I got this error that says
"The instruction at 0x0000000002CB45B4 referenced memory at 0x000000000390F0E4. The memory could not be read.

Click OK to terminate the program."

This only happens when the game is "Loading Character Equipment Files".
I dont know what's causing this so help would be nice. I'm running Windows 10 by the way. Thanks in advance.

I am getting the exact same error message, I even tried to play the game by launching the .bat file as admin which says the game could not be found and closes immediately my system specs are Windows 10 Pro N AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.90GHz 4 GB RAM on a 64 - bit operating system, x64based processor, the only way I could circumvent this is by using WINEQ2 client to play the game which works to a degree and can be found here http://lavishsoft.com/ but now when playing my characters they will start off running normally and periodically warp (or like when swimming when you do a breast stroke) glide backwards a tad and run slow for a couple seconds and then resume full speed for the life of me I can't figure this out I'm thinking maybe a bad animation file but I've done complete re-installs 3 times with no luck the game is playable but running speed is akin to being encumbered all of the time which makes for very tedious play any suggestions would be helpful

I am seeing the exact same problem, is there no fix for this? I'm on Windows 10 as well.

Make sure to run EQ as an administrator, also set it to run in compatibility mode.

Another potential fix for this error is to go into your eqclient.ini file (I think?) and change your resolution settings there to match the native resolution of your display.

Don't run EQ from the default install location either. I ended up having to do a fresh install from the CD ISO's to a root directory. The program files directory didn't work due to write permissions.

Deleting ini file and starting fresh can also help. Make sure resolutions match desktop.

I did all those and now it gives slightly different errors.

Yeah, I also moved EQ folder.

So the fix turned out to be uninstalling Java and installing the latest version 8 u60. Strange.

My EQ is in my games folder. It's also called P99, if that has anything to do with it.

I had this same issue. It happens because of resolution and compatibility settings. Keep messing around with them. It will work. I used XP and changed both game and computer resolutions and it worked!!!!

For those saying to change compatibility settings and run as administrator: Do you mean the everquest.exe? because I can't change compatibility settings for Project1999.bat and when I run it as administrator, I just get an error "Windows could not find eqgame".

You change compatibility settings on an executable. If you have a .bat that references or calls a .exe, that is ok, but if you are going to try and mess with compatibility, it's with the .exe.

I had this error and the only thing that resolved it was a fresh install.

After I got it working, I made a backup of my EQ directory. I was good for a long time and this reared it's ugly head again last month. Deleted current EQ directory, copied over old EQ directory, voila problem solved for me.

Changing compatibility, messing with settings, etc did nothing for me. Reinstall, get it working, and back it up.

Thank you to everyone who helped! If anyone runs into my chain of problems, run compatability mode for eqgame not everquest.exe.

After struggling all day to get this working and reading through all kinds of solutions I finally managed it. I'm assuming this will solve the problem for at least a few others also so I figured I'd post what I did:

Move eq folder our of program files (if you've located it there during installation)
Change resolution in eqclient.ini to match screen resolution
right click eqgame.exe and run in xp compatibility mode
start game
and voila..

I'm guessing a lot of people quickly figured this out but I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to pc's so...for you other noobs, hope it helps!
