Not classic - should only be spawnable by the later Shawl quests.

Proof?

Proof?
Won't find any evidence either way. If Dain popped on a ring war failure you'd think it be mentioned somewhere on the internet.
It doesn't make sense for him to spawn on a failure - otherwise people would have been failing them on purpose just for Dains. Which is an easy way to grief Thurgadin bankers/quest givers/merchants/etc and you lose nothing by failing.

This isn't an easy fix due to the systems in place to completely depop/repop thurgadin.
We're working on a solution.

People didn't grind as hard as they do on P99 for killing raid mobs.
Sentry should be a 3-day respawn, so its not farm, you're getting double the dain pops, not that incredible.
I'll get on live now and kill Dain if he is up, if not I will spawn war and see if he respawns on death.

Sentry is currently a 1 day spawn, not 3. If that is wrong, need evidence etc.

Since this is just a 'My thoughts' thread. I don't mind giving mine.
Dain's repop is classic. Where's the proof that it's not. NOW, if staff wants to change that, then OK.

So I went and killed Dain on live (he didn't drop any spells which I found odd), and then I went outside to fail a ring war... Sentry Baddain wasn't up.
I'll check again tonight and see what the deal is with failing a ring war.

This is an unfair assessment. Live does not equal P99. If going off memory I can tell you that I recall people attempting ring war during classic, then trying again a couple hours later. There was one weekend in particular where there were 4 or more Ring Wars on Saturday and Sunday.
However...I do not recall whether Dain respawned or not.

I didn't assess anything yet? Or do you mean to suggest Live isn't useful for determining any mechanics?

Live is useful to a certain point.
More than anything Dal, this particular situation seems like it's already being thought about by P99 staff. From what I read they are trying to figure out how to keep the current happening without having Dain spawn.
We can all give our accounts but I think Live server has had so many changes it's difficult to go off of what current live offers. Nothing further.

When I wrote the ring war, it was my intention that he should not repop. Unfortunately the system that controls the overall depop/repop does not handle it properly.

I've already tested this on live. He does not repop from a failed war.

I understand. I'm guessing the repop is root level type function. Meaning, what you wrote is above that so to speak. I can see the issue you face but don't have the knowledge to assist.
Good luck Nilbog, I am sure your expertise will pay off.
EDIT:
Do you have contacts that work on live that you can trade notes?

Sony didn't keep code revisions of their circa-2001 server side code, and they sure as shit don't have a reason to help out Nilbog if they did.
He's making it all up on the fly, as close to 2001 as can be reasonably done at least.

My point was not necessarily go through the company. Sometimes people 'know' people. :)
Sony didn't help their customers other than providing pixels, I am sure they wouldn't help Nil or anyone else for that matter.
Nilbog! I just thought about this.
There is a quest in game:
http://wiki.project1999.com/Phenocryst's_Focus
When you do the final hand in and receive the end item, Pheno walks outside with a bunch of other Geonids, stop in the forest, disappears and The Menhir spawns in his/their place. When he appeared the last time I helped a guildy finish the quest, I sent my pet to attack him. He despawns after X amount of time and I was unable to kill him before his set despawn time occurred.
Is there a way to do this for the Dain ONLY after a failed Ring War? So, let the original code pop everything, but some how tag the dain as a 'Ring War Dain pop', not 7 day pop, then run script to despawn him after 1 or 2 minutes. Maybe even 5 minutes. Why? This gives people a chance to do hand ins without having a guild(s) try to sock him.
Just trying to give ideas. I hope this helps.

OR! Put a tag on the Dain that spawns normally (every 7 days ish), then code something to check that 'tag', and if that tag does NOT exists, run ABC script to despawn.

Unfortunately, it is not that easy.
The system itself needs modified, or a new one created.
We'll figure something out. Most of the priority for upcoming changes was put into the big march2001 patch.

Hummm...not being able to at least band aid something drives me crazy at work. Good luck man.
