A few years ago I would have laughed off into the sunset if someone suggest I play on a PvP server in EQ....then I got into Darkfall and my entire outlook on MMO PvP changed. I want to put some time into Red and give it a shot, namely to shake things up, but I have some questions:
- Do people regularly try to kill you while finding a group? Like, I'm wandering through some sweet zone and happen upon a duo, then ask them if I can join. Am I just as likely to get rekt as I am a group? Kinda curious how group dynamics work in PvP EQ, considering how important grouping is.
- Is joining a guild basically mandatory because of the low(er) pop if I want to get leveling groups that (potentially) won't be just as likely to kill me?
- What are the three most important Do's of playing on Red, and what are the three most important Don'ts.

do's:
-buy a cape irl, preferably with hood
-read up on the different properties of metal and invest in a mace that will not bend immediately upon contact with dog or lady
-oh you should probably kill some mobs and turn in some quests
don'ts:
-don't ever log on this forum. just play the game and ignore we exist beyond auctions and guild discussion
-don't rmtstaff
-don't immediately join the winning side, do it after you find out everyone else is a bunch of drug-addled lunatics
enjoy your time here!

Sub level 56 most people are chill, because everyone is mainly concerned with leveling. Most groups stick together and inner group violence usually resulted from someone running their mouth about something they shouldn't have.
I have several characters 50+, never been in a guild and do just fine. Being in a guild can be helpful though and probably the way to go. Without a guild, it gets much harder finding groups 56+.
my three tips
1) do your homework before joining any guild. If their officers are berging out and nonstop forum questing, then look elsewhere.
2) Don't freak out when someone kills you, but instead send that player a tell saying 'good fight'. If they are chill, you can usually ask questions about what they did or what you might have done better. Some cool people out there. Unless you think they were a douche, then just keep quiet.
3) don't use /role or /anon. It is very unlikely that anyone is going to come looking for your level 37 wood elf druid because they can see what zone you are in. If they do, then you will get valuable pvp experience. Being visible is a great way to network and find opportunities that would otherwise pass by.

I haven't played on red but I did red on live.
My tips would be good general ideas.
1) Start with a class that in strong even when being a naked newbie. Mages, Necros, Druids.
2)The spells gate and bind affinity are good cushions for people who are new to the red life style. If you have to play a melee your going to spend a lot more time running around naked. (though with 2 expansions finding empty zones should be easy)
3) Pick a race that can hide. You'd be surprised how many people can't see invis.

All those #3 suggestions above are crap. Use anon role all the time. Roll a human character

People dont generall kill you if you join their group. It does happen, esp at lower levels.

Thanks guys, appreciate the tips. Still debating on a race / class. It's between an Iksar Shadowknight or a Gnome Wizard. I might just make both and play both, but I'm trying to pick a "main" for over here.
Yeah join thunderdome get into your 50s and join empire

If you want to be a caster, make it a Euridite. The INT bonus allows you to focus more gear on resists early on.
My first roll was a Necro. Not as easy to PvP with as some, but the harvester with See Invis is amazing early on. Combined with Harmshield, Shadow Step, and Gate it will keep you out of traps or get you out when you bite off more than you can chew.
Be warned, at 60 you wont get many kills unless they are away from a zone...but you can enjoy watching them spend 200pp on cure pots even if you don't kill them.
