Hey everyone,
I've been waiting for an ip exemption for a few weeks and it looks like it might take awhile so I was wondering if using a vpn until then is a good idea? I've heard a few people on the forums talking about it but I'm not sure exactly how you do it. Does anyone do this so that they can play side by side with a friend?

alot of people could help you with this but...............would require them outing themselves.
best bet is to just wait.
also u can hotspot a phone connection as a 2nd connection, but really if ur jus asking how to box on this server I advise against doing it coz u will get away with it for awhile then one day u will get dumped.

The rules say two boxing is one person playing two toons.
BUT, They also say that If you genuinely have multiple people playing from the same connection, you are required to request an IP Exemption
Violation of this rule will result in disciplinary action and possible loss of accounts involved.
If two people want to play from a single connection then wait for the expemtion. Only way to be sure you won't get spanked.

I dont think it'd be a problem.
If they suspected boxing they would put you and the other character through the same boxing test and if failed, both accounts would be banned / suspended whether they were IP exempt or not..

Amazon has virtual desktops with remote graphics. How does this work with the EULA? Some changes need to be made to fill the policy vacuum. This would never get someone through dual boxing (Private server with custom content, scripts, etc. Just don't do it), but it could resolve IP exemption requests that are taking an inordinate amount of time to resolve. The connection is from another location technically.

I agree. The way it's written now seems to contradict itself. But like Masakizt said, if you pass the boxing test and there are legitimately two people playing, it shouldn't be an issue.

There's only a contradiction if you are purposely reading incorrectly.

Well I've seen it mentioned all over the forums so I didn't think there was a problem with asking about it. I really don't know how to multi-box to be honest, nor do I have any desire to do it. To me, it is a massive waste of time.
Playing the game with my girlfriend, however, is a lot of fun or so we believe because we haven't actually been able to play together yet.
I realize there are people who are looking for ways to break the rules but I'm not one of them. I'm really happy that I found this community and I wouldn't ever do anything to risk losing it. We just want to play together that's all.

Yes, a VPN will work. Yes, you should wait for IP Exemption.
Yes, there are consequences if your Exemption isn't accepted and you use VPN.

Cool, I'll just wait. Sorry I said anything about the VPN.

Put another petition in for exemption. I have never seen it take that long. Devs want you to be able to play with your girlfriend, and catch you if your boxing
Make sure you include all the information they ask for
Account names
Person playing the account
etc.

To be honest, I think multi-boxing is lame and I support the whole idea of the ip exemption.
The other day I was playing world of warcraft because lately I thought I'd see if I could get back into it. Well, Some guy was playing 5 blood elf mages right beside me and I wasn't happy to see that people can get away with that. Seems like the developers would want to uphold the integrity of the game rather than allow that.
I'm really glad eq project 1999 is here after those few days of playing wow. Now they have that annoying group finder tool and takes all the work out of finding groups. The only problem is the whole experience is different now. There are so many little changes like that that were introduced into wow that it's nothing like it was in the beginning. That's why I can't really get back into it.
So, I'm glad eq is here because it really doesn't hold your hand you know? I'm playing a necromancer and he's 23 right now and I've been in tons of fun groups and the whole time she's watching like "man I want to play with you because it looks fun" but it's been about 3 weeks almost and we're not sure how long it's gonna be.
It's great that more people are joining though. That means one day there could be more servers.

Well the best way for you to help her through the initial learning curve is to watch and help while she plays. You could always take turns, keeping your chars at the same level, until the exemption goes through.
