I went through a post from 2012 and cobbled this together. Budget is going to be 1-2k maximum. The information was also unclear, saying Wu's QUivering staff is awesome from level 10 onwards, but it doesn't say what weapon to use in the offhand from 10+ along with the Wu's, and what I should use 1-10. Any suggestions? Here's the list I have so far with the prices I've been able to find averages of

5ac/55hp x2 500p
Azure Sleeves 40
Fine Silk Turban 40
Robe of Living Fungus 500
Symbol of Loyalty to Vox x1 55
Wu's Quivering Staff 150p
Lupine Claw Gauntlets 100
Obsidian Bead hoops x2 120p
Wu's Fighting Mantle
Wu's Fighting Mask
Wu's Fighting Sash
Wu's Fighting Slippers
Wu's fighting wristbands x1
Wu's fighting pantaloons
Wu's Fighting Cloak

Think you're confusing Wu's Quivering Staff (2HB) with Master Wu's Trance Stick (1HB). Also not sure Wu's armor is craftable again yet.

I generally advise against looking for specific gear sets like this. Sit in EC for a while and look for armor you like that fits your budget.

Appreciate the advice. However, The sheer amount of gear that goes through EC auction would take a lifetime to sift through. I'd rather nail down as much as I can first.

Good to know The Quivering staff is 2HB. Saves me buying an offhand.

Any suggestions for 1-10 weapons?

Also, if Wu's gear isn't craftable, should I Just replace it with Cured silk? Also, what magic boots to shoot for right out the gate, since I want to be able to land kicks on mobs that require magic weapons.

Quivering staff is fine for a 1-10 weapon, it will just behave as if it was 10 dmg 28 delay. 2x Trance sticks would probably be better though since you get dual wield at level 1.

As far as armor goes, I'd recommend that you find mesh or similar boots and gloves so you have magic strikes and kicks, then just leave it at that and upgrade as you find stuff. Azure sleeves aren't a bad investment since they have solid AC. Either way, put as much of the twinking plat as you can into a "haste item" fund. If you are frugal and hit some of the big money camps while leveling you could have a cheap haste item by your 30s or 40s.

Great thread! I've been struggling to outfit my monk on Red, so don't have much to contribute other than to point out that on Blue there are a few higher level monks who regularly help out younger monks in acquiring the no-drop monk only crescent armor pieces from the Crypt of Dalnir. I know that doesn't help for starting out, but definitely worth looking in to.

Wu's was removed some time ago and I do not believe it has been added back yet, though it will be at some point for sure ^^

Monks are extraordinarily effective even naked and are capable of soloing with nothing but their fists well into their late thirties (and likely beyond, that just happens to be that point at which I was able to acquire a WQS which is indeed awesome). I'd pick up some purses from qeynos for carrying your stuffs (fill them with shuriken and bandages), because they are 4 slot containers, but only weight .2 iirc. The downside is they are small sized, but that doesn't matter much as a monk since you won't be looting any finesteel anyway ^^

The WQS is better than a pair of Wu's trance sticks by a good margin once you have made it out from under the L10 DMG cap. They become a bit more competitive and hand for building aggro around 35 when they start proc'ing. Handy for tanking ^^ the one downside of the WQS is its weight. It is a heavy fricken' stick (9 or 10 stone I believe) whereas WTS only weight 2 each. I'd pick up one just for expediteing L1-10 and for fun/tanking 35'ish plus. Certainly not necessary though.

On the note of magical gloves/boots, hand-to-hand attacks become magical at 35, but that magicalness does not apply to any special attacks like eagle strike or dragon punch. You can get mesh gloves hunting in upper Guk. Sadly you will have to look elsewhere for footware, which the frogs seem to be short on. Maybe try for some gnome skin boots via Tunnelquest or, soft leather boots from befallen.

I also recommend Medicine Bags for early monkly bags. They're 1-2 plat each I believe and can be found on vendors in many cities. 8 slot bag with .4 weight.

Excellent info so far.

Man I really want to lock down some magical footwear before Dalnir.

On the upside, I'm suuuper excited.

My monk is half geared atm or I'd offer to run you through Dalnir when you reach level 20 or so. Rogue can't handle the heat lol

Check out some Wolf Fur Slippers for magic feet. They're the best wt to cost ratio I could find myself.

I wouldn't worry too much about magic feet until you get flying kick. You could just use tiger claw/eagle strike until then. That gives you some time to find something.

At lv 30 when you get flying kick all your kicks become magical anyways. Not worth it to find magic shoes.

They don't actually ^^ Interestingly, only your hand-to-hand auto attacks become magical. Not even your special hand attacks become magical. I spent a few levels crying in CoM, when I received INVULNERABLE messages every time I lept through the air, foot first into one of the beasties.
