Naw, not sharing xp with 4 other guys. Going to level way faster. Have done xp with full grp and being the only aoer and it was better by myself.

More people = bigger exp bonus.

Leveling 6 mages and taking over phinny spawn forever.

Kedge off limits

WTS seahorse spine mq

Srsly though we're going to have several tooth groups and zero raids that weekend. All the bards.

In my experience, the pulling/respawn is the real bottleneck.

Ya but the 4 other people are giving you a bigger bonus, which equals more exp per kill. Do you understand how exp bonus works here?

Do you understand how grouping and experience works? It doesn't sound like it. Do you understand sharing 1 mobs experience between 6 people and 2?

With server bonus you get +50%
With group member added you get +40%

100 base experience
+50 for server
+40 for group member
= total of 190 Exp, or 85 exp per person

The bard is saying he would rather get 150 exp per kill than the 85 exp per kill.

If you take that same 100 and add in 40 for 5 other group members it is 350 total exp, divided by 6, is just 58 exp per person.

If the group kills mobs just as fast as the guy soloing would, it is not beneficial for the person to be grouped.

But you level faster with more people in your grp!!! Derubael said so!!!

Basically if you want to know if your group is efficient they need to get the below kills for equal experience.

Group of 1: 1 kill
Group of 2: 1.58 kills
Group of 3: 1.96 kills
Group of 4: 2.22 kills
Group of 5: 2.42 kills
Group of 6: 2.57 kills (not sure what additional bonus for full group is)

Great post. Deserves highlight.

The killrate difference between a 3-4 man PBAOE group and a solo bard. May still be worth adding 2-3 PB AOE'ers into the group versus a solo bards killrate...

But I have no math on it.

I think its worth 1-2 but jamming 6 dudes in a grp because you don't understand everquest is dumb.

Slight nitpick. With a group of two people, the bonus is +80 (not including server bonus), = total exp of 230, or 115 per person.

So your calculations are slightly off here, in addition to your other efficiency table. Which means adding group members is significantly less of a whack to individual exp gains as you've painted here, though still important to note that individual exp gains will always be LESS per mob in a group than solo (probably the most common misunderstanding I've seen on Red).

Source: in Derubs post, he says the total exp bonus in full grp is 290%. If we subtract the server bonus, thats 240%/6 = 40% per group member, including the group leader.

So the group bonus from 1 to 2 people goes from 0-80% then +40% per member after that or does a solo person get the server 50% bonus plus the initial 40% bonus?

That's a good question. I'm not entirely sure, but based on how it is worded it seems to imply that the 40% bonus isn't applied unless there is a group present.

I could probably test this by killing a white solo on blue vs. on red and see if the difference is 50% or 90%. Will report back when I've had a chance to do that.

I've leveled several characters up via Bard PL on this server and it was always more with less people every single time.

This anecdote is useless without some context. How many people in group? What level mobs were you killing? Is your alt a class that had experience penalties before the latest patch?

Either there was a very unique set of circumstances that caused you to get more exp, or you were letting your misconceptions about exp bonuses color your perception of your exp gains.
