January 2001 - Era has been enabled:

Class XP Penalties have been removed.
Group XP is no longer averaged to compensate for XP Modifiers (Class Bonuses, Racial Bonuses/Penalties).
Root and Movement Speed type effects will now stack.
Blue Diamond jewelry is now craftable. Previous pieces of Blue Diamond jewelry which were statless abbreviations should now function properly.
Guardian Trekolz now spawns in Skyshrine.


Code

Rogean: All mobs >= level 60 now have a small chance to triple attack on mainhand.
Rogean: Flurry will now include offhand swings as well. Previously it was only another round of mainhand.
Rogean: Flurry now resets special attack timer (Kick/Bash).
Haynar: Pathing improvements
Haynar: Fixed some mob ghosting issues.
Haynar: Mobs should not longer spin around when they start fleeing while rooted. They should stop rotating now when they reach their desired heading.
Haynar: If a mob is rooted while fleeing/feared, it will maintain its current heading.
Haynar: If you get rooted by an NPC, when they move to combat range to hit you, they should now move close enough that you can hit them too.
Haynar: When NPCs become unstunned, they will now send their position update that they have started moving to clients, so they will no longer appear to warp ahead.
Haynar: Fixes for mobs falling below World.
Haynar: Partial resists on fear spells should now round their adjusted duration down instead of up.

Content

small patch considering jan patch has stuff like this



- The "Resistant" Discipline now lasts 5 minutes instead of the
previous 1.
- The "Holy Forge" Discipline now lasts 5 minutes instead of the
previous 2.
- The "Weaponshield" Discipline now lasts 20 seconds instead of the
previous 15.
- The "Leechcurse" Discipline now lasts 20 seconds instead of the
previous 15.
- The "Deftdance" Discipline now lasts 15 seconds instead of the
previous 10.
- The "Puretone" Discipline now lasts 4 minutes instead of the previous
2.
- The "Sanctification" discipline now lasts 15 seconds instead of the
previous 10.
- The "Unholy Aura" Discipline now gives a 50% bonus to Harmtouch
(compared with the previous 25%) and causes it to save versus disease,
which should result in even fewer resists in most high-level
encounters.
- "Lay on Hands" has been improved starting at 40th level.
- The "Summon Corpse" spell is now available to Shadowknights.
- "Harmtouch" is now resisted as if it were a "Lifetap" spell, meaning
that it is all-or-nothing, and nearly unresistable with exception to
encounters that are immune to magic or out of the acceptable level
range. In addition, maximum damage for Harmtouch has been increased
starting at 40th lev
- Melee attack timers will no longer be reset when a SK, Paladin, or
Ranger cast a spell. Previously these classes had to wait a full attack
delay after casting before they would attack via melee again.

This information has been given to attempt to make lifetaps "classic" i.e. proper in the past yet the standard rhetoric was given to why lifetaps are the way they are... hopefully now we are "at that spot" on the timeline we should see lifetaps moved to the above mentioned resists.

In velious the fact that SK's can essentially keep themselves alive during most encounters while others have to duck in and out make them more viable- this can only happen when lifetaps (as per above) are nigh unresistable - it also makes necro's able to lifetap burn their mana bars for dps rather than just be cool looking mana batteries.

Maybe this was already done, as I have not really been very active- and the raids I have done in ToV have been a odd mixed bag on the lifetapability of foes.

Looking forward to leechcurse being more useable and HT bombs coming into play...if they are not resisted...i.e. see above!

P99 is going on a monthly patch system. Currently we are in January and should have all patches up to 01/31/01. Next patch should bring us up to all patches to 02/28/01. That next patch will include the EC Spell merchants for all those new balance spells like Druid, shaman and paladin heals

I don't understand why not just set it to the classic 350k. Setting any higher just sets the raid size requirement, more specifically the Rogue/Dragonbane Wizard requirement higher.

In its last version Rampage was bringing 15 clerics and 14 rogues and nearly running out of cleric mana.

I'm curious to see how this version goes for them. But even leaving him at half of his former 1million HP, is asking guilds to contend with healing a dragon for an extra 150k HP. That's a long time for any guild without 10+ Level 60 rogues on hand. Which is all of them but one.

