Firestrike - http://wiki.project1999.com/Firestrike

~26p (iirc), 155 Mana for 302 Damage (1.95 Damage per Mana), 2.5 Recast

Calefaction - http://wiki.project1999.com/Calefaction

82p from FV only, 250 Mana for 450 Damage (1.8 Damage per Mana), 45.0 Recast

Trying to understand the point of Calefaction. It's less mana efficient, takes forever to recast and is super expensive.

Generally speaking higher level spells become more efficient. Is there something with this spell that I am missing? Or was it just one of many silly things about classic EQ?

2.5 second cast time on Calefaction
4.6 second cast time on Firestrike

This.

It's used to kill a mob fast mid gate cast, in a DPS battle where you need to put DPS another person or group for loot rights, or as a ranger in between melee rounds.

Mostly useful for a range but rarely it's worth loading on a druid

Kunark dragons don't live long enough for a druid even at mid 40's with a good mana pool to run out of mana without chain casting so tossing in a calefaction (or two if it recycles) significantly ups your DPS.

Ah good to know. For some reason I completely overlooked the cast time.
