I for one think the Discord server should be tuned to have casters med with spellbooks. Melee have a extreme disadvantage IMO. It would be nice if we could implement this classic feature to level the curb of this game to a classic approach...

They can't do it. The titanium client is the issue, it's not an on/off switch. The same reason they can't have classic era night vision among other things.

They could make meditate skill require a big pop up window that is equal to the size of your entire EQ window and the skill automatically turns off when the window is closed.

But yeah it aint happening. I mean, they didn't even make a discord sub forum and that takes about 20 seconds for an average shmuck who knows nothing about coding.

We are asking them to code for this server. if it happens I will be amazed.

Melee should stick to R99 where their massive resists make them beasts (see some sanders post). Discord should be classic naked wizards nuking. This is life, I will lev and nuke while your broke warrior ass can't afford pumice.

Also, thanks for clearing up the night vision thing, no wonder my memories of only seeing 6 feet with a fire beetle eye in classic did not line up with this always daytime we now have.

I remember playing a barbarian and having to essentially memorize the keystrokes to get through the last stretch of the tunnel into blackburrow since it was complete darkness. Goog times.

God that first greater light stone on every toon was so good. I also remember pulling light sources in pvp to avoid detection.

I remember when I made my first human. Logged in, couldn't see anything, logged out. Never went back.

My very first EQ character was a human warrior, back in the early beta before Freeport was even in game. I remember having to actually use the in game paths in the zones so I wouldn't get lost at night...that's immersion right there.

I still watch for possible light sources as a sign of someone is invisible...even with see invis on...habits. Or coming along blind corners.

First took was a wood wood ranger...scrambling to find the elusive 'orc hill' and later playing a human only to realize how much better the elf eyes were. Final took in true classic was DE purely because cranking up my brightness and moving close to the screen didn't work all that well.

Good old days...when no one knew how to spawn AC, so our guild just killed everything and crossed fingers.

im not a dev or a nilbog, but im pretty sure the titanium client is the only thing preventing this. and if it was possible it would absolutely be implemented on the discord server, as well as the P99 Blue and Red servers. nilbog would love to force books into the faces of casters :p

Didn't books in front of caster faces go away with Velious?

Post Luclin:

http://www.tski.co.jp/baldio/patch/20020319.html

Spell casters no longer need to see their spell book when meditating. Once a character has the meditation skill, it will function when the character is sitting down.

Luclin release date: December 4, 2001

Ok nice find, but with the Velious UI didnt that mean the spellbook just had to be open for casters to meditate, you could still see around it (the UI itself was transparent as well).

In contrast to the classic UI where you could see nothing.

Reading those patch notes made me nostalgic for Luclin =(

Kergan

Yeah, aside from anything Vex Thal related (makes camping pained soul look like a walk in the park) I enjoyed Luclin quite a bit, especially Ssra Temple.

As for the ability to move the window thats a great question - I believe the Velious UI was the first one to allow customization so it is entirely possible you are correct and you could drag the window or even make it smaller.

Unfortunately any ability to do something like that is gone with Titanium. A required sacrifice for a stable client to be shared among the emu community I'm afraid. No more human vision, character doll preview and blind medding among other things!

Rejji

it's also almost 2016 and that window would be atrocious on our technology and monitor sizes, and I can only think of about 3 masochist that would actually want to play on such an early caveman ui

also yes i wish there was a p99 quality emu that planned to go higher than velious like luclin and pop because I never played those

Also, more on the original topic, I hope they find a way in the future "seasons" of Discord (provided we even make it to the first) to prop up melee characters. I posted some of my thoughts in other threads. Basically give monks increased damage on par with live damage tables, warriors very high innate resistances/increased HP and make see invs not see a rogue in stealth + increased backstab damage. Also give all classes a 30 second cast recall to bind point ability and remove bind affinity, and add soul binders to cities.

aka balance things

agreed

relevant quote:

Rogean: Lord Vyemm's attack speed, mindmg, maxdmg set to verified values. accuracy slightly decreased. HP lowered, but still remains higher than classic for balance reasons.

edit
kergan:

+ increased backstab damage.

didnt see that part, voted no

make see invs not see a rogue in stealth + increased backstab damage.

As long as they give druids faerie fire and humans perception racial.

Vote no...keep your overpowered melees on r99. Leave discord melee for the true neckbeards.

Buy if you want classic...didn't spells hit players for full *way back* or was that just rumour?

Kergan

None of the changes I suggested would lead to a melee winning the server. And neckbeards won't be playing them either, if anything it'll be the casual players who don't care if they don't make it past level 5 (which they wont).

Why the hell would they buff melee to be relevant? It's practically impossible to do so for classic.

Pally/sk are the only decent choices for melee in the era (maybe rangers with ykeskas), but they just don't have the weps to support their meh spells. Even in classic era melee were only decent in dungeons or tight areas.

They won't have the weapons of classic era, the minimal resists, or the favorable fighting areas. There's no way you could buff them enough without God-mode-ing them.

It's the era of casters, just like every other MMO ever before itemization (i.e. 1-3 expacs) catches up and pushes melee to the top.

in classic anything that isnt dru/wiz is garbo
