Question about melee PvP

I played on the PvP server on live but I think only got up to lvl 9 so I never encountered PvP. I encountered my first PvP fight last night against a twinked rogue. Of course since I'm a noob cleric, he targets me first in an attempt to kill me.

My first thought was just tank him and allow my group to kill him. Well he wasn't dying and I was running low on mana so I decided to gate. Got some mana back went to zone line and my group started to zone out. The twink is back but focusing on another target. The twink sees me again and starts beating on me again. I knew it was pointless to just let him beat on me so I tried something else. I just held the RMB and strafed in a NASCAR oval and he was never able to hit me. I also didn't have SoW at the time.

At first I thought it was funny but then started to worry since I'm playing a monk with a shaman friend. Is this all it takes to make a melee be useless in PvP or did the twink just get juked by a noob?

He's either not a real twink if he can't hit you strafing without sow, or really bad. Possibly a little bit of both.

if you are a west coaster with >100 ms you're going to have to basically get inside of his body/in front of him

I right click my skean proc and /face in big zones. I also modify my game files so all skeletons are ogres with nizzarr skin so I can hit them better. it's the closest I can get to Classic on a custom server.

Most meleed have a hard time hitting a straifed target. If you understand how to land on a straifing hitbox, you will be much scarier.

This twink was prolly a level 60 who runs from all high level pvp, griefs newbs on his twink, then comes to the boards to cry about other better guilds ruining the server.

Thanks for all the information everyone! I was just curious because after I did that, he stopped and said something like "I've never seen someone run like that without frapsing". I can't remember his exact words but it was something similar to that.

Also is it common for people to /shout their gear after they PK someone? This twink did that after I got away and he killed a group member and I've also seen someone in my guild do it. Since I've only been in the guild a few days, I couldn't remember who it was.

IF it was an actual twink, it would have had jboots or at the very least sow pots and could have easily stuck to someone circle strafing even with west coast ping. I played at around 130-140 and barely missed rounds on people doing that at the same run speed.

The twink should have had the move speed advantage, and thus wasn't actually twinked or was just really bad. Detective Salt has spoken.

Maybe they're fat and don't run well? Possibly a moonguard twink role-playing a fat rogue.
