View Full Version : How rich are you?

Following this thread (http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=20985) where a player had amassed 21 million plat by duping, it got me wondering about the P99 economy. The server's been running a year now, so some players must have a fair chunk of cash in the bank.

Regardless of whether you're a high end phat lewt whore or a level 1 toon that lives in the East Commonlands Tunnel, and aside from how much you've spent on gear (or how much you've spent getting tradeskills up), how much have you got stashed away?

Also, while I'm at it, what's your plat earning capability? My highest toon is 10, but have a level 8 DE Enchanter that does the Stein of Moggok run in 2-3 hours, depending on how lucky I am with SoWs/ports/bixies/fish/boats/buyers. I then sell for 250-350 plat, so I guess I can average roughly 125pp per hour. Ignoring the time it took to make a level 8 DE Enchanter :-)

I've got enough (A lot, I'm greedy) money and items, but my true wealth comes from many friends in and out of my wonderful guild. GROUP HUG!!

I think I have roughly 22K in assets, probably a bit more but it's unclear (I have an impskin gloves waiting to be sold and a bunch of other seafury jewelry that I haven't sold yet, so I don't know). I tried various methods of making money on my Bard, and by far the fastest is seafuries. There's actually a method of killing them that's quite quick (it allows me to kill about 1 every 3 minutes), at least, quick for a Bard. I don't think I kill nearly as fast as mages or necros do, but I certainly kill them fast enough to make it worthwhile.

Also, while I need to regen mana (because, you guessed it, the method of killing them involves charm) I just go AFK on "hide" and do homework or something. It's a good way to balance playing eq a healthy amount with being able to get the most out of my playtime.

edit: why aren't there as many serious answers! I want to hear about the amount of money people have.

Not Enough.

Actually: Not nearly enough. Having to sell a piece of my gear to buy spells sucks.

I have eight characters, the highest of which is my level 31 shaman. I tend to spend plat as I get it rather than hoard; I think I have around 700 on the shaman and a combined total of ~200 on the other characters. Gear-wise, not counting some stuff Tralina gave me, my total net worth (counting gear and money) is probably closer to around 3k. I made a decent amount of money with the shaman at 25 when I started alchemy; did a LOT of running between EC and Oggok. I was also lucky enough to find a Platinum Dragon Totem (I think that's what it's called, anyway) on an Oggok merchant for like 13pp and sell it in EC for several hundred plat, as well as kill a rare low level hill giant in North Karana and have him drop a 5 INT belt (Giants Reminder String) which I sold in EC for something like 800pp.

EXPing right now on my shaman gets me somewhere around 50pp an hour, maybe. Making potions is harder to say because of how unreliable selling them is (especially if you have competition), but if you're lucky, you can profit 500ish platinum in an hour of making potions, going to EC, and waiting for buyers. Usually it's much slower than that. This is just making the lower-level potions, of course; I can't make the portal potions that raiding guilds want at my level, nor can I afford the money to level the skill up that high. Probably am never going to bother.

I made my first "k" the other night (lvl 28 penny pincher).. and then promptly blew it all on my first piece of Lambent and a bracer, so I have somewhere around 55pp 8g 9s 2c but who's counting really??

Resist gear is going to be pretty rough to obtain.

I'll be honest, at this moment I have close to 80k. I don't consider it bragging because I don't have a secret method, I hit 50 and farmed items. I got lucky at level 28 and got a GBS while camping the Millers and sold it for 10k for a good start. Farmed a few granite bracers, bought and sold in EC...just a bit of everything, I've been playing since April though and no item on either of my characters is worth over 1k, if that, guess I could be considered cheap.

Hummm, in total, I have made maybe 3k since I started. I spent a lot of time in Erud's Crossing farming GLS. I then turned around and bought myself gear. Between that and fletching, it went away pretty fast. I think I have 150 in the bank. I am level 31 at the moment.

I dont know how you people are so broke. Both in game and IRL. I am a fairly casual player. I have two 50's and between them about 20 days played since about March 2010. I have never farmed anything. I just loot EVERYTHING and save up all my money and as I get enough I buy WR bags. By the time I have a couple WR bags I am in to looting the FS and words/pg's/runes worth 1pp+. I continue to save for more WR bags and also xp at places to get the bags (Crusder and kill EE while your at it. Also while your there people get light burlap sacks that they cant loot and call it in OOC) and I continue to loot everything worth plat. Now with my two 50's I have about 50k in gear (cause half is no drop plannar gear) and about 12k cash sitting in bank and another 15-20k in items to sell if I ever get the time.

IRL: Not rich...$250,000 condo but $180,000 mortgage. about 10k in savings and 3k in checking acct.

I wish i could just buy WR bags in real life and loot everything :)

Or for those of us who WERE poor and unemployed (or rich and/or spoiled teenagers) 12 years ago and have had a chance to live fast and hard since they got fed up with Luclin and since we heard of P99 we now sit on top of our wealth dead to society reliving the point before it all went wrong.

Or, uh, people who were CEOs when EQ first came out and they didn't realize that it was so bad, and they've since lost their jobs but still have a lot of money.. that's more like me.

EQ is awesome. You can't BUY a game like this anymore.

2 level 50's in 8 months is casual play. Not to mention that they only have 20 days played split between them (yeah I had some guildies PL). I dont see where the confusion is.

The planar gear I have only recently just recived. being a pally its easy to get plannar gear cause I am usually the only one on the raid.

Two level 20s in 8 months is casual play, in my book.

I generally play about 4 days a week for 1 - 2 hours at a time, often times much less. I took my time between 10 and 20, farmed a lot of HQ pelts and GLS, decked out both my characters as I went. I dabbled in some trade skills, traveled the world, and did a good deal of EC trading. I'd say I solo'd about 75% and grouped the other 25%. Never got any power leveling up until this point aside from the lucky DS from time to time. I also have a third level 15 character which I stopped playing.

Both my level 20s (monk and bard) have probably close to 3k in gear a piece, mostly self earned, but admittedly I came by a fair amount of freebies along the way as well. I currently only have about 100pp in cash though. Most i've held at once was about 500 plat.

Since we're including real life cash, I graduated college close to 2 years ago. The past 6 months I have been able to maintain about 10k in the bank, though various people owe me about 4k on top of that.

My idea of casual is different I suppose.

Personally I wouldn't call having 2 characters at max level with best in slot raiding gear casual. When people called themselves casual I usually assume that means they don't raid and generally don't have multiple max level characters. I thought that was a generally accepted definition, but I guess it's a little more liquid. :P
