There are a lot of people on blue server and I talked to some of them and they are having a fun time, but these are probably not raiding players.
Word on the streets is that seeing /ooc on red makes people throw up and quit instantly. Maybe a good idea to implement the regional OOC or standard classic EQ ooc system.
Just speculating here.

I fully agree. People will respond to this by saying those who don't like OOC should just put it in a separate window and minimize it. That does not, in fact, solve the problem. The problem is that OOC gives people a very negative impression of what people are like on Red. Most people don't want to play on a server that contains some of these OOC garbage talkers. Plus, seeing people act like jerks in OOC gives other players permission to act like jerks as well. It reinforces itself. Finding a way to separate out the garbage or perhaps eliminate a completely global chat channel would allow Red to become a better place.

Never liked global OOC, feel like auction should be global, throttled and for ports/lfg/auctions. OOC could be continent/area based, or global in cities.
That said, Vouss makes a good point.

Which is why we have a server with a population of 300 Max. Letting the inmates run the Asylum.
One dedicated GM (to watch OOC, take care of RED ONLY petitions/Reports) will go a LONG way in making this server not a complete shitbox.

No offense, but your way is like trying to cure an epidemic by hiding all the infected.
Eliminating global chat or making the OOC "LFG only" does not solve the problem. You will still have the same toxic people in your community. If you want to cure a disease you need to treat it at the source. The solution is to outcast and shun the players that make Red an undesirable box to play. Once they are off your server, you can commence having a nice OOC chat box.

Why not just use your PvP tools? If you see a toxic player in the OOC, the entire server should address it by creating a manhunt and killing his character until he is forced off the server. After a while, you'll see players behave. :)

People can be jerks, they can act like jerks, whatever.
The problem is that OOC allows flamboyant mean players a norrath wide channel to put their nonsense out there.
Because OOC is a general channel, most players are not going to turn it off.
Additionally, most new to the server guys don't even know how to turn off chat channels, and by the time they figure it out, the damage will have been done, since they have already spent a lot of time seeing what goes on in /ooc
It is bad for classic, it is bad for server experience and it is bad for server growth. You log into red and feel surrounded by toxic.
Regular grief and the normal interactions on the server are nothing like the non stop 100% of the time poison coming from OOC.
So that is why I was thinking maybe OOC is bad. And then how Agatha likes OOC so much seems like a good indicator of its badness? Maybe maybenot

Vallon used to be like this. LnS was played enforced, you didn't attack naked people or train, people that shit talked ended up blackballed from any decent guild.
This server isn't as toxic as you'd think. If you watch ooc it's a lot of the same people and their alts. I mean everything says something stupid sometime, but the main offenders are the same people looking for attention and approval.

Yes, the current global OOC gives a false impression of the toxicity of the server.
And unfortunately the majority of guys here try to think of themselves as "elite PK awesome guys" which they never were on live. People with this mind set would have been the extreme minority of any live PVP server but it is not the case here. These type of players are not the ones that will community police anything.

When I first created a char on red I was dismayed by the insults and trash talk in /ooc, and I almost left. I don't mind PvP of course, but the talk in /ooc made the server seem like it was full of jerks. But I try to ignore it (although I find it useful for /auction), and the players who I've actually interacted with have been great.

Global /ooc is to support the LnS system, as lackluster as that may be. Get rid of LnS and you can get rid of gobal /ooc, not that I care personally. I look at it when I want to, and ignore it otherwise.

That's a tough question cause it really depends on who you ask. You'll start to notice pretty quick though. It's a lot worse on the boards because you end up ignoring over half of the people.
Once you've ignored the desperate for attention/approval people in ooc and on message boards, it's a whole different less annoying game though.

if red server /ooc makes you quit it's not like you were going to last longer than a week 50+ on red anyways. so who cares.
Gustoo

Its ridiculously easy to avoid contested pvp zones and troublesome players on red level 50+ especially with velious + kunark. Only big money areas and now faction grinding spots are ever very occupied because they put dinner on the table.
So yeah a lot of potential players that leave because OOC makes them think this server is super nasty would probably stick around and have a great time cruising through the game with occasional pvp.
+ by the time they get to 50 they are unlikely to jump ship.
+ if they are going to 60 they will enjoy joining empire or its equivalent and getting lots of loot.
So no problemos.

Tala maybe you should talk to Slathar then? Dude spends 6 hours a day spaming ooc with jibberish in an attempt to troll people. It really doesnt help the server to spread lies and try and accuse people of all kinds of shit, when newer players to the server might not realize hes just a drunk troll looking for laughs.
The reality is that 99% of what you see in ooc and read on the forums is bullshit but it takes most new people to the community months to figure out, and some get overwhelmed and just leave before it gets to that point.

I am fairly new here, coming from live..
I would agree the /ooc channel is disturbing, I see people named fandango and engelburt spamming ooc with how th are the best players on the server in caps locks over and over and even on their alts, their guild leaders do not seem to care or punish them for their ignorance and I thought being a guild leader meant that you took actions to promote growth of your guild and server health not only getting picks at all costs..
Then you have people typing song lyrics out and spamming, talking about sex and other none EQ topics...
I almost quite after 3 months on red being forced to read this garbage have me a headache, the only way to ignore it is to become ignorant yourself and use apathy... I mean how could you not care when people say offensive things?
And don't get me started on the spam of people selling items and spamming the same item every 20 seconds !
I'd like to se at the very least a global auction channel and enforced ooc bans for people selling in ooc..
Or maybe we could open a second channel for everything and anything that could be ignored or turned off and that way ooc was for game related topics like seeking ports, lfg, asking questions, ect

A global channel that ANYONE can use whenever is a bit much. I would be joyful if global ooc was taken away. Its just a shit show. Yes, there are auctions and that part has been good. However I wouldn't mind just logging into my mule in NFP or checking the forums if I wanted to buy something.
For now, I just ignore a lot of people, but it is like a sewage pipe that never stops spewing out shit and garbage.

Have you ever talked with Slathar? I wish you could chat with him in Teamspeak for 15 minutes. I thought Slathar was a dangerous lunatic until I was guilded with him in <Good Guys>. He is hilarious, thoughtful, conscientious, and brilliant. He cracks me up all the time. Interesting that what he says actually bothers you. I'm curious to find out if people feel the same way about Engleburt, Farzo, and Fandango/Shydagger. If so, maybe it's all in the perspective we have depending on our relationship to these people.
I think the main problem people in OOC are the ones who insult each other after PvP, calling each other bad and accusing each other of plugging, hacking, griefing, etc. That kind of message makes PvP scary and uncomfortable instead of fun and exciting. I wish you could just win or just lose, but if you lose people sometimes say things to discourage you and if you win people might say things to try to invalidate your victory. I guess one has to build the inner strength to push through this.

So, the problem isn't "Waa I have to read garbage in OOC;" it's "These people are not fun to play with." In my opinion, it's the perception of the playerbase that we're working on here. That is what makes players want to be part of Red (or not).

Hm! This simple measure might just solve it. This would force people's flame wars into /tells; yet still allow auctioning as well as advice for newbies; and it would even allow people to say one thing after PvP. (You decide whether it will be "GF" or "fgt.")
