If any newcomers to the server want 1000 plat to get started (newcomer being like you are level 1 - 25 ish) just make a post saying what your favorite newb zone is and why, or share an interesting experience of your early journeys on the server. Include screenshots for bonus points, I am bored at work.

Detail is good when describing your favorite newb zone! Will pick a winner (possibly numerous winners) within a day or two, if only one person bothers to submit anything they win automatically.

Back when I played live (Bristlebane server) my favorite newbie zone was Hollowshade Moor (omgz a Luclin zone, burn the heathen!). MOST of the reason being the atmosphere of the place, and because once I got to a higher level I spent a lot of time killing Owlbears for their pelts to make Rallic Packs.

On this server however I'd have to say my favorite newbie zone is Field of Bone. I've never played an Iksar before and now I regret it because this zone is amazing. Part of it is because the zone seems to be more in line with what one might expect from a newbie zone in a newer mmo; due to the fact that there are multiple item turn ins for exp, and there are drops that you can use to make armor with quests from NPCs in Cabilis. Makes the initial grind as a newbie much more bearable, because you have very clear cut goals you can aim to achieve that help your character, for both gear and exp.

Furthermore, unlike many of the other newbie areas you can also find a very steady stream of enemies for a good while, instead of having huge dry spells like in ECL, where mobs become either green or red very quickly. The spiderling caves have given me over 200 spiderling silks to sell whenever I finally decide to head to the old world, and the abundance of decaying skeletons has given me more bone chips than I'll need for a long time (I'm an SK). Having Kurn's - which is one of the best low level dungeons in the game - be a stones throw from Cab is also quite nice.

The best part about the zone though is that it actually feels organic and real. Places like Steamfont and the Commonlands come across to me as just large open areas that the devs deposited random trees and the occasional building in. FoB however has so many different terrain types and other features such as ruins, huge skeletal remains, and nice little flavor areas like the aforementioned spiderling caves, that just feel like some long abandoned little nook that had a purpose long ago, but is now only a home for spiders. It just makes the zone feel like it has history, and is lived in, making exploration feel rewarding.

As far as experiences go, since I'm only level 8 I really haven't had a chance to have very many, but today I did have the opportunity to help out another noob. Someone was asking where a good place to get exp at level 5 was in FoB, and people mentioned the spider warrens. The guy didn't know where they were, and I was in them and told him that I would escort him. Even though it was just a short run from the road leading out of Cab, it gave me the opportunity to do what makes this game the most fun mmo I've ever played, since I warned him about the nasty Scaled Wolf Hunter that paths near the caves, and gave him a spare Burynaibane Spider Fang and choker that I had on me, and he seemed very appreciative.

So basically the zone gave even someone as low level as 8 the opportunity to help another player, show them something interesting, and even pass on some gear that was useful. I can't really think off the top of my head any other newbie areas that would have allowed me to do that, and for that reason alone this is my new favorite zone. Afterall the thing that makes this mmo so much better than all of the others since in my opinion, is just how much it encourages, forces, and even rewards helping others.

Anyhow, back to killing sabertooth cubs. lol

This tale is told by a fellow gamer who is bored at work so sadly there won't be any screenshots. I'm handicapped by the fact that my gaming buddies dragged me away from EQ in 2001 so I could play a healer in DAoC and try to keep their asses alive while they killed other players. I'm further handicapped in that I lost everything in a house fire in August 2013; only now have I recovered to the point of having extra money to build a gaming rig. So I'm out of practice as well as pretty much clueless.

I made a high elf cleric and commenced hunting in GFay. This was after I'd spent five hours installing the damned game and another two hours trying to get the UI set up perfectly. My toon was equipped with a club and a cloth robe. I think the club made her OP though, cause I noticed she could actually kill something if she beat on it for a few minutes without dying herself. Then Tunare help my poor little cleric, an orc saw her and she was dead before I could spin around and try to figure out which direction I needed to run to get to Felwithe.

