Staff of Dreaded Gaze should not be visible if Xalgoz has it

Was camping this guy the other day and he popped with the staff after one PH (call me lucky). I noticed he was actually wielding the staff + the fang and I do recall that he shouldn't be wielding the staff period if he has it. Sources (http://imgur.com/VI4R14i) say this is indeed correct that there should be no indication that he has the staff until you loot it. Based off the comments, if he does have it, he will just wield either 1. nothing or 2. a fang on one hand and nothing on the other.

Also saw a post that he doesn't always drop 2 daggers, but i'm too lazy to dig deeper.
