The wizard ward line of spells such as Diamond Skin and Steelskin are not absording spell damage. In fact they seem to specifically only absord melee dmg.

Same goes for Enchanter Runes.

I've been taking AOE damage regularly in Kedge without my rune ever fading.

bump....they absorbed both types of damage on live. It wasn't until Protection of Calrena (which actually stacked) did we have one specifically for spell absorption.

Also note - Leatherskin, Steelskin, etc did NOT absorb DoT damage. Only DD spells, and melee damage.

I don't remember that line of spells aborbing spell damage, but admittedly I could be mistaken. I thought spellshield was the first spell to prevent any spell damage (that a wizard could cast).

Like I said, I could be wrong, but I think I would remember it preventing spell damage since I played on a pvp server and pretty much had to run around fully buffed at all points to survive :)

They did absorb all damage.

Edit: Excluding dots which bypassed them.

Ya I played PvP also and they absorbed all damage except DoTs. When I would fight a NEC, they usually would load DoTs then Lifetap. Only problem is by the time they start to Lifetap, theyre at 30% life and my Steelskin would absorb the lifetap thus NOT giving them life. They die, I dispell the DoTs and I'm left alive at 50-60% becuz the Skin would absorb the DD (Lifetap) but NOT the DoT.

Bump, because of this bug we can't rune/manastone as we used to be able to on live

I had my diamondskin absorb a modrod once on here. That's the only time it has absorbed any type of spell damage. So I'm guessing it's semi coded in or not checked properly.

Rune also does not currently absorb damage from lava (spell damage, I guess?). I'm nearly positive that it did absorb lava damage on live.

This mechanic is one of the reasons the wizard epic is so hot. A near 800 point rune that absorbs manastone damage.

I don't know if Alla comments are good enough, but if there are, then go here and find "manastone" on the page.

True this. ^^

One of the bard songs does currently absorb a portion of spell damage I noticed when using a modrod.

Buummp......also - something I noticed yesterday is that if a mob attacks you and you have a damage shield on AND Rune up - the mob does not hit by the damage shield. This is not how it should work - if I mob hits you (regardless of whether or not it casues physical damage) it should get hit by the dmg shield.

10 months later....bump.

Some kind of response would be nice - especially seeing how Venril Sathir's primary kill tactic involves this very problem and Kunark is inc shortly. :)

I can't recall if it absorbed spell damage in classic, but it definitely absorbed in kunark for VS. In fact it completely negated a mob's ability to proc (i.e. VS lifetap) as long as the rune was up. That mechanic wasn't "fixed" (changed) until much, much later when they finally made procs happen despite the melee hits being absorbed.

It absorbed spells in Classic - I played during classic as a WIZ on Tallon Zek - it was an important buff to have :)

It needs to be fixed before Kunark. It's a major spell line that is used to beat some encounters.