I had no clue where I was, my sense heading was zip, and I was pretty well screwed. After fourteen years away I really didn't remember the zone that well. I spent an hour running around looking for my stinking corpse. Cause when you're level one a chewed-up club and ratty robe are pretty precious when you have nothing else to call your own.
After an hour I noticed other characters watching me. I don't know if they felt sorry or were laughing at me (I suspect the latter). Totally humiliated, I knew I sucked cause I couldn't even find my corpse in Greater Faydark. I sneaked away, camped, and deleted that toon. Shame is a terrible thing.

I've since recovered and made another high elf cleric. I stripped her butt nekkid and stored her valuables in the bank, then Googled some maps and ran her happy ass to Freeport. I got a bind and commenced hunting in the newbie zone just outside West Freeport.

Things have been going better since I left elfland. My baby cleric is now level 9 and hunting the willowisps in East Commonland (I used to be lvl 10 but that's another story). I can barely kill them if they con white and I'm buffed out the hoohah. Luckily there's lots of buffs to be found up at the tunnel. I plan on staying here for a few more levels so I can save up for the next set of spells. Providing the damned wisps stop killing me, that is.

Hi!

My name is Xlikx, and I'm a 14 year old necro! I like 3 things. I like dark, I like dentistry, and I like hate! For these reasons, Blackburrow is my favorite place!

First, I discuss dark. Blackburrow is dark. And since I like dark, I like blackburrow! Blackburrow is so dark that it has black in its name! Going down into Blackburrows dark with my skelly friend is always exciting. Every once in a while a fellow adventurer will shout "train to zone" and I get excited! I don't know what is really happening, but it looks like a game of tag. So one time I got on the back of the train and ran along with my new friends. But then everyone stopped running and screaming and I got punched.

Second, I discuss dentistry! My daddy is chief dentist at Court of Pain back home in Cabilis. He always say I should keep my teeth clean and practice dentistry at an early age, so I do! The gnolls in Blackburrow have great fangs I can pull on to practice dentistry! I have hundreds of fangs to share with my dad when I get home. Other kids in Blackburrow want to give to some sort of tooth fairy in Qeynos. Strange.

Finally, I discuss hate. I love hate! Everyone hates me, and everyone hates gnolls! Everywhere I go, I am hated. Everywhere I see gnolls, they are hated too! We both have hate in common. My favorite gnoll to hate is Lord Elgnub. He like deep dark place in Blackburrow too! I think he a circus gnoll...his fur is painted like a clown and he plays with snakes all day. I bet he has poor dental hygiene. I need to investigate...

With hate,
Xlikx

My favorite “Newbie” dungeon is Najena.
I started my leveling/questing here after finding out about the Mage focus items. Someone in EC was gracious enough to gift me a Shovel. I researched the quest line and in no time had my Shovel of Ponz.

So off to Najena I went to claim my other three prizes. Immediately I was killed and back at EC. I play at erratic times and not very frequently (until recently) so soloing was usually my only option. I got past the skeleton guards and realized the depth I needed to reach to get the Focus items to drop was deeper that I thought. I love the mage, but they don’t have any good “Oh Crap” spells except Gate.
I am a hugely scared of dying and corpse running…especially since I need to hit a bank for gems just to summon a pet and be able to get my corpse again. So when I start dungeon crawling, I take it slow.
As I am killing my through the dungeon, I walk through a fake wall and straight into a Red Con Skelly. Pet attack – Heal – Heal – Oh Crap – Gate.
Start my crawl all over as trash has spawned. Get back to the same spot and learn from my mistake….I finally reach the “Crystal Room” where 3 magicians spawn. I tried all I could think of to split the camp with little success.

Had to gate and log out….on my next log in a higher level was in the zone messing around and had already broken up the magicians. Once he/she was done, they let me have it. I farmed those guys for a few hours and got a Shovel and Broom!

Logged in a few days later and crawled my way back in. I now know the first part of Najena really well :P Got to the camp and there was only one Magician up. Killed him and he dropped the Torch! I was so pumped as I play the Fire pet mostly exclusively and ran to do the quest turn in. A long run/boat trip to to Timorous Deep and I had the Toes needed form a nice merchant. Gated and ran to the turn in.
Some random player was cleaning out there bank one day and asked if I had the Stein. Then promptly let me purchase it for a nice discount.

