Im still learning my Shaman, currently lvl 39, but I keep hearing a lot about this spell and how game changing it is. I was wondering if someone could explain why? How would you use it in a rotation?
Thanks!

it's just an incredibly mana efficient heal over time

Step 1: Cast Torpor on yourself
Step 2: Spam eat your own face (canni)
Step 3: Chuckle as your health bar doesnt go down but mana bar goes up
Step 4: Profit

Torpor heals 300/tick for 4 or 5 ticks, so 1200 or 1500 health, and only costs 200 mana.
The next best heal is Superior Healing which gives 583 health for 250 mana.
For your canni cycle, Superior Heal essentially breaks even, and wouldn't be worth heal, canni, heal. Torpor + Canni, you end up having more health then you spend cannibalizing for the mana to cast it, so you can cannibalize further for your other spells.
It's also terribly funny to cast on someone trying to run from a train.

Don't you need to be grouped with the person you're trying to cast it on?

It's over 1200 hp for 125 mana
It's just simply overpowered. It's pretty much a design/coding mistake. It's the #1 reason why people play Shaman - they require less than zero skill to operate and still have some of the most powerful abilities in the game.

Classicly Torpor cost 200 mana and drained 50 mana per tick. This made it cost 400 mana to cast on yourself and drained 200 mana from another target if you cast on them.
That extra penalty made it far more balanced.
Due to a bug or oversight this mana drain was removed in late Kunark.
1200 HP for 400 mana is a lot more balanced.

Thankfully, there's a pretty steep monetary barrier on this server that prevents all but the most dedicated (or twinked) shamans from having access to Torpor. I think there would be far less clerics if Torpor was purchaseable from a vendor.

Step 1, Get torpor
Step 2, Get torpor
Step 3, Bump thread wtb torpor for weeks
Step 4, Be confused why Torpor only drops in like 2 places in the game aside from raid targets.
Step 5, Roll an alt.

Yes
Aside from allowing Shammies to regain mana very fast and be excellent backup healers for raids (although I recall more than one tank saying "Let me die unsnared please!") with Torpor you can torpor yourself, pull a bunch of mobs with AOE slow, then root them at your leisure to epic rot. Between the lowered damage output from the slow and the constant 300hp pulses from Torpor makes breaking camps solo much easier... send in the torpored 55 pet to absorb all the HTs before the AOE slow for extra credit :)

^^All the cookies for you
Costs 400 hp to cast a torp (through canni)
1200hp minimum HP restored per cast, 1500 if you land the torp at primetime (not including 200hp cast fee)

That's awesome. Too bad after you got it you still had to play on red.

Nah red isn't bad tbh. Easy to level up, easy to find groups. Things a shaman would want to camp are usually open. And if they are not pvp usually solves that.

torpor is incredibly cheap on red compared to blue because the economy isn't as inflated, and when we had a chokehold on pretty much all kunark raid content we didn't charge out the ass for it either
we had like 9 copies of torpor in our guildbank after like 4 months and sold them out for 10-15k a piece
