View Full Version : Epic question
I have a level 30 cleric with an epic equipped. I havent played him because I didnt want to die and lose the ability to equip the epic again. (I like the stats... +25 wisdom and +100 mana, amongst other stats is nice.
My question is this, do the stats work with me being under 46? Is it actually worth keeping in my hand or is it counted as an empty slot at the moment?
It will behave like you don't have it equipped. You may as well log on again and get him to 46 so you don't need to worry about it.

So empty slot then? No stat bonus? Looks like I need to go shopping

Stats apply still. Dont die or unequip.
These 2 answers would seem to contradict each other, or am I misreading?

I don't know where he got his info but I had a lvl 40 rogue with epic. He couldn't use the weapon in melee but he still had all the stats from it. So I'd go with my answer.
I had 1000 mana, cast a level 1 spell worth 1 mana, was left with 749 mana...
looks like its a no go

That is weird. Well then, visually the stats apply but I guess they don't actually apply?
My info came from Haynar.
I think current code renders it as if you didnt have anything equipped, if you dont meet level requirement. I am sure it will be looked at again to make sure it behaves correctly.

That was from a little while ago. I wasn't sure on stats but I assumed those wouldn't work either. It sounds like the stats are display only.
Right! I was checking through that post and didnt see that. Perhaps I had my eyes closed.
On to other matters then, WTB +wis primary hand item :p

Newb question: why don't you want to die before lvl 46 if you have the cleric epic? Is there a difference if you died and had not equipt or died and had equipt?

There's really no difference between having an epic equipped pre-46 and having nothing in that slot at all. It's just that if you had it equipped before the change, it will continue to sit in that slot until death do they part and make it look like you've still got it even though it's completely non-functional.
The original fear of dying came from the mistaken assumption that the epics would continue to function while equipped after the change until death de-equipped it.

They gave stats. Just couldn't Melee with them... Unless I was missing a piece of gear I had with disease resists...
The monk epics also gave the 9/16 ratio for h2h.

The stats display but it seems like the cleric epic didn't actually give the mana stats based on the OP's experiment with casting spells. Is there a way you can test the resists?

Thanks for answering my question! Just one more follow-up, can you not un-equip an epic once you have placed it in it's slot?

Hi S_wifty, - Epics could be multi-quested (no-drop items sold) to others during quest turn-ins, which would allow a level 1 character to have and use an epic weapon. This went on for several years. The P99 devs recently disabled epics for pre-level 46 characters. What this change means is that, if a character at lvl 45 or lower was holding an epic at the time of this change, they could continue to hold it, until it was unequipped. Once the weapon is no longer equipped, you could not re-equip it until you reached level 46. At level 46 and up, you can equip and un-equip an epic weapon as you would any other weapon. I hope that clears up any confusion.