I spent many hours merchant farming the materials and farming the Focus Items in Najena…..really a great time!

I play the game slowly, family and other commitments keep me from logging in daily. Azeam is now 22, but almost a year old. So it's been a long time since I was in Crushbone but I will almost always remember how awesome it was when our group was rolling on cloth armor, shields, and the mighty Legionnair's Bracer. Amongst us newbies this was HOT stuff and worth rolling on. I was like, "Now this is classic!!" Even at 22 some people are rolling on brass armor that drops, which I think is pretty cool.

Not sure what I would do with the 1,000P if I am chosen, save some for spells and maybe try to get my wis up a notch or two, and try to fill some of the empty slots. Thanks for the contest.

I would have to say that the swamp known as Innothule has always held a dear place in my heart. As my first character on live, I made a troll warrior. I recreated this character when I first started here, however I haven't gotten around to playing him much yet. Instead I have made a monk and have made the journey from Freeport down to the swamp a few times.

How can you not love a good swamp. The dark, dampness. The alligators. And oh my, the frogs! Which brings me to the next best part of Innothule Swamp, it is home to the dungeon of the froglok people: Guk. There is nothing like a strong adventure party raiding the frogloks in Guk. The less seasoned and veteran adventurers alike are able to test their skills in this sprawling cavern. Many hope to leave with the rumored treasures within, such as a Flowing Black Silk Sash, which is said to enhance the speed of whoever wears it.

Innothule is also provides its residents with close proximity to the Ogre neighbors by traveling through the Feerrott. This allows for a quick change of scenery and gives adventurers another dungeon to visit...Cazic Thule.

Finally, Innothule is in an ideal location on the southern tip of Antonica. For those travelers moving from one side of the continent to the other on foot, there are two choices: Make the deadly gauntlet run through highpass and a dangerous Kithicor in the night time, or travel south, and pass through the greatness that is Innothule Swamp.

My first experience in live was in Freeport watching my neighbor and his brothers play. I would literally sit and watch them play because the game was so intriguing. Freeport seemed like a traditional fantasy theme city to me..

Then I saw Kelethin- it was completely different than anything I had ever imagined in terms of a city and fit the idea of "wood elves" so well. I managed to convince my mom we needed a desktop computer and started a half elf ranger (I grew up in Alaska- hunting is part of my heritage so that initially drew me to a ranger).

I loved the lifts. So cool to actually be able to activate and go up and down. And then fighting someone at the top or bottom for the elevator. It was literally a tree fort city and to my 9 year old self, it was amazing. Not to mention how much of a badass I felt like surviving a fall for the first time (that happened again on my P99 character recently- 22 druid). It just seemed like such a living city, with so many lowbies in the area and other people coming through, there was always an ooc discussion going.

Moving out from the city and fighting orcs and etc. was really exciting. Having an outside element/threat and learning to deal with KoS enemies at early levels was cool- especially with the level variance in centurions.

Crushbone next door was the cherry on top.

Kodiaak Beaar, 22 druid. (if it's any incentive, I just built a computer for my little bro and it will be his first experience playing a MMO and we will be duoing an iksar monk/shaman combo)

i came to this version of the game just to go back to the old newb zones. when i reached north ro i felt a little welled up inside. back in the beginning me and my two best buds would meet up with my brother and we'd run around the zone together and camp the dervs. there was on derv NPC that would spawn and everyone would yell out where he was. my brother was his favorite victim . In those days we played a lot and spend many hours in Ro together . one of my buds has passed and i had a friendship ending falling out with the other . my brother has taken the dark path of drug addiction and is living a hard sad life. Taking a run through north ro feels like going back home to see my friends sitting and waiting for me to come play again

My adventure began in da moist choad dat is da feerot. Momma ogre always tell me "Da gud ogres kill greenies. Gobbos, lizzards, froggies and more gobbos." Sometimes she tellz me you can't have any dinner until you kill yer gobbos." Is tuff killin greenies. One day Momma ogre and Papa ogre say "Son, go ta da Feerot and kill some lizards. Bring back da rump roast for dinner." Papa ogre give me his favorite tree branch and off I go ta kill da lizards.

