That link is a start to seeing how creepy windows 10 really is and how to get rid of some the the tracking.
Basically, windows 10 by default automatically checks the licenses of programs every time you open them to check for valid licenses. And this is just the start. These changes are also being pushed into windows 7/8 atm. Everyday people are digging deeper, discovering weirder, stranger, and ultimately horrifying things about Microsoft and windows 10.
Its really about time people stop submitting to Daily prostate checks.

Man, I posted a workaround for most of this junk in one of your threads weeks ago. Since then, there have been a ton more released.
We get it. Windows 10 is spyware. Dead horse is beaten.

Clearly not enough people are getting it through their heads. Especially since Microsoft continues to optimistically roll these things out with no issues.
Maybe when microsoft starts sending data to local pd's everytime they open a song they downloaded and then get a visit by sed local pd, people will care.

It's been going on for a while. They had programs similar to Stingray, Prism, and others for decades or more. This time they're just throwing caution to the wind about it. Joe Plumber and Jill Soccermom are too overworked, underpaid, and worn out to be driven to give a shit by it.

people would get behind a solution, but there are no alternatives. apple is the same and linux is too complicated for most. ubuntu is easy, but is the same deal. the people need a new OS.

Unbutu is the same deal? Really? I am serious, not being sarcastic.
A couple people I know use it and told me there isn't half the crap Microsoft OS has. :(

There are some Linux alternatives to Ubuntu that aren't terrible, but none are as easy to use as Ubuntu.
For the most part, it's a matter of either living without, or living with less and accepting that whatever you put up on the web, or connect to the web, is pretty much going to be checked out by someone.
We're in a cycle of sacrificing privacy and personal freedoms in exchange for perceived security and convenience.
Going to be a long uphill battle to fix it.

Those updates were for mostly for Xbox One, IIRC. They just got bundled into the generic Microsoft T&C. I know for a fact that the 'unauthorised hardware' thing was simply about Xbox hardware, while the pirate software was only for Microsoft software.
The privacy concerns are exaggerated, but are mostly true. They're also easy enough to fix with the "Ultimate Windows Tweaker" third-party software.
What people are ignoring is that Windows 10 is free for a good reason. It's nothing to do with spyware and everything to do with microtransactions. Why charge $200 for an OS when you can charge them $10 a shot for 25 apps which they were expecting to get for free?

Mint (http://www.linuxmint.com/)... (Cinnamon edition is Ubuntu, but how it should have been)

im one of those people who believes that the internet should not be a means for big business profiteering. i know thats a ridiculous concept these days, but ive been using the internet since before it was so obviously a thing.
im more than just metadata on someones server, and i think its unfair that they view me as such. maybe i didnt explain that correctly.

I have been rolling with XP on most my machines, but found VGO emu requires .NET 4.52. And so am looking to upgrade to win7.
Is windows the only option for most major PC games, or can you finagle hem to work on Linux? I've heard of Wine, but am unfamiliar with how it works. Is it essentially a windows emulator?

Major games? I doubt you will be playing the latest Far Cry via Wine any time soon, but a lot of indies release native Linux versions and even Steam runs under Ubuntu. Unreal and Unity (the two most commonly-used engines) can both compile for Linux, but that doesn't mean that everyone does. Valve has been helping pressure people to make their games run under Linux and it helps, but you need to look into specific games before you go buying them or installing Linux on your PC. Most of them need a 64-bit version of Linux, so you need a multi-core PC (more than one processor) to run it.
That said, I think you'll get more games running on Ubuntu (or Mint or half a dozen other Linux distributions) than you will under Windows XP. Wine (technically WINE -> Wine Is Not Emulation) is just a Linux program which fakes a windows environment well enough for most older games. Everquest, for example, runs very well under Wine. Some people need to set processor affinities, but that's actually easier than it sounds.
The big thing to remember with Wine is that they actually have >a database of games (https://appdb.winehq.org/)< on their site where people have written notes on which games run, how well they run and any Linux-specific bugs. If you had concerns about a specific game, check the database. Even when there are bugs, people write about how to work around them.
If you can burn a DVD, you can try many of the Linux distributions without even needing to install. They won't run as fast, but they will give a you a taste of how easy it will be to adapt. I recommend >64-bit Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition (http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=190)< unless you still have a single-core PC, but everyone has their own preferences.

Thanks Ments! Is there a way to make .NET 4.5 work with WINE, or would I have to actually use windows for that? I'll check out the Mint Cinnamon that you suggested. I've a phenom 9950, so I think my hardware is ok (maybe a couple generations behind) I've just stuck with XP because it worked and I am familiar with it ^^

Just found out last night....because I don't pay attention that MSE on Win7 sends ALL file data scanned info whether it's a virus or not to Microsoft DB servers.

Wine uses Mono, which is basically .NET for Linux and Mac. It usually works, but it depends what parts of .NET each program uses.
