View Full Version : Monk skills: Leveling up Feign Death and Sneak?

What controls when these level up? Is it just the same type of thing as Sense heading, where repeated use will slowly level them up, or do you have to be sneaking near a mob? Is it time spent in sneak mode, etc?
It's just like Sense heading, keep mashing the buttons and they will keep going up. Nothing special needs to be happening around you.

I suggest just making a macro you call "AgroDrop" and use it from now until the end of time. Use this in groups and raids with a tank so as not to be called out as a mongo and noob by l33t players.
Put in it (bonus if you are Iksar):
/attack off
/doability #where-forage-is
/doability #where-FD-is
/stand
/attack on
You can also work Sneak into it to level that at the same time.
Then just keep mashing it when FD comes off cooldown.

I made a macro w sneak, sense heading and /loc (and /who on red) and bound it to me right movement key ^^ Was able to keep sneak capped as I leveled up. I use an n52te, so it was more convenient to just flick the stick rather than constantly mash a button. Though mash I did for FD. Sneak maxes at 113 though for monks, which means even when maxed it may still take a few tries to work.

It is also important to note that successfully sneaking while FD acts like harmony and causes mobs to turn and depart for their spawn points at the exact same time making them difficult to split. Ideally, you should wait until only one remains and only then pop sneak and stand once it turns around. You'll then be ready to snag it w/o Re-attroing the others.

... and depart for their spawn points at the exact same time ...
I'm pretty sure this is incorrect.

That is very not how it works, they return in the same way no matter when you sneak during FD

Successfully sneaking while FD and then standing guarantees that 100% of the time every single mob will memblur and forget you.
This is horribly broken and trivializes pulling in many ways on a monk. Pulling should require teams, and dropping aggro shouldn't be nearly as easy. /quitting out was a very common practice among monks in raids, here it is almost never required because of how broken sneak is.

That macro needs a delay and an autoinventory. You're probably better off just moving forage to its own setup.

/attack off
/doability #FD
/Pause 1 second
/doability #Sneak
Then hit Z to stand and resume what ever monk activities your doing (pulling, agro droping, saving your skin, ect). I dislike having an "agro drop" macro because i guarantee you will mess up and hit it when you mean to FD and end up standing back up, just hit Z to stand, its simple.
And sneak tagging is definitely a real thing. You FD + sneak, wait for mobs to start pathing back, and then you stand and hit the back with range and only 1 will come as long as you hit the one furthest back in line and sneak was successful. Takes some getting used to and something you need to re FD because you dont get mem blur, but it works more often than not and its pretty easy to learn the nuances, its not rocket sciences or as hard as it sounds on paper.

Incorrect.
You want for this macro to have delay and /autoinv.
I've been using it for a long time without any issues.

Good or you. But the one time it bugs your actions out because you tried to use FD and forage on the same line an you're unable to do anything besides auto attack or the one time it bugs your cursor out for having too many items will make it a poorly written macro.
Definitely not worth it to use. Strongly advise against.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more obvious it becomes. It needs to be two macros, one with FD/Sneak and one with Stand/Forage.
FD Macro:
/attack off
/doability FD
/pause 5
/doability sneak
Forage Macro:
/stand
/doability forage
/pause 5
/attack on
/autoinventory
definitely want a /pause 1 or more between attack off and the FD ability
depending on latency at the time you press it, the FD may fire before the server knows your attack is off and mess the whole thing up

i personally don't recommend relying on FD macros
ive found the delay to be... problematic to say the least
just push the buttonz, and you will get the skill ups
also, as an iksar, if you are that strapped on cash that you NEED to forage for food I will buy you a stack from time to time

Agreed 100%. Some people just refuse to play without them, though. And apparently when they do use them, they're doing it all wrong.