Let me tell you lizzard smisshin is da best smisshin there is! You hit em high they pee dere pants. You hit em low and they legs don't work no more. You hit dem tails and they make da bestest screams. I tell ya smisshin lizzards is fun for da whole family. I had ta have smisshed twendy five and when it was time ta go home I noticed I couldn't see Ogguk no more.

"Papa ogre gonna smish me", I thought.

I yelled for help and some dummy says ta use my /loc. I don't need a lock and dat's not how you spell it dummy. I ignored da dummies and kept lookin. I finally found a bridge. It looked important. I asked da ogres there where ta go and they told me ta leave or get smished. I crossed da bridge. It looked like it needed crossed. On da other side of da bridge I found sumting funny. It was a tiny little blue man. My first thought obviously was ta smish it. But you only smish green tings. Even I know dat. I saw he had a name so I went ta talk ta him. I said "Hi Dork Assassin!". I think he reached back ta high five me and he must have missed cuz he punched me in da face.. a few times.

Feerot is confusing. Not only do you have ta smish da greenies. You have ta not get smished by da Dork Assassins. Papa ogre smished me when I got home because I couldn't find his favorite tree branch. Mama ogre smished me cuz I didn't bring any lizard rump roasts. If those lizards weren't so fun ta smish I'd never go back ta da Feerot again.

Greeeaater Faaaydaarrk! I can't help but prefer High Elves as a main, and I've never gotten past level 23 - so I've spent a lot of my played time in GFay. I have two especially memorable newb experiences.

One cool newbie memory comes from my experience playing my wizard, who is my main, level 23, and who I plan to continue to the far reaches this game has to offer, when he was level 3. I thought I should really try to turn in black wolf skins and bat wings to the caster GMs in Felwithe for phat xp, but they were both dropping really rarely. Of course, I found out later that those quests give next to no xp even at level 3, but I was still determined to hand in stacks and xp efficiently (noob mind there - and I only realized that turning in bone chips actually WAS awesome xp in Felwithe a lot later). So I was Shock of Frosting and daggering these individual bats and wolves, and getting very few quest drops. Pretty slow, and even though I was 3 it seemed the xp was moving SO SLOWLY.

By then, though, I had bought just one other spell - Numbing Cold, which, though I didn't know it at the time, is a radiating aoe for level 1 wizards. I didn't know what it did, and tried it out. Ok, an azure blue particle-y cylinder rising upward from the enemy, looks pretty awesome! I'm a badass wizard, summoning this blue magic upward at the enemy! But then I realized - this spell icon is a different color. This is a freaking area effect spell. At level 3 I was able to take a bunch of hits from bats, wasps, and wolves without too much issue. So I decided to try something awesome, not knowing if I could survive it - I hit a bat, ran to another, hit it, ran to a wasp, hit it, hit a wolf, ran past any wasps I could see because I found out they have a hive mind and aggro you if one of their drones is already on you, and hit another bat. I had like 7 mobs hitting me. Moment of truth comes - I try casting Numbing Cold to take em all out.
..interrupted. Of course, they're hitting me all the time. But I was able to regain my concentration better than I would've thought, and I was able to smoke down a bunch at once! Holy shit, that was cool! AND, it was a lot more fun than going from single to single. AND, I was able to collect way more loot at once.
This seems like a no-brainer, but to my newb-addled mind it was a breakthrough and kind of a triumph. I was able to run around, loving aggroing the wasps so easily, and level through to 4 in no time. I think I kept doing it and got to 5 that way, and was able to turn in a bunch of bat wings and wolf skins for the pitiful xp they awarded. So that was just a really fun level, felt awesome and was fun using ae wizard power on all the Felwithe-garden mobs in GFay. Of course, that was like the last time I used any area effect spells - I hope to again someday...

