iPads are used to mop up iSpills.

Would a mac setup guide (should be one on tech discussion) be similar to ipad?
It would be more similar to an iPhone set-up than a full on mac set-up.

They are completely different architectures, so unless you have a Mac emulator for iPad, it won't be possible. I don't think those exist, but I have learned to never say never.
But most iOS devices use OpenGL ES 2.0/3.0 and/or Metal and there are differences even from OpenGL that Mac uses and unless you account for them do not allow for cross-platform usability.

I'm assuming you could remote desktop into a Windows PC from the ipad. Sounds terrible though.

Maybe better to stick to WoW cards and other apps.

iPad doesnt have close to enough power to emulate an x86 processor. Even if it did, Apple's crap review process would reject the app (there are no NES/SNES/etc emulators on the app store either)
The only way you'll be able to play is with 1) open source client (not likely) or 2) using some kind of tool like Remote Desktop
You can also return that iPad and get a much more useful Surface 3 / Surface Pro 3 (theyre actually really good)

Someone got it working on their phone a while back and this is how they did it. It was terrible though.

Just to clear this up :)
Everquest was built for Windows
The program will not run on an operating system like iOS (iPhone and iPad software) just like it won't run on Mac OSX etc... there are emulators for it Mac, which emulate a windows setup.
The phone software developers have no interest in emulating windows desktop OS, it's just another world and you need a larger screen, and when you get a larger screen you can usually just house the hardware/software for Windows.
The remote setup that Pyrocat was taking about is like a computer looking at a computer through the Internet, very sluggish due to trying to shove all those pixels through the internets line.
Until upload and download speeds improve (and they won't because as soon as transfer rate goes up, do does the graphic quality) you will always find it hard to see up to date information that is fluid and without delay.
I use it every now and then just to log in and have a chat with guildies, I was able to use it to do simple tasks like cooking (as long as all the ingredients were already in my inventory and I logged near an oven) but as for moving, casting and meleeing (90%) of EQ you won't be able to do any of this.

So could you run p99 on a surface?

So could you run p99 on a surface?
You can run it on the Surface Pro series (1, 2, or 3) or the Surface 3. I actually can play EQ effectively on my Surface Pro 3 (i7, but the i5 will likely work fine as well). I've only run into sluggish performance in the EC tunnel. Granted, it will eat up a lot of power and your fans will hum very loudly, but you can play it nonetheless. Surface Pro 1, 2, and 3 as well as Surface 3 are all x86 architecture while Surface 1 and Surface 2 are ARM. Not to get bogged down in details, but ARM is basically what iPads, lower end tablets, and smart phones use because they do not need to support legacy software. However, this means that they cannot run programs that you would normally install on a desktop or laptop.
The only thing ARM can do in these situations is use some kind of remote access software to control the machine you run Everquest on. However, as someone else noted, this requires a lot of data to be transmitted to the ARM machine, so it will be sluggish because ARM processors possess less power (not by virtue of being ARM, but simply because they are architected for lower power usage and lower heat production*). Furthermore, you will have to deal with additional latency because your input will have to be transmitted to your main machine remotely and the responses then sent back to the machine you are using to remote access.
*For anyone with a Computer Science background, you might find it interesting that there are no real performance differences between a CISC language and an RISC language (https://research.cs.wisc.edu/vertical/papers/2013/isa-power-struggles-tr.pdf). Performance is largely dictated by the actual micro-architecture of the chip using the instruction set.

If you search the forums, you'll find someone who had Everquest working on a mobile. I cant remember exactly, but I believe he was only able to sit in Oasis. I think it was Pyrocat

He was probably using a remote desktop program.

Any RDP app (for example Microsoft Remote Desktop (https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id714464092?mt=8)) will allow you to remote into a Windoze box from an iPad and operate as if you are at the keyboard. However, I would say it's restricted to EC tunnel type stuff, trying to actually play that way would be virtually impossible.
I've played on a Surface Pro 2 no problem (with a keyboard and mouse connected) if you want a tablet for EQ but thats pretty much a laptop anyway... older Surface RT tablets are not Intel CPUs so you can't play on them.

The new windows tablets are same size as an ipad and some will even have core i3/i5 and decent performance....
I play all the time on my asus Chi T300. With a mouse in tablet mode it's not horrible.

From what I understand ASUS Tablets use Intel processors so since they're x86, they should be capable of playing EQ. Intel Atom chips may be able to play it, but they are very lightweight so even something as old as EQ will still probably melt the chip.

they are not running windows tho right? so most likely a linux variant and you would need a windows emulator on that.
nm i guess some of them are running win 8

Chi T300 runs EQ just fine, doesn't even get hot. Basically a mid to low end laptop or high end tablet depending on how you look at it. I also use the active pen a bunch which is primarily the reason I bought it.
Specs:
CPU: 1.2GHz Intel Core M 5Y71 processor (dual-core, 4MB cache, up to 2.9GHz with turbo boost)
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 5300
RAM: 8GB DDR3L (1600MHz)
HDD: 128gb SSD
OS = windows 8.1 pro x64

Yeah it's kind of a non-issue now. So many small windows tablet devices coming out. And if you bought an iPad you should have just bought a windows tablet. Don't know why anyone would willingly submit to being stuck in Apple land tablets.

Touchscreen is great for scrolling and zooming, so it's very useful for reading PDFs. For FPS games, though, yes, it's terrible.

Man I hate zooming. Every forum I have ever been on has the *stupidly* small page numbers at the bottom of each thread and I always spend so much time trying to click them without zooming in. Why the hell does no one make the page numbers bigger.

A windows tablet with an active digitizer is awesome for PDF markup, art, etc... only a few have this, surface, asus chi, etc.
The chi has hdmi out so any tv becomes a desktop with a bluetooth mouse/kb
ipad is for candy crush and email.
