes can see doesn't work. A healthy weight for me is about 215 pounds and I need to be 225 to be "average" musculature of a 5'7-5'10 guy. I prefer 240. My doctor one year dubbed me underweight at 200 pounds and said he would be looking to see some gains next year.

tl;dr BMI index is trash and has nothing to do with bodyfat or shape unless youre a manlet. Calipers also junk.

I'd be willing to bet at 6'2 240lbs your bf% is high.

If it's low, you are absolutely JACKED. When competing, Arnold (also 6'2) was at about 230lbs. You ain't Arnold bro.

Edit - low bf% being in the teens or lower.

Oh yeah ofc completely different weight distributions I am definitely 15% or so at 230. I don't resemble any bodybuilder no matter what weight I am at. I'm either a refridgerator, or really skinny, theres not much inbetween in a lot of taller guys because its hard to get that mass on the arms when you have a natural 40 inch waist (no fat all hips and structure) and a barrel ribcage detracting from it. I need to be heaver to look athletic and thick. Basically I'm a very lanky guy that got stuck with a thick core and this is where the BMI shows disturbing flaws.

Arnold had 5'7 muscle density at 6'2, that's why he won titles and was such an icon and freak. Not everyone can have popcorn muscles even if you use sauce heavily. Genetics are genetics and if popcorn arms and delts aren't in the cards, they aren't in the cards.

That Nocsucow guy on the forums here is a good example of the type of arms I like to have if you've seen his pics, and I only start to have that kind of arm size at 230+.

Point is, BMI would say I am obese at 220, when a TRT doctor who examined me declared I was very skinny at 200 pounds after measuring my structure and feeling around my back.

BMI says I'm good down to 150...That is pretty terrifying and that's why I posted my example.

People are just happier when they are not fat. I blame lack of exercise and extreme amounts of cortisol for most of the constant rage by earlier posters.

That being said. I am proud to be 4'11.5, 130lbs with the muscle density of Gary Coleman.

That might be the least useful reference example ever.

I cannot for the life of me imagine what kind of muscle density Gary Coleman had.

Unless you consider your musculature to be 5 years decomposed, which is still baffling to picture.