Another memory comes from when I played in the year 2000, and involves GFay - but I was actually trying to run from Felwithe to Freeport. I was a newb High Elven mage, let's say level 8.

I had found something on the ground, I think - I don't remember what it was. Maybe a mob dropped it, but I can't think what it'd be. Everyone was using the auction channel in GFay back then, and I wanted to be cool and do it too - this thing I had found wasn't like anything else I had seen, I remember that much. So I auctioned it, trying to be cool. PST. After a little while, I was kind of shocked to see someone actually DID send me a tell, and THEY SAID THEY WANTED TO BUY THE THING FOR LIKE 50 PLAT. Or something like that. I was really, really excited. Also, I was 10 years old. So that was something really exciting for a kid who had somehow managed to get to level 8, had no real idea how to play this game seriously, and had never walked out of GFay. And there came the tricky part. The buyer wanted to buy it in Freeport, for some reason - it doesn't make sense now, considering he must've been in GFay to hear the auction (unless auctions weren't restricted to just that zone back then?), but that's what it was. He wanted me to meet him in Freeport and sell it to him for HUGE OMG PLAT, as far as my young mind was concerned.

I had never been to Freeport or even outside of GFay, as I said. But, I had watched as my older brother ran from Felwithe to Butcherblock, past Kaladim, stood at the docks, and spent a pretty cool amount of time on the boat before reaching Freeport. I had seen him do it. He wasn't around, but I could do it. It was the only chance I had to make like 50 plat, and that seemed like a huge amount. So I set off. I remembered where my brother had run, and I followed the GFay trail until it let me to a new zone. OK! I zoned in. It was another forest. OK... I didn't really remember the details of how Butcherblock looked, but I was going to make it to the docks, damnit! I continued on the trail. It'd lead me there. Which way to turn at the dwarven outpost somewhere in the middle of the zone, I thought to myself? I think turn right? I continued along, feeling nervous as I continued, because something seemed different - quieter, not as open, not as sunny as the impression I had of the route... kind of tense and scary. I kept going. Then HIT!
HIT! A brownie hits you for 43 damage!
A brownie slaps you for 58 damage!
WTF?!
A brownie slaps you for 870 damage!
That's what it seemed like.
You have died!

...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! - went my thoughts, my hopes, my dream of running to Freeport and making 50 shiny platinum to buy all the spells I needed and maybe a staff, and still have plenty!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I still remember the horrible feeling of loss, death, knowing I'd never be able to get my corpse without dying again, not knowing where I went wrong, thinking I had just permanently lost my character and the rare chance to make 50 PLATINUM. PLATINUM. I was distraught. I may have cried a little. It was like trying to do something, thinking you could though you weren't totally sure how to do it, going the wrong way, and dying. I never talked to the person I was supposed to meet in Freeport. I don't think I ever even played that character again. That High Elven mage, my very first character in EQ EVER, died that day. The brownies scoured his bones and ate his flesh, and they had victory. Oh also, I thought at the time that if we died on a corpse run, our original corpse would be overriden by our naked corpse - so I felt that if we died on the cr, our original items would be permanently deleted. Aaand I still thought that until about level 10 or so on my current character, now. Haha! That was quite a relief finding out that mechanic, made corpse runs MUCH less scary.

So those are my two memorable newb GFay experiences, one recent, one 15 years old. I really like the zone in general - it's green, mysterious, misty, roaming orc-y, waspy, tree-city-y with great music, has awesome wizard spires that seemed massive and impenetrable when I was 10 years old, is such a friendly, safe, comforting place to level up to 8 or so before heading in to Crushbone, and used to be auction central, or so it seemed. Also, shouting "ding!" was thing that seemed totally normal. I'll always like this zone a lot - it seems like home, as far as any zone in Everquest can seem like that.

I typed a lot, that may have been tedious to read, especially the first story! But those are two memorable newb experiences I've had in what is likely the best starter zone in the game.