His melee DPS and tank swap/CH Chain check is sufficient enough to make him the gatekeeper to Vulak/NToV cleared. I don't think keeping his health unclassic is necessary for balance at all.

Well maybe there is hope for mage pets not getting charmed by bards/chanters since custom content is on the table now. PRAS

I checked this morning. The merchant from the wiki is there, but the spell is not. Because it is a level 51 spell, it may be in FV and not Kelethin. I'll check FV tonight.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the content not being repoped/reset when they implemented the changes? That could have just been where they were trying to modify the hitboxes and it changed the size also.

Or have they been replaced with the nerfed version with limited charges? These were supposed to be nerfed very early in velious (first week from what I've read) and the pre-nerf version was INSANELY rare on live.

Working as intended. Haynar was quite clear during the upcoming change to epics thread that keeping your epic equipped, but not meeting the level requirement, would have the game treat you as not having it equipped. You are probably missing because your hand to hand skill is terrible.

Cool then that means mine is still equipped at least. I can go back to sitting my 30 ranger in EC afk on blue. Instead of attempting to level him to 46.

Commenting on the rarity most people didn't want to kill dwarves or know to kill the council when Velious came out originally causing them to be rare even if they were dropping for ~6 months. People not knowing the nerfs were coming didn't put as much emphasis on getting as many as they could loaded up on mules.

Same thing with Circlet of Shadow. Most people just didn't know about the camp down in Droga for them or have 4 years to farm them. The very few people that did go to Droga commonly just farmed Sooth and Chief. I would imagine a lot of them rotted due to being lore and people camping the whole thing not knowing they would be nerfed in Velious and ferrying them out to mules.

The first definitive evidence of the charged ornate velium pendant I could find is on 4/19/01 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zones.html?zstrat=120#m98770047515679) exactly 4 months + 2 weeks into Velious.

It is extremely strange that there is no mention of the item ever before that date, in fact there is no mention of the pre-nerf version either. The allakhazam page for the charged version was not even created until April 20th, 2001. The unlimited charge version didn't show up on zam until 2004 and there is very little info on it at all. I don't see how it is possible for an item to drop for 4.5 months and not be documented. People were in icewell hunting for armor drops often enough in early velious weren't they?

Is it possible that the original unlimited charge pendant was removed from EQ on day 3 of Velious with this patch note

Corrected loot drops in Thurgadin

and then re-introduced as a charged version in the large patch on April 17 2001 patch but it went undocumented?

One thing is for sure, the amount of unlimited charge ornate velium pendants currently on p1999 is not classic.

The first definitive evidence of the charged ornate velium pendant I could find is on 4/19/01 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zones.html?zstrat=120#m98770047515679) exactly 4 months + 2 weeks into Velious.

It is extremely strange that there is no mention of the item ever before that date, in fact there is no mention of the pre-nerf version either. The allakhazam page for the charged version was not even created until April 20th, 2001. The unlimited charge version didn't show up on zam until 2004 and there is very little info on it at all. I don't see how it is possible for an item to drop for 4.5 months and not be documented. People were in icewell hunting for armor drops often enough in early velious weren't they?

Is it possible that the original unlimited charge pendant was removed from EQ on day 3 of Velious with this patch note

Well if that was the patch note, it would be incorrect as they drop in Icewell and not Thurgadin. Not completely unprecedented to have a typo/wrong zone reference...

I would assume the reason there is little information on them is the Coldain tended to be everyone's first faction they were friendly with. Mostly because it became a trading hub and every race/class combination by default started non-KoS there and the most dungeon-like zones (Kael/Skyshrine) were far better grouping options than Thurg/Icewell are.

Most posts on EQClerics regarding Icewell either are Dain raids or Basement farm groups for spells/gems (which don't seem to happen here). Few people mention killing Coldain there but not many.

No lay hands update? With velious gear the current state of LoH is laughable. Not even a 40% heal on my paladin let alone a useful heal on a warrior.

