Anyone ever give this a shot? Wondering how bad/good it turned out.

Yes. It's fun. The stories are really good. It is an easy mode RPG, but it has good graphics and easy to get on and off if you have a busy life.
BTW your subject is misleading. Latest is not the case. It's been out for a while now.
It's difficult to compare it to DDO, which I feel is WAY more like DnD than Neverwinter.

Sorry if it was ambiguous. I knew there was another DnD MMO (Dungeons and Dragons Online), but I was trying to refer to Neverwinter as being the most recently released DnD MMO.
Am I wrong in thinking it is? Is there another one released more recently?

My brother tried to get me to play Never Winter with him but it felt too Wow-like for me. Everything from following some golden yellow line to your next location, to the lame gather and repeat quests.
Not to mention, it's a free-to-play game with a cash shop. Any time I tried to do anything remotely related to PvP, I got absolutely stomped because of the Wallet Warriors.
Fortunately, I brought my brother back from the darkside and showed him installing project 99 wasn't that hard.
We've been here ever since. He had max level characters on Neverwinter but I'm pretty sure he's completely abandoned the game. Even with all the hours and commitment he sunk into it, he still prefers EQ. Take that as you will.

Yes, it is an easy mode RPG, but what I really like about it is the story line. There are many and all of them are delightful.

I never played it long enough to find out, but I have heard the story mode for Neverwinter is quite good. Dafier is on the money.
Off topic, Star Wars the Old Republic was an easy mode MMORPG. But it also had a good storyline for some of the classes.

SWOTR was absolutely my favorite modern MMO. People loved to bitch on that game about how unbalanced it was, but fucking 8 man raids was legit. See all the content that game had to offer, and you only have to coordinate 8 nerds.
I also loved how the gear was so customizable. Just make mods/armorplating/barrels/hilts or w/e with the stats you wanted, and plug it into the gear that looked the coolest. My gunslinger looked like The Dark Knight Rises' Bane for awhile, and still had top-end raid gear stats. Sure helped me feel "ok" with myself since top-end raid gear at first had smugglers wearing stilettos.
Back to Neverwinter though, the game has always looked appealing to me purely based on the eye candy graphics with the DnD lore. Didn't know if it was riddled with bugs/glitches like some other releases.
I'm definitely not thinking it would replace p99. I'm not naive enough to think a modern mmo would have such a raw feeling (no in game maps, penalties from death, brutal CR, etc) like p99. If someone did make a game like that then holy shit I would be pumped. I'd play it all the way until it failed because the lazy MMORPG players out there today would have a complete shit fit the moment they pressed, "m," and a map didn't appear to tell them where to go and what to do when they get there causing them to cancel their subscription.
