View Full Version : Ranger - Panic Animal soloing?

My Ranger is now level 31 and I'm looking for good places to solo. All of the existing guides do not include information on using Panic Animal. I know that it works on Snow Cougars, and I've considered heading to Iceclad to try that out.

What other spots/mobs are good for Panic Animal soloing up to 50?

Tigeraptors and tigersaurous in WL near the skyshrine zone sometime in the 40's. I'm not sure what level you could start without getting too many resists on the tigersaurous. By level 50 you're going to have too many greens (some with no exp) to be efficient.

check druid charm guides, go to said zone, fear animals instead of charming!

Snow cougars are a good start, they drop a nice pair of earrings if you haven't sorted that slot out already.

It takes about fifty kills per level 31-33 there.

You may also want to try Mammoths in Everfrost, the xp won't be as good I imagine, but the drop good cash loot.

I'd do mammoths in EF to about 33 or whenever they green out, then do snow cougs in IC until about 38. At that point I did the dire wolves by EW bridge in IC until 42-44. They seem to go down a lot easier than anything in EW with a lot less danger of adds. After that you can try walrus by Kael in EW or go to Wakening and kill tigeraptors at SS zl.

Once you get 45 you can go to COM and if you can't get a group, go solo monkeys and various other animals in EJ. I'm 49 now and there are still a lot of blues but a lot of roaming shit there that sucks so be sure to pull to zone walls.

Alligators in the tunnel between the two "pools" in Cazic Thule. Rarely camped and great exp. Outdoors zone so SoW and Harmony works as well. Once you have broken the camp it is a great fear-kite camp for a ranger.

31-37 doable here. Just did it myself.

you will find it very hard not to run out of mana during these fights.the fear is very short duration. the mobs have alot of hps.....a good haste item will help alot. low wis and no haste =recipe for tears.

Panic animal is like 10 mana. just hit sit/stand between a few swings and you'll get lucky and med it back faster than you exhaust it.

Tolan's gaunts is mana free snare. Panic animal is 10 mana. You need to harmony to break the static spawns, but then you don't even need that. If you learn to time your fears, you should take very little damage. The named raptor does have some hp, but even he shouldn't really pose a problem to an upper 40's ranger. Mid 40's might have too many resists to handle him though.

I've been trying to get some HQ tundra Kodiak pelts in EW. Snow cougars, tundra Kodiaks, mammoths, walrus and wooly rhinos are all animals. Wooly rhinos and snow griffons are just going green at 54 and easy kills.

I'm jealous you get to solo like that. 1 - 60 face tanking was interesting though.

aye but opening poster was talking about doing this 30+

tried a few mobs in ew at 34 i think, and found it to be waste of time....too many hps/resists.

have to confess i havent tried again now am 45.....most my exp is done with either rogue or shm. guess i should give it a whirl tho...

You should check out Iceclad near Tower of Frozen Shadows at 34. Everything on track is dark blue, plenty of snow cougars with tiny hp pools and snow guardians.

Cougars are decent at 31 but not omfgamazing. The social agro isn't fun but that's the case pretty much anywhere. I found it was safer to fear kite on the side far side of the first island, past ToFS and opposite the docks. The cougars path through the dock area way too much for my liking.

I didn't find myself running out of mana even not having access to clickies but I guess that may vary with your gear setup. Ranger had an FBSS, Springwood stave and other misc items and did pretty well. Pull with snare, panic animal.. chase the mob and recast when necessary. You can throw a DoT on the mobs if you want to increase the speed but it gets less efficient that way.

Yeah I tried Cougars but HHK guards were still way faster.

I found the 'beach' near the gnolls, close to the tofs zoneline safe kite spot for cougars.

Takes about 50 kills per level for low 30s.

Like ChiefRocka I found using stinging swam just meant I had to take med breaks (time spent not melee DPSing) so I advise only to use DOTs it if you are anticipating a break anyway.

Edit: cougars seemed to take a while to kill for me, are they really such low hp for the level? I figured oldworld stuff would be much faster!

Velious mobs have higher HP than old work / kunark. At least thats what I recall

Having tried this out now, I agree with everything said here. My gear isn't as good as all that, but what I do have is sufficient.

Being careful to pull to a spot free of adds is critical.

Gator tunnel in caricature is definitely doable starting at 30 or 31. Once you break first three gators you can fear kite them from the spawn points of the first 2 static spawns. harmony is your friend here

I did Tigers in OT from roughly 40-46. Throw in Rhinos too. Less HP then Velious mobs too.

did a yellow here at 45, went quite well. limiting factor was mana as normal! sometimes found enc hanging about the sf ramp.

one downside is getting a cocatrice add, which isnt an animal, made the pulling more complicated.

Maybe i failed to find the sweet spot to pull from? all the mobs seem to wander about completely randomly....prob some set pathing in there, but i failed to work it out.

is there a spot where tigers spawn; i assume the spawn points are all randomly distributed. only tried pulling in the sw...between the ramp and the zone to FM. Didnt try further east.

I think theres an even distribution of tigers from fm to outpost wall. Part of being a ranger is running through fields of mobs and cherry picking what you want off track at 300 range and getting it back to a safe spot. Just work on your awareness. Be in third person. Track with your eyes as well. Invis before the pull can help. Practice that skill in OT. It'll keep you alive in TT and WW.

Otherwise use your pull fuck ups to practice crowd control. Not like youre getting groups to learn it.

I used to fear kite solo my rogue alt in the middle of FV. THAT was some fun exping.

IIRC some fear/snared mobs you can keep up with while sneaking (might require diagonal running?). Doing so might help reduce adds, though may be more of a bother than it is worth.