Wizzy AE snare (Atol's Spectral Shackles) broke with this patch. With 4 mobs stacked on top of each other, only the targeted mob gets snared. This is going to make Wiz life very difficult until it's fixed since nobody wants us in groups =\

Some classes had xp penalties (monk 20%, paladin 40%, etc) while others had bonus's (warrior +10% rogue +9%). In addition some races have penalties (iksar/troll 20%) while halflings have a bonus (+5%). In a group these penalties and bonus's were shared.

So if two people were grouped and killed a mob worth 100 xp, it would divide it up based on those things. For characters with no bonus or penalty it would be an even 50:50 split. But lets say one character had a 50% penalty, they'd get 75 points of the xp while the other player would get 25 points of the xp. Visually they would level at the same rate since the character with the penalty needs more xp for the same level.

Now all class penalties are gone. And racial bonus's and penalties aren't shared anymore. So halfling warriors are going to level even faster!

I see so halfling warriors will level even faster but be less beloved by groups who no longer share in their bonus? so penalty races will level slower, but at the same time be less hated... then again.. no one ever hated sharing the racial experience penalty just the class one... maybe I should reroll my ogres into halflings! thanks for the clear explanation!

Just wondering, are the druid heal spells live now? What about cultural armors? Do they still require high lvl gems to make?

I was wondering the same thing about cultural armors enchant metal spells gem requirements. They were removed on live in the April 17, 2001 patch.

As a young boy, my guild was a giant faction guild and thusly killed many many dwarves....even as a Giant faction guild, we did not hunt the councilors unless we were in 'faction raid' mode which I still dont remember killing them or getting any necklaces. 99% of the groups in Icewell were hunting for gems at the bottom ( rarely ) or hunting for the nice looking Plate armor that drops from the Sentinels etc.

The royal throne room was intimidating to pull from as Dain was up, usually did not bother tagging things out of there let alone have necros and shamans waiting for Councilors in their private bedrooms for slaughter.

Technically Icewell is an extension of Thurgadin, also known as ThurgadinB so it is not even a stretch to say that patch note was referencing Icewell. The droppable loot table in ThurgadinA was also fairly empty so I am trying to think of what else that patch note would even reference. Another interesting point is the original comment I linked said a Lorekeeper dropped the pendant which almost makes me thinks it was dropping in ThurgadinA too because there are Lorekeepers there as well.

It is kind of curious that there is no mention of it on anywhere until April 19th, then over the next few weeks in April/May 2001 there are a half of dozen unique references archived in various places. That seems like more than a coincidence to me and points to the charged version of the item having not been in the game up to that point.

The pre-nerf pendant was one of the rarest items in the history of EQ and with just a handful ever known to exist I am going to stick to my theory that it was removed from the game right away and fell into the hands of only a few dwarf slaying adventurers on the first few days of Velious and then later introduced in April 2001 as the charged version.

Things that weren't supposed to be dropping were dropping in Thurg in the mines and off other stuff. They just fixed the drops.

Sorry to bother you. My boyfriend and I have played project 1999 in the past but its been a bit. We tried playing just recently and we do not have the latest patch. Were pretty technically inclined (well at lease I am lol) but I cant figure out how to install the latest patch after hours of trying to figure it out. So, you are our last hope. When we go to the character screen it says our spells are out of date. So I went and extracted the V40 patch and saved it all in one file on my desktop. I read the entire section about patching in the getting started section. "These files must overwrite any existing files encountered during extraction into your Titanium directory" ... I guess I don't know where my titanium directory is to start this process. I tried just opening the files and placing in the Rescorce file and the spell file, but I guess that wont overwrite anything. So now I am stuck . Please point me in the right direction so I can correctly add the patch and start playing the game again. Thank you for what you do and all of your hard work. Thanks again, Danielle and Ian

If you don't know where you installed EQ, check the properties on the shortcut you click on to play Everquest, it should have the folder location there. That is the folder you need to extract the patch into.

Or you could search your hard drive for the file "eqgame.exe" using file explorer and whichever folder contains that file, that is the folder you need to extract the patch into.

If you did not change the folder name of where EQ Titanium was to be installed then look for Sony folder and the everquest folder should be inside there.
