Still seein' red.
What's a full list of classes who have this or related problems? Paladin/Shadow knight (defense), Druid (track)....some others that I forget off the top of my head.

Rangers - Red stats
1HB - 240
1HS - 240
2HS - 240
Offense - 240

Dodge - 137
Parry - 185
These are the *level 50 caps* for Dodge and Parry, It was patched to "fix this here" http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84308 but didnt seem to work.
Defense isnt red as of right now but could have sworn ive seen it red recently.
The Offensive stuff will be or should have already been patched for Velious. Ive seen randomness during Velious of these skills not being red and skills going up.
As for the parry / dodge thing this has been the case for years on this server, and though i dont run logs all the time. When I was playing my ranger a lot i can personally vouch that there is a night and day difference and not just a "UI" bug when it came to having your parry dodge at the correct 60 cap vs the lvl 50 cap.

Haven't read through all this, but Paladin defense wasn't same as warriors until Feb 21, 2001 patch. So working as intended?

Again today @ 252 defense skill in Toxx/Erudin. Did not check it in Warrens/Stonebrunt/Paineel/Hole. After being ported to mainland, defense was back in the red.

Can this please just be hardcoded? A year and half of taking unnecessary damage really stinks. This is the highest replied thread and a bug that impacts a very significant number of players who worked hard to gear their toons directly plus tons of other people raiding/grouping with them.

Wierd thing is even as a level 59 SK, I either have 227 defense (230 is max) or 252 Defense

You guys are really noisy, diluting the useful posts with pointless bumps. It is on the staff radar:
Don't take this the wrong way because all the effort is appreciated, but I wonder how some of these things get prioritized over hybrid defense bug which is by far the most responded to active bug?
Its on my list. I did not code the changes affecting it, so need to learn how it works first.
For the record a similar issue affects bind wound skill caps between 20 and 51 for hybrids, warriors and rogues (perhaps other classes too, but these are the ones I am aware of), and ranger skill caps for dodge/parry.

Should affect those too.
Hopefully it will get hotfixed this week with the bugfix for world tradeskill containers.

Visiting Cobalt Scar STILL fixes the UI side of things but if the defense bug was real there is no way the offense stats are any different. Confirming what Jimjam is seeing.

Thank you Haynar for patching the Knight Defence skill bug!
You mentioned you hoped it would fix other skill cap bugs, but unfortunately some still remain.
The bug I refer to is where a skill shows up in the skill window as lower than it should be and in red font.
Non-monk melees have this bug emerge for bind wound from level 20 to level 50. Some time in Velious the max skill for these classes during these levels got raised from 100 to a value higher than 100, but the game does not always recognise this.
Rangers I have noticed are also affected by this bug. From what I can ascertain, their skill caps should be 250 for weapons/offence at level 60, but the red displayed value is 240). Similarly Parry and dodge display as 185 and 137 where they should be 220 and 170.
Regarding knights, at this stage in the time line should their defence skill scale up during the 40s? I have a 48 shadow knight and his defence is still displayed in red at 200.
In addition to the Cobalt Scar 'fix', you can also visit a guild trainer to check the 'overcapped' skill values using their skill training window. Note this only works on trainable skills (so not offence/defence) and does not correct the value in the regular skill window.
I hope these observations are useful for any further work done on the issue!

Recently skills have been showing up in white for the ranger (even dodge/parry which have been broken just about forever).
I'm watching the issue to see if they slip back into red again.

Opening the client from scratch has the following skills in red for a level 60 ranger:
1H Blunt - 240 (sets to 250 upon zoning to Cobalt Scar)
1H Slashing - 240 (sets to 250 upon zoning to Cobalt Scar)
2H Blunt - 240 (sets to 250 upon zoning to Cobalt Scar)
2H Slashing - 240 (sets to 250 upon zoning to Cobalt Scar)
Alcohol Tolerance - 252 (not sure why this one is red but it is)
Defense - 200 (this one gets changed in last patch to 220 so this one makes sense)
Dodge - 137 (sets to 170 upon zoning to Cobalt Scar)
Offense - 240 (sets to 252 upon zoning to Cobalt Scar)
Parry - 185 (sets to 220 upon zoning to Cobalt Scar)
Riposte - 150 (this one gets changed in last patch to 185 so this one makes sense as well)
The interesting thing is ANY character loading into Cobalt Scar will fix the issue for my ranger. I can park a level 30 wizard on a separate account, log him out, and log in the ranger in West Freeport and the skills are fixed.
Also, as long as the client stays active (you don't exit out), the skill bug never reappears. Once you exit out completely you have to log something back in to Cobalt Scar.

