Tried to get immersed in Velious but quickly got burnt out by there being no challenge, the intensive raid schedule and pressure to be 100% or close to it with RA. In Nihilum, having 70% RA + meant you were a neckbeard, in Empire, 70% was the equivalent of being inactive status.

218 raids / 61 days = 3.57377 raids per day.

If we are generous and say that each raid only took 1 hour that would be 17.5 (70%) to 25 (100%) hours a week spent raiding for enough raid attendance to guarantee you'd get the pixels you want in a timely fashion.

That applies to maybe EQ but not to other MMO's such as WoW and FF14. There are mechanics in place and due to raid caps you can't simply zerg a mob.

Also I never intended my point about RA to be a knock on people who raid a lot. It's a video game. I don't care how people spend their free time. I was just making an observation that for myself it was difficult to keep up with everyone and it burned me out.

You guys blew nihilum out of the water in kunark era raid attendance. They didnt even do ragefire nexona or hoshkar all the time, nor did they have 80 people participating. Shit, xygoz and druushk and silverwinng often stayed up for days..


Having a hard time following. Checkraise knows raiding...Empires raid devotion is unprecedented. Dont shy away, if your gonna do something be the best at it...or at least do it the most, since blue are the better raiders.

My personal opinion is that Empire raids a ton more than Nihilum did. This is a result of several factors, one being that there's simply a shit load more stuff to raid than there was in Classic/Kunark. Nihilum was able to knock out every mob in the game in 5-6 hours in Kunark one day a week, and then it was just Trakanon every 3 days for the suckers who showed up to that. Velious has tons of long tedious raids and clearing and pulling that simply require more time raiding.

Empire does "go harder" in my opinion as well though. This is because they have multiple officers who are capable of leading raids and pick up raids whereas in Nihilum, if Nizzar wasn't online or didn't feel like doing something, it wasn't going to happen period.

I also don't think I agree with the point that RA is easier to get in Empire, on the contrary, in Nihilum you just had to show up one day a week to hit every mob in the game other than 2 Trak's during the week. I don't recall ever really doing Vox or Nagafen in Nihilum once the level cap restriction was put in place, it turned into an optional /random for loot mob.

Classic will always be my favorite era with the constant PvP, somewhat equal fights, and great ForumQuest. Velious was the least fun I had of any part of P99's history.

This is a result of several factors, one being that there's simply a shit load more stuff to raid than there was in Classic/Kunark. Nihilum was able to knock out every mob in the game in 5-6 hours in Kunark one day a week, and then it was just Trakanon every 3 days for the suckers who showed up to that. Velious has tons of long tedious raids and clearing and pulling that simply require more time raiding.

Empire does "go harder" in my opinion as well though. This is because they have multiple officers who are capable of leading raids and pick up raids whereas in Nihilum, if Nizzar wasn't online or didn't feel like doing something, it wasn't going to happen period.

I also don't think I agree with the point that RA is easier to get in Empire, on the contrary, in Nihilum you just had to show up one day a week to hit every mob in the game other than 2 Trak's during the week. I don't recall ever really doing Vox or Nagafen in Nihilum once the level cap restriction was put in place, it turned into an optional /random for loot mob.

Classic will always be my favorite era with the constant PvP, somewhat equal fights, and great ForumQuest. Velious was the least fun I had of any part of P99's history.

If I gave up all my free time which should be family time I'd be like 50th for the melee's and like ranked 16th among the monks.

Velious brought about the ability to take up raiding as a second job in order to have a crazy gear advantage over your enemy. To some people fighting people with half your HP is considered fun, I never got that.

Now you got hardcore PVE'rs like Checkraise who got burnt out by the Empire raid schedule. On the other hand, you got people like Colgate rocking 100% raid attendance over a 3 month window followed by 10 month of Kunark work hours farming.

In addition to that, it became very clear to me that many players who used to love PVP because in Kunark there was literally nothing better to do, have had their flame toned down due to the million available quests.


Aside from me coming back which I won't do, this server will remain an extension of blue.

The egos on VZTZ were much more resilient to taking big losses in skirmish and mass pvp.

Idk why but red99 resistance post-Nihilium evaporated, maybe too much reliance on Lite and the shallow <Azrael> leadership. Depression? Balding? Early mid-life crisis?

Definitely more fragile folk compared to the Nihilium era and VZTZ even more so. People loved crooting and contesting on VZTZ.

Thats pretty intense. I was ~75% + ~8% on alts until I had to afk for RL after first Vulak kill. Not sure how my 90 day RA became 18% 60 days after velious...

The Emp raid scene is very intense as far as RA, but participation is also high and highly motivated. Looking at these numbers I would call into question the source of your information. I believe the RAs across the board were probably much higher

Bah I don't care I will take you on Fandango anytime! I will more than likely lose but as proven time and again I have fun doing so. For some of us its not about ranks or score on a leaderboard. Its about the fun we have and the friends we have/make here.

I enjoy being able to go home from work during the week and if I don't feel like going to hang out with friends(a lot of the time during week) I just jump online to hang with other friends online for a few hours. Its neat being able to talk to people that may be in places or see things that I haven't and may never see.

Darkdeath has an excuse because he's new to eq pvp, but come on, i landed a clinging darkness on a level 60 kerwin. All bias aside I would have ranked him in the bottom 6 for TMO, he pvp's somewhat often but is one of the largest punching bags i've ever seen.

I think we have some pretty good pvpers in our guild for being as new to the server as we are but then I am relatively new. Also in the scheme of pvp and ego/arrogance I am a nonfactor(happily so)

Thing is, in Kunark you could still PVP a BIS player while wearing some more casual gear. Velious brought about the ability to take up raiding as a second job in order to have a crazy gear advantage over your enemy. To some people fighting people with half your HP is considered fun, I never got that.

The Velious gear advantage is huge no doubt, but Kunark gear can still hold up against it. Especially with a few of the attainable Velious pieces.

At the moment the only guild getting Velious BIS gear is absolutely loaded with blue players outside of a small core of decent pvpers. So most the gear is wasted anyway when it comes to pvp.