Over the years I think I've started new characters in most of the noobie zones, even in later expansions including Luclin and LoY. One of the most memorable for me was Everfrost (and Halas). Not just because initially the only race that could be Shamans were from there, or that I thought a Barbarian ought to be the best type of warrior (before I realized the starting stat bonuses for Race and Class were different). No it wasn't for Barb-boobies. :p

From the number of spiderlings around when trying to level tailoring, being chased by mad snow goblins or a stampede of Mamoths, there was always excitement and adventure. And also less falling out of trees from Kelethin; remember to never follow Bards or Monks around Kelethin.

Trying to find my way through the tunnel to Blackburrow without a torch; looting a Mammoth Tusk and thinking I would be rich enough to afford some new spells; and the frequent shouts for some pick-up Vox raid; all part of the character of Everfrost.

The most memorable time for me though isn't related to leveling or the new experiences exploring for the first time, but from my old guild on Mithaniel Marr who would hold guild meetings in the little alcove just off the paths to Halas. (Often with one of the Enchanters using a charmed Frost Giant as a marker to help members find the group. It was the only guild I can remember being part of from 2000 through to 2005 when I move on to other games.

The positive community and teamwork to accomplish new challenges was what I loved about EQ, and I hope to find another great group of folks here on p1999 also to bask in the nostalgia and make some new memories.

What's the first thing you think of when you think High Elf? Snooty, better than thou attitude veiling a true desire to see good prevail.
What's the first thing you think of when you think Paladin? Snooty, better than thou attitude veiling a true desire to see good prevail.
Why not both?

Having never gotten to truly play Everquest back when it first came out, it was a joy to see P99 start up. Live doesn't cut it for me; Shards of Dalaya was nice....kind of but there was something missing.

Finally I found the free time to get everything set up for P99. I stuck with my plan for a High Elf Paladin, though the world would surely ridicule me. And if I could make it to the top all the more reason to be snooty - though I don't much RP actually happens here.

Still started the character up. Greater Faydark. Faeries zipping past getting their faerie dust in my eyes. Bats flying around randomly. Skeletons ambling through trees. It was glorious. I managed to survive to level two with no deaths. Great!

I found a quest from the druid guild to bring back rusty weapons. Silly elves....not carrying the weapons I needed.....silly skeletons not carrying the weapons i needed...guess I'll take a boat.

On the boat to freeport. Things are going good. get to freeport, pick up said weapons and back on boat.

Crap. Need to log out. Life intervened with the sweet addiction. There was just one problem. I didn't realize that logging off on a boat was a bad idea.

Logged back in and I'm in the Ocean, praying a shark don't eat my skinny elf bottom.
After several questions asked and answered via /ooc and a repeated use of /loc I managed to swim myself to an island. My swimming is up to 24 by the way. Yah.....that felt like a wasted evening. No XP. No sights. No nothing but swimming...when I got to the island I had to wait for the boat which never seem to come at the few brief times I could log on. So to keep fro getting board I got a fishing pole. And some bait. My fishing skill is up to 8. Well, I've got that going for me, which is nice.

And I loved it. Looking back it was wonderful and ridiculous, yah several nights that could have been spent leveling were spent swimming or standing on a dock waving at the NPC's but it was fun because I could laugh at myself and the snooty-tooty grin that is creeping across this bound and determined High Elves bony face.

Yah....I may suck at this game, but I'm having a blast. So here's to you Ocean of Tears. The time spent there was great. I loved. I cried. I spilled some coke on my desk. Ocean of Tears, you are aptly named.

p.s. I eventually logged on in time to nab a boat and am happily back in Gfay and at level three. It's pathetic after two weeks, but it's glorious.

High Elf Paladin, Fiyerro. Look out. He's coming like a snail through molasses to bring down Tunare's justice on all that bad asses.

I originally tried P99 years ago and quit lol, but I came back recently and started leveling again. Anyhow here's my awkward noob story :P

My first and only female character in any MMORPG.

Like 99% of the online player base, I am a male.