41 Shaman: Dodge in Red @75
Last Night I was at Alteration 210 in Red. This morning upon log in the skill is back to white.
I see other posters in thread mention seeing a guild hall, or logging into cobalt scar. This toon has done neither since this started, and reverted..IE Alteration from red to white. I have been sitting in DL at the Yeti Caves since yesterday. To be fair, I don't know how long this has been happening, as I just started noticing yesterday evening, playing my shaman after a few month long break and glancing at various skill levels.

Started up my computer and logged in to EQ this morning and
1hs, offence down to 240 (my other weapon skills aren't close to cap anyway), parry down to 185, dodge down to 137. Level 60 ranger.
Last night I had a few deaths, went down to 59 then rezzed back up to 60. Not been to cobalt scar since then.
Logging into a wizard parked in CS (on a different account) then switching back to the ranger (without closing the client) fixed the issue. Offence back to 252, 1hs 250, parry 220, dodge 170.

Indeed, game is functionally unplayable without functioning alcohol tolerance!

It seems to fix on zones other than CS now.
Booted up game just now, logged in at Great Divide, red 230, zoned into Eastern Wastes, 252.

Yeah, I kind of wish the effect that occurs in CS that always resolves the issue could be applied to the other raid zones at this point.

Still having this issue in several zone...it's strange when I zone into Dreadlands I'm red capped at 218...I'll zone into KC and it goes to 240...zone back out to DL and its 240 again...what is going on?!

So as you knights may well know, you can fix your defense by zoning into CS. However its a pain to find a port to CS before starting your session just to be at the AC level you're supposed to be at. Not to mention now your in CS, now you need a port back. And if you get DCed you need to restart the process over again. I have found that you can log in an alt parked in CS on your same account, then log into your paladin or SK and your defense is repaired. You can log out and back in and the defense should also stay repaired until you exit your account. Its a temporary fix so that you dont have to be at a 57ac deficit. Just leave a toon in CS and log them in & out to repair the ac.

Yep, I've had a toon logged in CS just for this purpose for months. Helps bards as well as knights with the AC bug. The difference is, bards go down to 210 with the bug instead of 230 for knights. Logging a toon parked there fixes this.

So I just heard about this... is this really a thing still? Any chance of a fix, so I don't have to make a "cobalt scar skill-fixer" toon?
My main is a bard, and I just rolled a pally 3rd/4th alt, so this is definitely taking its toll...
Is it rmt of we offer haynar money to prioritize this issue? It is the most pressing issue the box currently faces.

Western Wastes also works on and off in terms of fixing the bug. It didn't work for a couple weeks but then just started working again.
Also it affects Ranger's offensive abilities. All 1hs/1hb/2hs/2hb/offense skills go red until you zone in to CS/WW.

54 Bard: Defense sometimes shows red 200 and AC is lower, sometimes shows 220 and AC is higher. Have seen red 200 and normal 220 in the same zones, so this appears to be some sort of bug unrelated to a specific zone, but it does affect your current defense skill and AC. I have seen red 200 in the skills page and my AC did not go up when I got 218, 219 and 220 defense skill(ups) but when I logged off and came back later, my AC was showing higher and defense was 220.
I get the same thing with a 47 SK. Sometimes I have red 200 defense and sometimes I have 210 defense and it does affect my AC.
Sometimes zoning fixes it, sometimes logging out works, sometimes /q and going back in fixes it, sometimes getting a ride to WC fixes it and sometimes none of these changes it from 200 red and lower AC value. I have noticed this mainly when I realize something that I can normally easily tank is pounding on me. I have seen bard song skills also red capped at 200 and it may just be bias, but it seems like I miss more notes then also.

53 monk Hand to hand skill is in RED as 231, but the skill increased to 234 via skill up messages.

Weird my H2H now shows 234 and no more red. Have not been to cs or anything. Had the issue for the last few days and persisted through log ins and outs. Today I log in and it's gone.

Yes, although it seems less common since a strange server reboot last week, I have seen the occasional red skill cap on SK and bard for defense both come and go in velious, kunark and antonica.

May have found an easier work around. Log onto an alt in EC, camp, and without leaving character select log onto my Paladin and it appears to fix the defense bug. I've tried it several times over several days and it has worked each time, at least for me. Hope this helps.

This is a display issue only. Your skills are still levelling up and staying there. AC Will also not be reported correctly on the client if it thinks your defense skill is capped at a lower point than the servers.

Big man, independent of if you would implement this or not, is it possible to make a custom command like /skilltree or /ac that would send your proper skill level and ac from the server to your chat window? May cut down on confusion.
