this issue goes all the way back to 2010, dev responded that it may have changed from Qeynos to SFG at some point, more information is needed to make the change.

I can confirm my Half-Elf Druid was created and started in Surefal Glade inside the giant tree facing the guild masters way back in 1999.

Unfortunately evidence beyond my memory will be tough to come by I think.

Here is some evidence from an old archived website.

http://www.oocities.org/eqrangers/races.htm

"Humans are one of the most diverse races in all off Norrath. They may choose to be any class except Shaman. So with so many choices for a Human to choose as his occupation, what can you expect if you choose the life of a Ranger? Human Rangers begin their life in the jagged pine village know as Surefall Glade. "

There is no date but you can tell it is old from the spell list stopping at level 49. Which means classic!

Then there is this which doesn't even list surefall as a choice for anything:

I started a Human Karana Ranger in December 2000. 100% sure I started in Surefall. Sorry, no evidence though!

I was a human karana ranger and I distinctly remember not being able to get out of the tunnel from surefall the qeynos hills bc it was too dark to navigate until someone hooked me up with a torch.

My first character was a Half-Elf Ranger back in 1999. I vividly remember starting in Surefall Glade, because I spent my first hour of playtime wandering around trying to figure out what to do until a friendly Barbarian gave me a lightstone and pointed me towards Qeynos.

More evidence:

http://thedruidpages.tripod.com/Walkthroughs/human_walkthrough.htm

"You will start out in Surefall Glade. The hunting grounds you should hunt in are located in North Qeynos outside the gates. They include rats, gnolls, bats, snakes, fire beetles, klicniks, and other easy monsters. You first want to start out by buying your spells.

The Druid guild is the zone that you start in, Surefall. In the zone you will find your Guildmaster. First give him your note. Then buy these spells (once you have the money) Burst of Flame and Snare..."

The main page hasn't been updated since 2001.

Hi Telin, between this and all the evidence here:

Is there a reason that these starting locations/binds haven't been changed yet??

No reason just isn’t highest priority, and it’s not the simplest of changes. It’s a goal to get it in by green launch.

One thing we need before implementing is the exact location and facing if possible of where players initially spawned in classic. It may have changed over the years.

the exact location and facing

For Rangers, the spawn is the same as the succor point 0,0 facing NW

For the Druids, the spawn is inside their tree, the same as the TSS spell Zephyr: Surefall Glade:

-209,-391,9 facing South

I went through everyone's conversations ever. It's possible that at launch day itself the spawn points weren't in SFG, because a lot of stuff was missing everywhere, like guildmasters and shit. But if so, this was fixed right away because tons of people who claim to have created characters very early on remember Rangers coming alive next to the guild, facing the water, and the Druids remember starting inside the tree.

Coincidentally, both of those locations share the same loc as the two spells above, which leads me to believe they just recycled those coordinates because both locations involve people appearing in the zone suddenly and facing some direction.

So I don't have proof proof but these seem really likely.

Does anyone have the bind point loc in qhills? That's the one I can't seem to find anywhere.

half elf karana ranger has no newbie note on Green server.
half elf karana ranger i created on blue ~1-2 weeks ago had a newbie note (and received Mud Stained Tunic* turning it in)

Was the removal of the newbie note intentional?

Not intentional, it’s just a separate section, working on it tonight.