My first MMO being EQ1, I made a human female monk, as my buddy at the time said it was the best because "You can look at their butts while you run" (mind you I'm 12 or 13?).

I level up slowly in EFP and then Nro and at lv8 or 9 got a group doing dervs. It went fine until two players joined the group and it got...weird.

I'm trying to remember exactly but I know the aggressor was a dwarf and his lackey was a high elf I think? Anyways ole Dwarfy decides I'm an attractive female (blonde human model) and gives me a derv ring saying "here you go gorgeous". I was like "Oh yeah I like watching the females butts when they run too" thinking he meant that? Nope, this guy harrasses me for the next 45 mins or so hardcore RPing for my love.

His lackey is sending me tells about how much the dwarf likes me and we make a great couple?

Eventually the dwarf RP proposes to me, and being incredibly uncomfortable I quickly /q and didn't play for weeks.

I eventually came back to EQ and rolled a MALE dwarf cleric. I haven't to this day played a female character in any game since.

Oh and my buddy told me later he played dumb and enjoyed the benefits of getting free items etc from dudes in-game while playing a female character. I know he wasn't the only guy who "RP'd".

The loaf appeared inside of oggok, the ogre homelands fortress city. Loafman always feeling the calling of the shaman sought out the guildmaster and delivered his notice of fealty. The master welcomed the loaf with a weary eye, and open arms. Sensing great powers hidden deep inside this student,he presented greenloaf with a mud stained tunic so that all may know his allegiance. From that day forth Loaf strived to be the best shaman there was, late nights researching and learning from the great shamans past. his own Ancestors contacted him from the beyond and bestowed upon him the great lost knowledge of the Shaman. teaching him secrets known only to the most trusted of all the Heyokah. The True Spirit grew stronger in him everyday. The places Loaf visted most are the feerot and the deserts of ro.

"Breaks into song."

The oasis is where he spent most of his days ,
chilling out maxxing relaxing all cool, try'n kill the croc'a'dials in the tidal pool.
Got in one little duel and my guild got scared, said your hunting in Lake of ill omen from now on in s t e ad..
So I headed to the Docks like i Don't care,
The boat was just arriving to take me to the overthere,
Once aboard, Sigh of relief , no wait at all, the raft took off down the coastline wall,

About Face once more to wave good bye, but whats this i see out the corner of my eye.

I look out and with great Fight, Cazel is wigging out on those hater's and smashing them together like toys, To his delight..

He ate the cleric first, the ranger got it worst, the mage just almost got away..
This is what happens when you mess with primal forces, and the agents of the spirits, or Greenloaf anyways! 8P

The ballad of greenloaf the shaman. I have to run to work, i'm sorry i could not edit this properly. Short on time. i hope you enjoyed the first half of my ballad!

With hate,
Xlikx

This reminded me of "Cactus Magic or Luck?" ^^

My favorite newb zone has to be Butcherblock Mountains. I remember making my first dwarf cleric by the name of Brewbeard back on live.

I walked out onto the hillside in front of Kaladim and looked back upon the craft work of my fellow dwarves and it was amazing! what a beautiful monument to dwarven kind. As I was gazing upon the statues i was struck down by a oversized chicken! Darn Aviaks! After looting my corpse I went to work gaining experience and strength. This place was wonderous. It had all sorts of creatures from your typical vermin to Orcs blazing down the paths carrying messages for only the Duke of Below might know. Upon further exploration I found goblins a plenty to beat down, even some living under the water by the docks... durned gobbies were everywhere. Not to mention a gigantic chessboard full of abominations waiting to be destroyed with my holy powers.

What an experience! I will always hold a spot in my heart for that zone. I am also at work, so no pictures :(

I just figured out that this site is not blocked at my school. I'm a very young player that wasn't even born when EQ came out. my dad was addicted and a hardcore raider and he showed me a lot of the other games like LOTRO and SWTOR and WOW but he always said nothing came close to classic EQ.

