Bard. Since everything in blue is camped.
What can I expect?

If you started in Kelethin, that's good - there'll be others around.
If you started in Qeynos, put the wind tunnel sound effect up to 100%...it's gonna get lonely :p
Speak with Avomon, he'll get you into Thunderdome and you'll meet plenty of like minded new pals :)

stick to a zoneline if u dont know someone whos on the zone, learn to plug. look for grps on /ooc, hard to start, get a port to gfay, crushbone/unrest/mistmoore area. after that ull be going. gluck

*sigh*
This isn't RNF, krazy. Stay in your lane with that.
Seems like there's been more new bards in GFay than anything else I've seen there (started as a bard on red myself; just ran mail from Felwithe to get to 5, need to look for a group next time I try logging in).

The OP asked what to expect. That wasn't a rant or a flame just a sentiment that is felt by many who play here and if the quote is real then one of the servers creators. There is a guild here that enjoys easy mode PvE which appears to be their main focus.
Love them, hate them, or indifferent the Zerg guild has existed in some form and has been a major topic on this server for years.
To the OP you should expect groups during most hours and very fast exp to at least 40. I see bards swarm kiting karanas if you want to try that.

Well, I too just recently started on red and I rolled a bard. It was shitty, somewhat, getting to level 8. I am not super social though. I started in Qeynos, sometimes there were a few players grouping.
Once I got to level 8, then you can start using a lute to increase the damage of the level 2 pbaoe. At this point, you can go swarm kite in north karana. Slight issue is being bound far away in Qeynos. I think it wouldn't be too hard to get someone to bind you at the Gypsy camp. You can swarm kite Willowisps until about 12. You can turn in the Lightstones and Greater Lightstones at the gypsy camp for platinum and experience. At 12 or 13, you can swarm kite all of the beetles. At level 15ish, you can head to OT to swarm kite until about 25. At 25, you can go swarm kite in Lake of Ill Omen until 29. You can do skeletons mainly since goblins can social agro. I grabbed goblins sometimes, usually when I was on my way back to my kite spot. You can kite near the Iksar newb area.
At level 29, you can start kiting in Firiona Vie. Easily, you can do at least 1 level per pull in FV. Kite the Drolvargs and pirates. Currently, I am level 43. I am somewhat taking it slow as I want to try and make some plat and get some basic resist gear down pat before I level a bit higher. My conjecture is I will probably see more pvp action once I get to around 45+. I haven't been killed by anyone and I haven't killed anyone. Someone tried to kill me one time while I was afk. I did level 42 to 43 on one pull in FV.
As far as gear and making plat, I find in FV I make about 70pp per pull. You will probably make some plat in OT from 15-25. Save all of your gems that you get in OT. The rest of the stuff you can vendor to the greedy iksar at the pond. But save your gems so you can get full price for them later on.
I haven't really seen a lot of pvp action. I avoid it for the most part because since my gear is trash, and all I really have to kill people is possibly charming something or my songs.
What you could do if you don't want to swarm kite is the usual Crushbone, Unrest, Mistmoore, City of Mist route. It is almost a 100% guarantee you will see pvp action if you go this route, judging by the kill messages I've seen while playing and the general talk in ooc.
Good luck. I made a friend luckily.

Good post. Speaking of bards, mine made 16 tonight :)

I just started here recently as well. I highly suggest speaking to a Thunderdome officer and joining the guild, they really try to keep the server healthy by helping new players have a great start.
It's sad that some people try to find out where Thunderdome is leveling and PK them.
Be careful what you say zone location wise in OOC (global) and GUILD (spies eyes) chat because you are possibly inviting people to come PK (player kill) you. Keep location messaging to tells and make sure said people are actually interested in joining, group exp is awesome!
One thing that sucks about this server is the lack of porters. For a new player to get ported it is extremely difficult because most porters usually get 50-100p for a port.

This will save you some frustration.
Create a macro with the first line being /loc
Put macro on hot bar. Bind it to your forward movement key.
Now, when u get ass-fucked by a fungi twink who has been trolling on Red for 5 years you will at least be able to recover your body.

Oh this is good to know. I'd not have thought of that ^^

Everything that's wrong with this server. People would rather disconnect then die, they will hug the zone line and dance across it anytime real pvp happens. You are forced to level in the same zones on every character because all the alternatives are abandoned.
After that you'll be raiding with the same players who have been running the show here for years, they will gear up multiple characters(because all of theirs are banned) while forcing you to play desired class and putting you on the backburners behind all their "goog friends".

It is sad but I think this is something I will have to face at some point. I am not that far level wise yet. My guess is I will probably just make an alt as I get closer to 60 because anything I would want to do is largely controlled by a few people, and the way things get done doesn't seem to be the prettiest.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but if you do not like kiting and want to become a fast running, slow damaging melee who grabs an occasional partner ... check out the making plat guide. The rabid wolf and rabid bear quests in QH give great plat for the level and also great experience--and a fast running bard is probably second to a tracking ranger in completing these quests. Gnoll teeth are stackable (as opposed to crushbone belts) with two options for turn in, and bandit sashes give experience and plat. The bandit hill camp is the most well known, but has a pesky brigand for early levels. There are at least four other concentrations of bandits in the zone, as well as raiders in NK, SK, and EW (watch out for the druid casters). You will level more slowly than AoE kiting, but it's an option for anyone who starts in Qeynos. Sometimes an empty zone is a good zone.
I moved back and forth from the Karanas to Fadwyer leveling up, sometimes grouping in MM dodging PKers, and sometimes soloing in the Karanas. Play how you want.

I think this is a good post. I leveled in Qeynos area until around 15 on my Bard, where I went to OT to swarm. (Also swarmed in NK from level 8)

Silver linings etc, soloing can make you play your class better. I solo'd my cleric for most of it and while its always easy to watch health bars and gauge when you need to heal, it's not so easy to think
"shit, that monk is a cunt and just brought 5 mobs into the camp... if I root 3 of them our down time won't be half as bad" (assuming no CC'er).
I've been soloing a bit on my bard, learning some good tricks that I don't think I would have done had I grouped up.

On pvp servers people always were aware of the risk they took when they went far away from zone line and chose to flee from losing battles. This will never change, it is a core game element. Root or harm touch to finish em off.