He found this server a few months ago and we have been playing on it together. I love this game too. I made an ogre shaman and my dad got me a port to Neriak to team up and we have made level 15. I die a lot because I forgot that the guards don't like me outside of Nektokulos. I have been playing in befallen and love that zone. Its fun even when my dad isn't there people group with me and I have learned my way around and have all the keys. Some people have given me some armor and stuff too.

I like Befallen because I have to duck to get through doors and stuff and its more realistic than other games where people run through me. Its a challenging zone where you have to pull carefully and work as a team. Everyone I have met in there is super nice and I got to help someone else out yesterday who had never been in there and was lost. It was so much fun.

My hardest kill in there so far has been an icebone skeleton. it nuked me really hard with some frost spell and I was so close to dying it made the victory great.

So here's the deal fellas/ladies, JBoxCSU has won the grand prize of 1000pp, and everyone else who submitted a story is entitled to a smaller amount, i'll need to go count how many people there are but i am thinking round 400 - 500 plat each.

My question is, are there currently any really trusted ec trader types who I could give the plat to and pay him to give it to y'all whenever you happen to show up? It will take forever to meet up with all of you lol.

I will ask that in the server general chat, maybe find a guy from a respectable guild who will do it.

Hi I hope I'm not too late to the party. I just recently started playing again as an Iksar Shaman due to the ease of leveling and cash opportunities to get started. That said, I am reminded of the first time I played Everquest in 1999. My brother played a few months before I did and begrudgingly introduced me to it. He really didn't want to show his little brother the ropes but my mother made him.

My first character was a human paladin in Qeynos. I can still remember the thrill of venturing outside of the gates under siege by the Gnolls. I found a trick where you could convince the injured monk to follow you around and help you kill fire beetles and the like. I even would check tree and other corners to see if Verant had placed some secret object for adventurers to find.

Then I found my favorite zone of all, the Qeynos Aquaducts. The ambiance of the zone, the dingy walls and all of the rats was so frightening. You could tell they put a lot of time into it as well, as there were numerous hidden doors and traps for the unlucky adventurer. I died so many times walking into a deadly bandit or trap.

After time though, I remember feeling like a king of the sewers. I knew every turn, every mob spawn and ever hidden trap. Q-bert with his alligator tooth earrings was on my list! It felt like it was my zone. Back in the day there were even groups in the sewers killing bandits and trying to scrape by. Qeynos aquaducts was a perfect place to learn what the developers has in store for you, an immersive beautiful game.

Before long I was venturing our from the Aquaducts and into Blackburrow. I realized that paladins weren't my thing and that I really wanted to be a rogue named Swash, who I played for many years. In the beginning I even got my mom to yell at my brother to give me an item to help me advance.

I remember my brother spending way more time playing than me. He was even one of the first level 50 druids on our server. It was so exciting when I could convince him to play with me because he was so powerful. He has killed Vox and Nagafen and seemed invincible to me. I remember walking around BB and his thorns just desolating the mobs.

He was my inspiration to play, since I wanted to be stronger than he was. In the end I never quite caught up, by I had an amazing time along the way. The mystery, exploration, and danger are all what keeps me coming back to EQ. I'm really looking forward to my Project 1999 experience!

Thanks again for this contest.

My hope is to do something similar for others. Was even thinking of trying to get a duel club going on (yes, yes I know. There is RED. But this would be not to the death - but to the pain, or like 30% and bets could be taken in game- no real world money obviously) just as a way to get high, mid and low levels to interact. We've got a good community here and this thread is one example of those who have played the game for a while helping those who are new to both p99 and EQ itself.

Anyhow, back to killing sabertooth cubs. lol

Characters name is Aglaron.

Character's name is Annis. This really is a great thing you're doing - now I can finish buying spells!!! Thank you so much.

Xathinos, 24 (as of today) wizard. Adding to all the other newbs in their appreciation, thanks very much! Will make leveling this character and my 11 Shadow Knight much more fun. Thanks again!

Edit: I'm logging on right now. I'll also be on the lookout for Nastinate - Trusted or Fabumbus in game, I believe..?
